Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters
Danger Room Uniform for Students
- Do Students have to wear school uniforms?
- Students don't have to wear school uniforms, but they do have battle uniforms that are standardized for Danger Room sessions. The uniforms are made of unstable molecules and offer basic armor equivalent to kevlar.
- How do students get to town or the city?
- There is a bus that runs past the Institute on Graymalkin Lane, but it only goes past three times a day. Once at 9am, once at 1pm and once at 6pm. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to get into New York City but only about 15 minutes to get to Salem Center. Jubilee has been known to roller blade down to Salem Center.
- Every student is there on some sort of program or scholarship and teachers receive some amount of pay. That means that everyone has money to spend. Students will have an allotted amount for miscellaneous things each quarter. Think like a college scholarship from the government. Not a whole crapload of money but enough that they can go shopping with everyone else and not feel left out. Even if your character was dirt poor before, he or she has a finite amount of money to spend now. We'll say $1,200 a quarter. Teachers and other staff (security and the like) make about $3,000 a month, paid by the accounts of the Institute itself, which is funded by Xavier and Warren's fortunes.
- Do the students stay year round?
- Students follow a standard school year, with the option of staying at the Institute or returning home during the summer months and the week of Christmas. The X-Men live at the mansion year round.
- How long have non canon characters had a chance to learn at Xavier's?
- When Xavier decided to rebuild the school, approximately March 2011, and serve as the X-Men's mentor once again, he opened the Institute to any mutant who needed help controlling their powers. There are more students now than there was before Xavier left.
