Compared to her twin brother, Annalise is a petite thing, coming to a mere 5’5” in height and blessed with a lithe, dainty figure with just enough feminine curve to catch and hold a man’s attention. More than her figure or petite stature, however, her face and eyes are the most startling part of her appearance. Her eyes, whether they seem bluer or greener, are always bright and intense, garnering her a great deal of attention from members of both sex. Her hair is long and pale blonde, falling past her shoulders in soft silky waves. Like her brother, Annalise prefers clothes she is most comfortable in, opting for sneakers and shorts and tanktops over heels and skirts, though she has on occasion dressed up and proven herself to be beautiful enough to turn heads when she walks in to a room.

Personality

Though strong and capable of being independent, Annalise is naturally submissive to the men in her life. As an extension of this, she’s become a skilled cook and enjoys throwing dinner parties and cookouts, providing food for everyone there. Though quiet, she’s a happy soul who enjoys life to the fullest, and carries her grief over the loss of her family in Africa deep within her, keeping most from ever knowing it’s there. Deep down, she desires to find someone who, if they cannot give her the type of life she had growing up around a Pride, can give her a stable and loving family life. She longs to see her brother find a mate (or three) and settle down to start his own pride, and hopes that one day her life will include many children, both her own and those of extended family. In spite of her submissive nature, she is an extremely protective type, and would do anything to protect those she cares for, most especially those she considers family.

History

Born the second of a pair of twins to a witch and a shifter in South Africa, Annalise and her twin brother Thomas grew up on a lion preserve owned by their mother, Elizabeth Crawford. With hunting of lions on the rise throughout the continent, Elizabeth used her family’s considerable wealth and influence to buy a huge portion of land where she could protect as many of the great cats as possible. During this time, two prides of lion shifters traveled to the preserve to seek safety after losing several of their number and seeing other prides completely wiped out by the hunting.

Elizabeth, moved by their plight, accepted them on to her land and vowed to protect them however she could manage. During this time, she met Amadi, a male among one of the prides. The two fell madly in love and while she took him as her familiar, she also gave him children. The twins grew up on the preserve, surrounded by their father’s family and culture. Very little of their mother’s English roots stayed with them aside from their fair coloring and names, and even as children, before anyone could be sure if the twins would be witches like their mother or shifters like their father, they were accepted by both cultures happily.

As they were growing up, Anna was far more interested than her brother in being a shifter. He hoped they’d get their mother’s witch blood, while Anna spent her days day dreaming of being able to live her life as a proud lioness among her father’s tribe. When they were fifteen, she got her wish, though it turned out to be far more painful than she ever imagined, and she and her brother clung to each other in fear and praying that the pain would end soon as their first shift came over them. It was clear after the pain faded, however, that her brother’s views on what they were had changed dramatically with the knowledge that magic would not be his future. As time went on, the two learned to shift without pain and took to roaming the wilderness of their preserve home, happily indulging in the land they knew so well and the creatures that roamed it.

When their father was shot, Annalise was so stunned at first that she barely reacted, but her brother’s fit of rage that send him crashing in to the hunters snapped her out of it and she followed, if only to protect him. She ripped the throat out of a hunter, and her brother mauled another while the rest of the pack finished the rest of the hunters off in quick succession. By the time their mother reached them after feeling the death of her familiar from several miles away, Anna and Thomas were sitting at their father’s side. Anna had his head in her lap and they were both sobbing uncontrollably.

Unable to bear the thought of losing her children, Elizabeth packed them up and put them on a boat to America, hoping that being so far away from the hunting would make them safe. She refused to send them to London where there was a risk and likelihood that they would end up slaves to vampires.

Since arriving in the US 40 years ago, the two have traveled a lot but recently have chosen to set down roots in California. Anna longs to return to her home, and hates that the only time she is able to see her mother is when she comes to the US, but she knows it is safer for them to stay there rather than risk the wilds of Africa and the now even more dangerous as it’s largely illegal hunting trades in Africa. Their mother refuses to move permanently to the US in spite of her children’s insistence that she do, saying she has to stay with the preserve and do what she can to protect and rehabilitate as many big cats as possible.
