A Little Deeper
Andersen’s mother was a wizard who died of cancer when Andersen was six. This led Andersen to being raised by his father (a muggle) and two of his aunts. Andersen had a fine childhood considering the sadness and trauma endured by the death of his mother. His father, a hard, passionate and competitive man tried to compensate for the loss of a female influence by treating Andersen less like a child and more like a man from an early age. The unusual lineage of his mother had been kept a secret from Andersen as well as Andersen’s mother until his fifteenth year when it was revealed by a wizard by the name of Nigel Ackersley the truth behind who Andersen truly is...or what he was, as it were. Andersen’s father would hear very little of it, disapproving of such nonsense and unwilling to hear much of anything regarding it. It took a year of discussions between Andersen’s father, Nigel Ackersley as well as a number of other wizards to convince Andersen’s father that Andersen was to be sent to Hogwarts. Perhaps Andersen’s father was tired of the debate? Perhaps it was some desire to better understand the secrets his wife had kept from them? In the end, the only stipulation was that if there was a team of some sort, Andersen was expected to try out for it. Andersen’s father was an avid rugby fan, and a skilled rugby player in his younger years. Those physical abilities had been passed onto his son although he was never rightly pleased that Andersen seemed to have a more gentle soul like his mother. Andersen was devastated after first year over having been denied any opportunity to be on the Quidditch team and be able to please his father. Heading into Hogwarts in his second year, he was hoping to show himself favourably and make the team, and turned otu to be successful at making the team. He took it seriously, training often and as the Keeper he was fully expecting to shoulder much of the responsibility of winning and losing.
Andersen had to leave shortly before the season started however upon receiving news that his father had taken ill. Andersen arrived back home to find his father in the late stages of cancer; something his father had been ignoring and keeping to himself for quite some time. It was late November when Andersen's father passed away.
Too old now to be considered an “orphan”, Andersen's remaining family are his two aunts, their husbands and their children. The life insurance that came from his father's passing paid off the remainder on their small house and was left in Andersen's name. There was some extra money left over, something of which Andersen is not in a rush to spend.
Even though he's not “alone” in the world, Andersen is having a difficult time reconciling that. He spends his days working out with his father's rugby team and looking after his two cousins. He's at a bit of a crossroads at the moment regarding whether or not he should bother with returning to Hogwarts or simply stay in the “muggle world”, a place he seems to feel more comfortable and welcome in.
