Personality
Alex is very friendly to just about anyone unless they give him a reason to feel they don't deserve his respect. He's quite flirty with the girls. In terms of morality, Alex seems to care more about justice than anything. He hates seeing something he considers unjust occur. In his eyes, staying in physical shape is just as important as staying in mental shape. |
A Little Deeper
About the Man: Alex is a pretty popular guy in his house. As a longstanding Beater for the Gryffindor Quiddich team, Alex is about as popular as you would expect an in shape, attractive jock to be in a school setting. He is usually seen with several of his Gryffindor friends, also from the Quiddich team. His friend, a senior last year (who has since graduated) named Dan Blackwood was the "leader" of Alex's little group. This year Dan is gone and Alex has taken the unofficial reigns of "leadership" of his group of friends. He is known for being a flirt and although the rumor is new, there is word going around that he's a bit of a player. Whether this is true or not is up in the air, but since most people tend to take rumors at face value... Still, he tends to turn a lot of girls' heads.
That said, he's known to have stood up to bullies from his own and other houses in a cool and collected manner that usually ends with little if any violence. Usually. He's known to enjoy dueling, having been in the dueling club since his first year at Hogwarts. His family, the Obergs are a pure blooded family from Norway... although it's fairly common knowledge that Alex is a half blood.
Rumors: At the beginning of last year Wren fell off her broom in the middle of a Quiddich match against Gryffindor and Alex threw the game to swoop down and save her life. That little escapade was big news at the time. The two started dating after that.
Then, it's known that later in the year the two had a huge breakup when she accused him of cheating on her and turned him into a pig. Then this year they seem to have reconciled but then Alex suddenly had to leave to go to America. No one really knows why he had to leave, but he has been gone since before October.
It's also known that while Alex is very adept at dueling spells, he is absolutely horrible at Transfiguration to the point of ineptitude in that subject. He has yet to master even the simplest Transfiguration spells.
History: Alex was born to Linda and Greg Oberg in Ballard, the Scandinavian sub community of Seattle in 1990. His mother was an American born woman of Norwegian descent and his father was a Norwegian born naturalized British citizen working in the US on a visa as a programmer for Microsoft. Alex lived a normal, healthy middle class life, spending summers in London until his tenth birthday. His grandfather from England was in town to visit for the event and he overheard he and his father talking about a letter to arrive for him the next year, and how he needed to be a citizen of Britain in order to be accepted. Alex spoke nothing of what he heard, but was not surprised when the next week they packed their life up and moved to London.
The next year was pretty mundane, and he grew accustomed to living in his new home. He was taken aside when his parents were away near the end of summer by his grandfather, who asked him a very strange question. Did he believe in magic? Alex didn't know what to say, so he just nodded. His grandfather proceeded to tell him of the family secret. That he and many in his family before him had been witches and wizards. The whole night he regaled him with tales of magic and fantastic creatures. Suffice to say, when his letter came, he was very excited about it.
He schooled for years until he was ready for Hogwarts. He was determined that he would be one of the best wizards out there, despite the unlikelihood of such with so much competition. When he was 14 he started his regimen of exercise and fitness with a group of muggle friends and hasn't given it up to this day. His letter from Hogwarts was one of the proudest moments in his life and a memory he will always treasure. He was an above average student and excellent Quiddich player, playing as a Beater for his house's team. Now as he nears graduation, he's set his sights on the possibility of working for the school in some fashion. Hogwarts has become his home, after all.
Worst Memories: When he was 8, he nearly drowned while swimming in a lake. To this day he swears something was trying to pull him under and deep water gives him the chills.
Best Memory: His first kiss. Julie Fall at age 15. Every first kiss should be like that. His time spent with Wren Bellamy.
