The morning dawned bright and clear. Diana felt like singing. It was her eighteenth birthday, and her parents were allowing her to have the day for all of her favorite activities. She was going to spend the morning riding in the woods and enjoy a picnic lunch and book on the grassy knoll she had found a few years earlier. When she got back to the manor, she would rest and get ready for a party her parents were throwing for her. Oh, it was so exciting!!
Giddy with pleasure, Diana spun in her room. Her auburn hair glowed in the sunlight as she threw open the shutters, her sapphire blue eyes rivaling the color of the sky. She pulled on one of her best dresses, a deep blue riding gown that she covered with a soft gray cloak. Like always, she didn't bother trying to fix her hair--the wild curls touched her shoulders and defiantly broke free of any attempt at restraint.
"Mama! Mama! Can I go now?" It was the one day she had free from her chores, and she couldn't wait to get started!
