Quote from: oldedog on August 07, 2025, 05:41:23 AMIt would definitely be interesting. We have zero druids submitted at the moment.

@Ian Temero for 500gp, it wouldn't be so much a house as it would be a tent use a nice view. Real estate in Waterdeep is definitely not cheap. Sorry, the puppy dog eyes didn't work.
Don't worry Ian just wait for the next dragon attack and buy a plot as part of their urban renewal initiative. Water deep city planners probably employ a dragon on the quiet.

"Now.. we don't like this access to the Haymarket. Send the word to your kin that the next time they attack, they have to burn through the city from here to here. They will of course be adequately compensated."

Marie Reynolds

Quote from: Armphid on August 06, 2025, 09:55:09 PMShe probably does some smithing to keep her hand in, and also reading/studying is her biggest hobby.  But I did make up a bakery/cafe where the spends time studying.  It's called Drake Of Cakes and it's run by the Doughlifter family of gnomes.  They're famous for their dragon shaped creampuffs!  They could have bumped into each other there, maybe had to share a table, got to talking and struck up an unlikely friendship!

Rowan and Gwyn meeting at the Drake of cakes striking up and unlikely friendship sounds great! I enjoy it when my characters also have met others through casual means! I could totally see Rowan just letting Gwyn talk about her studies  while she enjoyed a pastry maybe asking some questions. She has slightly above intelligence so she might grasp somethings but likely the majority of it would go over her head. As she has no academic skills. Though probably after the finish their pastries she would likely offer to Gwyn to go for walk even if it is just to accompany her to her next destination in town or go do some shopping or something. I would like to think  they have fairly regular meetups with their schedules permitting of course.

Quote from: Ian Temero on August 06, 2025, 11:34:43 PMAn interesting idea, but in all actuality Fiona would probably not like Rowan. The girl grew up in a happy, fairly well off family, spent her childhood in school, made friends she can truly trust, has deep faith in a god, has mentors that nurture her talents and care for her, and is able to pursue both careers that she's always wanted. Sure there was the kidnapping incident, but even that was easily resolved and opened the way to the life of her dreams. Rowan has had a relatively easy life, having everything she's ever needed either handed to her or clearly laid out within her reach.

The exact opposite life that Fiona has lived. In Fiona's eyes the easy, lucky, and relatively care free life that Rowan has lived would be a constant reminder to Fiona of how unfair her own life was. And while she might not directly despise Rowan, there would still be enough resentment towards what she represented in Fiona's life that the thief just wouldn't be able to like her.

... And I think this is fine actually. Not everyone needs to be connected and not every connection needs to be a positive one, just as long as there are enough shared connections for them to be part of the same group

I appreciate you taking the time to respond Ian, would like to thank you for doing so! I completely understand that not everyone needs to be connected. I just made the list  to include everyone cause I did not want to come across like I was disregarding their character submission. Have a lovely Tabaxi spores druid.. but maybe a wildfire would fit the game dynamic better. A total party animal.

Features, Traits, and Racial Abilities
Racial traits:
Ability Score IncreaseBR, pg. 23
Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Keen SensesBR, pg. 23
You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Fey AncestryBR, pg. 23
You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

TranceBR, pg. 23
Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Ability Score IncreaseBR, pg. 23
Choose an ability score to increase by 1, instead of the previously granted charisma score increase.

If you gain more than one increase, you can’t apply those increases to the same ability score, and you can’t increase a score above 20.
QuoteWisdom Score

Superior DarkvisionPHB, pg. 24
You can see in darkness (shades of gray) up to 120 ft.

Sunlight SensitivityPHB, pg. 24
You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.

Drow MagicPHB, pg. 24
You know the dancing lights cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the faerie fire spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the darkness spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
QuoteDancing Lights © (Cantrip)[/i]
Faerie Fire © (1st) / Long Rest[/i]

Drow Weapon TrainingPHB, pg. 24
You have proficiency with rapiers, shortswords, and hand crossbows.

Background features:
Acolyte
Feature: Shelter of the Faithful
As an acolyte, you command the respect of those who share your faith, and you can perform the religious ceremonies of your deity. You and your adventuring companions can expect to receive free healing and care at a temple, shrine, or other established presence of your faith, though you must provide any material components needed for spells. Those who share your religion will support you (but only you) at a modest lifestyle.

You might also have ties to a specific temple dedicated to your chosen deity or pantheon, and you have a residence there. This could be the temple where you used to serve, if you remain on good terms with it, or a temple where you have found a new home. While near your temple, you can call upon the priests for assistance, provided the assistance you ask for is not hazardous and you remain in good standing with your temple.

Class features:
Deft ExplorerTCoE, pg. 56

Hit Points at 1st Level: 10 + your Constitution modifier

Favored EnemyBR, pg. 91
Beginning at 1st level, you have significant experience studying, tracking, hunting, and even talking to a certain type of enemy.

Choose a type of favored enemy: aberrations, beasts, celestials, constructs, dragons, elementals, fey, fiends, giants, monstrosities, oozes, plants, or undead. Alternatively, you can select two races of humanoid (such as gnolls and orcs) as favored enemies.

You have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to track your favored enemies, as well as on Intelligence checks to recall information about them.

When you gain this feature, you also learn one language of your choice that is spoken by your favored enemies, if they speak one at all.

You choose one additional favored enemy, as well as an associated language, at 6th and 14th level. As you gain levels, your choices should reflect the types of monsters you have encountered on your adventures.
QuoteHumanoids
Humanoids are the main peoples of the world, both civilized and savage, including humans and a tremendous variety of other species.
Humans
Elves
Undercommon

Spellcasting FocusTCoE, pg. 57

You can cast known ranger spells using WIS as your spellcasting modifier (Spell DC 14, Spell Attack +6).

Ranger ArchetypePHB, pg. 92
QuoteGloom Stalker

Primeval AwarenessPHB, pg. 92
As an action, you can expend one ranger spell slot (1 minute per level of spell slot) to sense whether any aberrations, celestials, dragons, elementals, fey, fiends, or undead are present within 1 mile of you (or within up to 6 miles if you are in your favored terrain). This feature doesn’t reveal the creatures’ location or number.
QuotePrimeval Awareness: 1 Action

Gloom Stalker MagicXGtE, pg. 42
You learn additional spells based on your level that count as ranger spells but don't count against the number of spells you know.
QuoteDisguise Self(1st)

Dread AmbusherXGtE, pg. 42
At 3rd level, you master the art of the ambush. You can give yourself a bonus to your initiative rolls equal to your Wisdom modifier.

At the start of your first turn of each combat, your walking speed increases by 10 feet, which lasts until the end of that turn. If you take the Attack action on that turn, you can make one additional weapon attack as part of that action. If that attack hits, the target takes an extra 1d8 damage of the weapon’s damage type.
QuoteDread Ambusher: (No Action)

Umbral SightXGtE, pg. 42
At 3rd level, you gain darkvision out to a range of 60 feet. If you already have darkvision from your race, its range increases by 30 feet.

You are also adept at evading creatures that rely on darkvision. While in darkness, you are invisible to any creature that relies on darkvision to see you in that darkness.

Personality & Background
Personality Traits: I've spent so long in the Underdark that I have little practical experience dealing with people in the outside world.
Ideals: Freedom. Chains are meant to be broken, as are those who would forge them.
Bonds: I will do anything to protect the temple where I served.
Flaws: I am too ignorant of some parts of the world, which means I tend to trust the wrong person. I have a hard time saying no.
Backstory:
Se'rae was left at the Promenade of the Dark Maiden when she was just an infant. No one knew who her parents were or where she had come from. She was taken in and raised by the priestesses. While she was taught about Eilistraee, she was never destined to be a priestess herself, and even less so a chosen. Instead, Se’rae was taught about tracking, stealth, and how to survive in the Underdark.

As she grew older, she was sent out on missions by the temple. Oftentimes, it had something to do with either tracking something or someone. But it could also be that adventuring parties and merchants needed a guide while traveling in the Underdark.

She also helped the Temple in its battles against Slavers — mainly human and Drow. This means that she has been to places like Skullport.

Eventually, the Temple thought it would be a good idea to take a few years (since elves have so many of them) to explore the wider world. So Se’rae decided to take a mission to lead an adventuring party to the surface — and stay there.

She found herself in Waterdeep, in something that is pretty much a whole new world for her.

Connections:  (Shared with NPC or other characters)
Ons and offs: See my O/O’s. But otherwise:
On: Rough sex, hair pulling, spanking, non/dub-con, big breasts.
Off: Scat, Urination, Blood (during sex that is), mind control, orgasm denial

GM Only. No peeking.

Desire:  Probably secret desire to get taken advantage off by others. Maybe even get to know how it is to be a pleasure slave.
Hooks for GM to use:  She probably has old Slaver enemies.

You can always find a place to perform, usually in an inn or tavern but possibly with a circus, at a theater, or even in a noble's court. At such a place, you receive free lodging and food of a modest or comfortable standard (depending on the quality of the establishment), as long as you perform each night. Personality & Background
Personality Traits: A hopeless romantic in search of a special someone, though she can't quite recall if that's someone she's already met or someone she's yet to find.
Empathetic to others but somewhat ditzy and lacks the intelligence to offer genuine advice.
Enjoys making music with stringed instruments but finds this difficult to do with bare hands not being able to pluck them properly

Ideals: People. I like seeing the smiles on people's faces when I perform. That's all that matters.

Bonds: My instrument is my most treasured possession, and it reminds me of someone I love

Flaws: I'm a sucker for a pretty face.

Backstory:  Tiramai died a little over five years ago. Prior to this she was a bard in a travelling troupe known in certain circles as an accomplished healer through primal magic channelled through her music. During a trip from Neverwinter to Waterdeep the troupe's caravan was assaulted by a pair of hill giants. While she focused on healing the wounded she became a target for their assailants.

With their healer gone the troupe had little choice but to request their pyrotechnics and special effects wizard to attempt to preserve Tira's body until they reached the city. Upon visiting a house of healing and using the troupe's funds for a resurrection spell to be cast the thaumaturgical admixture with the wizard's preservation enchantment caused her to come back wrong, her flesh and organs becoming an ooze - her bones joining them over the next year or two.

Initially Tiramai rejected her new form, doing as much as she could to raise funds to find a way to reverse her condition. As time marches forward however she seemed to accept it, not seeming to mind looking in a mirror anymore, while her friends noticed that she was becoming a lot less quick witted than she had once been. As of today she's still performing though no longer with her troupe and collecting funds, though she doesn't seem to quite recall why

Connections:  while in Waterdeep she stays in Fantasmic Fireworks, the store owned by the pyrotechnics wizard who cast the preservation ritual on her

Ons and offs
On: Dub/Non-con, male, futa, female, larger partners, size-play, gang-bang, humans, monsters, beasts, pet play, transformation, cuddling

Off: Blood play, scat, filth

GM Only. No peeking.
Desire:  From sexual gratification to entertaining others, a desire to feel connections to other people and sensations of the flesh

Hooks for GM to use:  There's a possibility that a rival musician pointed the hill giants that assaulted the troupe's caravan their way

Flip, messed up on the second roll when I forgot to put in the user ID - Ah well, got one good stat without it so it's not too bad

Does Sin have any hobbies for favorite places she frequents that  Rowan and Sin could meet up and get to know each other. If you  have any shenanigan's that the pair could get into and bond over?

woops. forgot I hadn't replied to this.

While Sin certainly doesn't mind watching athletic competitions she's not very good at them herself. Being tougher more then strong coupled with her being 'short' and unbalanced means her attempts usually wind up as failures. :D

She has a sweet tooth and parties hard but spends a decent amount of her free time playing amature investigator, which she's bad at. Despite training as a 'wise woman' wisdom is her dump stat so her investigations are usually failures or long drawn out events.

If Sin has a sweet tooth, maybe she could have met up with Rowen and Gwyn at Drake of Cakes?  Not to stick my nose in, but it could serve as a way to create a connection there between the three of them.

I know that's planning ahead given that we don't know who the final party will be at this point.

Guess I wasn't as done as I thought, forgot ons/offs and actually typing the backstory out. Whoops...

Also, there are so many characters being submitted where their backstories end with "they end up in Waterdeep", but nothing on what they're doing while there. Makes it hard for a guy to think up possible connections with their own city native character! :'(
(Mostly teasing here)

Quote from: oldedog on August 07, 2025, 05:41:23 AM@Ian Temero for 500gp, it wouldn't be so much a house as it would be a tent use a nice view. Real estate in Waterdeep is definitely not cheap. Sorry, the puppy dog eyes didn't work.

Yeah I figured. Most of the sites I've looked at suggest that a 3 bedroom home would cost 1,000 gp. Was still worth a shot.

Oof. Guess my response did seem a little preachy, didn't it. I wasn't trying to tell you to be okay was none positive connections, I was really just putting my feelings on it out there. That's all.

As for the event... hm... I don't hate it but I feel like Fiona's role in it all might be a little different. Here's what I'm thinking...

It would have happened a few years back when Fiona was still with her mentor. Dex was hired to help with a kidnapping and he brought Fiona along to cause a distraction and keep a lookout. The kidnapping was pulled off without a hitch, but just as they were about to escape some idiot girl (Rowan-cough-cough) tried to play the hero and got herself captured too. Fiona tried to ignore her conflicted feelings on the job, not really being a fan of kidnapping, but when she overheard the others discussing whether to just kill the extra girl or sell her to slavers Fiona's conscious won out and she "accidently" gave Rowan an opportunity to escape. They probably never crossed paths again after that, both living very different life styles, but they remembered the incident well enough to recognize each other when did/do meet again.

Anyway, that's my thoughts. How do you feel about it?
(Also, a lot of athletes being kidnapped huh?)

oldedog

Okay everyone, I'm going to close the recruiting thread on Monday morning so that anyone else who wishes to post a character has the weekend to get their characters submitted. Please let me know if your character is finished if you haven't done so already. If you know anyone that would possibly enjoy the game, pass this info along.

It's gonna be tough narrowing the character list down to just four characters, there are so many good choices.

Well Kidnapping is the closet term I could think of  but more like a rash of Tying up promising athletes and keeping them from competing the Kidnappers favored Athlete could win. Though some instances would be to offer their freedom in exchange for taking falls when the Kidnappers needed it. Lol. Besides I enjoy snoops or  well meaning folk who on their own don't  have all the skills necessary to be quite successful at it and have some misadventures that  stumble along the way but with a little bit of  bravery determination and luck come out on top. I swear I did not make Rowan a Lay follower of Tymora to play the hapless snoop with bravery some skill and  luck on her side. lol!

Armphid and Hexed:

Well I can think of a melding of Ideas here.

I have a love of Amateur Snoops getting into trouble its was of the  things I was hoping to explore with people with Rowan. So I would love for the two of them to get up to some snooping and have to squirm their way out of a tight spots together. Maybe Sin came up to ask Rowan about some rumors about something she was investigating and Rowan having pretty good insight but no investigations herself, So she figured you  poking around looking into something and she volunteered to help. Would absolutely love it if it got them tied up Maybe with  Pair working together they get loose and overcome them after the setback or the pair are left stashed and tied up out of the way while they escape.

Then after reporting or turning in those people to the city watch. She invites you to come and join here at the Drake of cakes, Fading or fresh rope marks and all on the both of them you get introduced to Gwyn. To either celebrate or console themselves with sweet delicious pastries. We regale Gwyn about our Misadventure. How does that sound to the both of you?

Quote from: Ian Temero on August 08, 2025, 02:56:54 AMGuess I wasn't as done as I thought, forgot ons/offs and actually typing the backstory out. Whoops...

Also, there are so many characters being submitted where their backstories end with "they end up in Waterdeep", but nothing on what they're doing while there. Makes it hard for a guy to think up possible connections with their own city native character! :'(
(Mostly teasing here)

Ian Temero:

I did not think it came of as preachy at all. It just seemed you had some concerns about my expectations and I wanted to allay you of them to not make you feel pressured into a connections with Rowan that is all.

I like that Idea a lot that  Fiona helped Rowan and the other athlete escape! She probably has a good enough Insight that she caught on to what Fiona was up to. Ever since that day she hoped to run into her again. Probably tried to  find any rumors of Fiona but not being  skilled at Investigation it all ended up in dead ends. Cause she wanted to repay you somehow though she really did not know how.

This is a suggestion for how they might Reunite. Let me know if you would be okay with this?
I was thinking maybe before the game started they met up  by sheer accident or luck  on Lliira's Night. Here is a link if you want to know more about the festival: https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Lliira%27s_Night. After thanking you for helping her out offers to take you around the festival share some food and good times as repayment  for your help.  We can see where things develop between the to of them after that.

Quote from: oldedog on August 08, 2025, 06:45:24 AMOkay everyone, I'm going to close the recruiting thread on Monday morning so that anyone else who wishes to post a character has the weekend to get their characters submitted. Please let me know if your character is finished if you haven't done so already. If you know anyone that would possibly enjoy the game, pass this info along.

It's gonna be tough narrowing the character list down to just four characters, there are so many good choices.

Yay! Good luck on the Selections Oldedog! Good luck to everyone  in getting Selected!

Just a little bump to the thread to remind people that I'll be closing recruiting tomorrow if anyone has any last minute characters they want to submit.

Nope. I think I am finished and exited for the selection. I left off making connections until I know if I am in the game or not as there will be several 'potential connections' that amount to nothing...

Anyway, good luck to everyone!

Backstory:

Dear Diary,

Today my friends came to me with the strangest of proposals. They want me to accompany them somewhere in the city tonight, but will not say where. I think I know the reason for this—they want to surprise me!

I believe all of my proselytizing must have finally broken through! It cannot be a coincidence that this surprise comes so close to the solstice, one of the most holy times of the year. My friends must mean to join me in prayer. It sounds like such a lovely and thoughtful way to spend an evening. They're such good friends! I thank Lathander every day for sending them to me.

I have said yes and did my best not to let them know that I'm aware of their scheme. It was difficult to deceive my friends in such a manner, but I did not want to ruin their big moment. I will have to pray extra hard for Lathander's forgiveness when we visit the temple tonight.

That is all for now. I will let you know how our evening goes. I'm so excited to share the glory of Lathander with my friends!

Walk always in the light,

Lyssette

Connections:

Father Arnhold (Male Human, 58)- Father Arnhold is a priest of Lathander who tended to Lyssette's mother when she passed and left the young Lyssette alone. Unable to hunt down a father, Father Arnhold took the orphaned Lyssette into the temple. It was from him that Lyssette received her education and learned just how rewarding service to Lathander could be. He's the closest thing that Lyssette has to a parent and he has essentially raised her with a little help from the temple priestesses when it came to navigating growing up as a woman.

Dorothea Dalran (Female Human, Deceased)- Lyssette's mother. Dorothea passed away when she was in her early twenties and Lyssette was but an infant. Lyssette has always been told that her mother passed from an illness, but that was a falsehood to shield her from the truth. The real story involved Dorothea visiting the temple late at night, covered in sweat and sporting a nasty, blackened wound on one side just below the ribs. The priests did what they could for several days, but the wound resisted all attempts to treat it. Whatever had caused her wound was beyond their powers to mend, and Dorothea eventually succumbed to it.

The manner of death led investigators to believe that this was a targeted attack, but when they looked into Dorothea's past, they found only a simple woman who led the unassuming life of a seamstress. Even after interviewing her closest friends, the identity of Lyssette's father never surfaced. The trail eventually went cold, and the murder went unsolved. Rumors abounded about this tragic event being an act of revenge against a Masked Lord that had taken a shining to Dorothea.

Ons and offs: Lyssette would be pretty vanilla in her desires. I generally roll with whatever comes along, but prefer masculine partners, which I felt I should mention with all of the PCs being women. :P

I'd rather not write NC content or anything that'd probably fall solely under the Extreme category.

GM Only. No peeking.
Desire: Charity and helping those in need.  :-)

Hooks for GM to use: Go nuts with the situation surrounding the mysterious murder of Lyssette's mother. The rumor that floated around town was that it was meant as an attack against a Lord of Waterdeep who would presumably be Lyssette's father. There could be plenty of other explanations though, especially given Lyssette's ancestry—a sort of 'chosen one' storyline comes to mind.

oldedog

@Hatless Wow, I was beginning to think that no one would be playing a cleric.

Another great character to add to the list. It's gonna be really tough to narrow it down to a small team of adventurers.

Quote from: Armphid on August 07, 2025, 10:08:42 PMIf Sin has a sweet tooth, maybe she could have met up with Rowen and Gwyn at Drake of Cakes?  Not to stick my nose in, but it could serve as a way to create a connection there between the three of them.

I know that's planning ahead given that we don't know who the final party will be at this point.
Firm plans do need to wait but it doesn't hurt to ponder. And I can say she'd certainly be interested in the dragonshaped creampuffs. :D

Quote from: Marie Reynolds on August 08, 2025, 07:27:43 AMWell Kidnapping is the closet term I could think of  but more like a rash of Tying up promising athletes and keeping them from competing the Kidnappers favored Athlete could win.

I'll be honest Sin is less amateur snoop and more bad enough at tracking that she tends to just stick her nose into anything she can even find hoping it'll lead to the right cult.  She's also got bad enough luck that she'd duck into a cave to stay out of the rain and find a group of kobolds setting traps. :D

That said she'd certainly have things to look into at times or be quite willing to help others with their own searches. And getting tied up and in trouble certainly sounds fun. :D

And I think Sin's done. Should she be chosen things can be fleshed out depending on the others in the team but she's certainly willing to toss herself into a night of fun.

Marie Reynolds

@Hexed  Sounds good to me. Makes sense to wait to make anything solid but still better to have some Ideas and connections ready  to go  when the selections for  the players for this game have been made. Glad to hear you like the idea of getting tied up and into trouble.

@Hatless yay Clerics. Nice pic of  a Sophita Cosplay for a Cleric of Lathander. Lysette is adorable.

I'd been planning to finish my submission with Tiramai over the weekend but time seems to have slipped away from me. Good luck to all who applied

You still have time. I haven't set an exact time on Monday that recruiting will close, it'll probably be late Monday once work is done.
