Yeah, I totally agree. I mean, people who had been supporting the 5e wouldn't have been able to support the D&Done, and there would have probably been a PathFinder analogue to keep 5e alive...but it wouldn't have been industry-wide.
I suspect they simply wanted to prevent another publisher from keeping 5e alive.
