TheBlackThrone

I used to be an average girl. I went to school; I was invisible among my peers; and I watched my high school crush hook up with almost every girl but me. I wasn’t too popular in high school, but I was smart enough to get accepted into college. In college, I watched Miss Prom Queen become Queen of the Trailer Park and addicted to crack. I guess she wasn’t that great after all.

But you’re not here to hear me talk about my mundane life. I will admit that I was trying to avoid talking about this. It is very difficult for me to share this with anyone who doesn’t know about it. You’re going to think that I’m crazy. Are you ready? Don’t judge me.

I have magic powers.

I wasn’t born with magic powers. I didn’t get exposed to some toxic chemicals or radiation. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time…or…maybe it was the right time. I don’t know if I could continue to live my life not knowing that there are things out there. I just wish I didn’t have to do anything about it. Sometimes I wish that I could have just been that normal girl. But there are others like me. It seems to only happen to girls.

We keep our powers a secret from everyone else, but there are some girls who aren’t always good. I just want the world to be normal again.

Synopsis

Magik is a modern fantasy magical girl role play. The story is mostly sandbox and has Lovecraft elements, particularly, the spontaneous emergence of women becoming magical girls and the monsters that have mysteriously appeared. Not all women become magical girls. The female characters created in this game will be the only magical girls unless NPC magical girls are created by the GM for plot purposes. Female characters who have not yet become magical girls are free to be roleplayed as well.

This game will have slice of life themes. The main setting is going to be at the college ALL of the magical girls attend: Charlottesville University, taking place in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The female characters are the main characters in this story. NPC non-magical girl females or any male characters in this game will be supporting characters. This game is meant to be a tribute to women and therefore, starts in Women's History Month. This is not a smut-driven game. This is a story-driven game. Anime pictures will not be used in this game. Only photography and digital art to showcase any transformation appearances are permitted.

Magical girls will try to keep their identities a secret from family, friends, and lovers in order to protect them from their risky and dangerous lives. However, through story-created circumstances, which could naturally happen in game, this may not always be the case. As you read this introduction, more information about how magical girls become magical girls and how they are identified by other magical girls will be explained in this RP.

Because this is a sandbox game, writers are free to plot with other writers. It is highly encouraged. Please share any story ideas with the GM. What I will be mainly doing is making sure nothing too over-the-top or flow-destroying gets into this game. Some writers can get main character syndrome where they will want this major character arch to happen for their character at the expense of others. It's not happening. Bring your ideas and creativity to this game. Please do. And when in doubt just ask the GM.

Support characters can have interesting stories that introduce them to the plot, such as they may have been a victim of a Creeper and were freed by a magical girl. However, all support characters must have a connection with a magical girl in this story. They must be a friend, frenemy, boyfriend, girlfriend, crush, bully, relative, etc. There must be a connection. I will allow the previously mentioned "just some person cured by a magical girl" but you must plot with that writer whose magical girl saved your character. There will be no random support characters in this game who aren't "supporting" anyone.

This game will be posted in the NC: Human Freeform Small Groups section.

Magical Girls
A magical girl is created by an unknown phenomenon. There are dimensional beasts in this story called “Creepers” that enter the human realm. The Creepers radiate a dark aura that will influence negative behavior in a human being. When a Creeper is in proximity of a human girl, its dark aura will either corrupt the girl, leading her to commit crimes against humanity, or her strong will will manifest. The “strong will” is often called a Platinum Heart. In the moment the platinum heart manifests, a girl becomes a magical girl. A random symbol appears somewhere on her body, and the Creeper becomes visible.

Only magical girls can see Creepers, and they can identify other magical girls by their unique symbols. The symbols are relevant to that magical girl’s theme. Every magical girl has one theme and that theme relates to their powers. For example, a magical girl who has ice as her theme will have powers related to ice. She may transform into a magical girl with platinum hair, blue eyes, snow-white skin, and her outfit somehow go along with that theme. Magical girls are only allowed one theme and it doesn’t have to be related to the elements. Themes example: Strength, Love, Stars, etc. Magical girls also start with 1 magical attack, magical defense, or magical utility move (one not all three). They can learn more magic spells as they learn more about their powers, fight Creepers, and train with other magical girls in game. Advancement must be achieved in game. The GM will confirm a magical girl’s advancement request.

Just to recap, your magical girl will have a theme, a symbol, a transformation, an outfit, a weapon (or their fists/feet), and magical powers.

Magical girls may develop spells that imbue support characters with powers if they so wish.

Natural powers all magical girls have from the get-go: leap one story, slow fall, and absorb an inhuman level of damage (example, survive great falls, being thrown into buildings, hit by cars, anything that would instantly kill an average human will not kill a magical girl immediately). This durability helps magical girls survive fights with Creepers and can only be further enhanced with magical spells.

Creepers

The Creepers are categorized by levels. The magical girls have developed this categorization to identify them by power. A Creeper can’t always be immediately categorized based on their appearance. Even a small Creeper could be powerful. These classifications are given to a Creeper as soon as it demonstrates its power. From least to greatest, the Creepers are categorized below:

Category 1 – also known as “CAT 1 or Level One.” These Creepers are the weakest. They are mostly harmless and can be seen sitting on a victim’s shoulder or clinging to a victim’s leg. Sometimes, they hide in a victim’s clothing so they can’t be discovered by magical girls or higher-level Creepers who would want to consume them. Level Ones are often a snack to higher level Creepers. A Level One usually puts a person in a foul mood without any reasoning to explain why a person is in such a mood. They cause that person “bad luck.” They may cause a person to leave their driver’s license at home, forget to cut the lights off on their car, drop and break their cellphone, etc. Level One Creepers feed off a victim’s misery. A magical girl can usually dispose of a Level One without needing to transform. Level One Creepers can become a higher-level threat if there are too many clinging to one person. Level One Creepers will flock to easy food once another Creeper has identified a vulnerable victim. There could be more than one CAT 1 on a victim and their combined influence could raise their overall threat to a higher level. Multiple CAT 1s on a person can lead the victim to commit suicide, become an active shooter, or a lone wolf terrorist. CAT 1s may be a bigger threat than higher levels because they’re small and only cause chaos overtime. By the time one is identified, usually it is too late, and a person is already committing a crime against humanity.

Category 2 – “CAT 2 or Level Two.” These Creepers infect animals. They are usually quadrupedal so they can keep up with their prey. CAT 2s cause a dog in the neighborhood to escape and attack people. They can even help animals at the zoo break out to terrorize the zoo, town, or city they’re in. They can infect swarms. They can cause animals in the wild to attack hikers. Multiple CAT 2s on one beast will cause the beast to transform into a monster or Urban Legend. Once they transform into a monster, their combined CAT levels can raise them to a higher level.

Category 3 – “CAT 3 or Level Three.” These Creepers are often humanoid in appearance. They hide inside the bodies of their victim, stretching and molding into the shape of their host. These hidden threats are the most dangerous despite there being two more categories above them. These Creepers often have humans categorized as sociopaths or psychopaths. They blend into society and commit heinous acts in secret. They are the serial killers, rapists, abusers, and crime lords/ladies. They are the hardest to detect because CAT 3s target humans who welcome them. Their victims often have a mutual desire to commit evil. Magical girls often find it difficult to discern whether a human is just being evil, or they are possessed by a CAT 3. As long as the CAT 3 remains hidden within the victim, they cannot be detected. Its host must confess its existence. Victims of a CAT 3 all report hearing voices that aren’t their own. CAT 3s do not share their host with other CAT 3s. They are selfish and there is often no room to share. It is very rare for a CAT 3 to share a host, but that doesn’t mean it won’t ever happen. So far in the game, this phenomenon has yet to be seen.

Category 4 – “CAT 4 or Level Four.” These Creepers are walking natural disasters. Invisible to the human eye, they cause tornados, hurricanes, lightning storms, typhoons, monsoons, etc. These Creepers actively try to destroy as many humans and property as they can before they are defeated by magical girls. A CAT 4 requires 3 or more magical girls to defeat. They cannot be stopped by one. When a CAT 4 is present, often other CATs are present as well. CAT 4 is the greatest threat due to them aggregating other CATs into violence with their chaos. These Creepers are often colossal monsters.

Category 5 – “CAT 5 or Level Five.” A CAT 5 has only ever been seen in the dreams of magical girls. It is truly a nightmare that exists in the dimension of the Creepers. No one knows when such a Lovecraftian horror will cross over into the human realm, but when it does, they will all need to be ready. Can they even stop it?

Character Sheet

Name: First Name, Last Name at least.
Alias: If your character has a magical girl name. If you can’t think of one, then leave this blank. Like a super hero alias, your character gives this name to other magical girls or people in order to protect your character’s true name. Understand, a magical girl may still be able to recognize your character in game if your character’s symbol is visible in the transformation or human form. (Support characters disregard this section.)
Age: 18+
Height: Not transformed height.
Weight: Not transformed weight.
Hair Color: Not transformed hair color.
Eye Color: Not transformed eye color.
Sexuality:
Basic Description: A description of your character’s overall appearance not transformed. If you are a support character, then a basic description of your support character. This section includes any jewelry, tattoos, scars, etc. They may have.
Face Claim: If you know the FC, then write it here. If you don’t know the FC, then just write “Unknown.” I understand how hard FCs can be to find. They are not a requirement.

Personal Life

Personality: General personality. Must be a believable one.
Likes: Not sexual.
Dislikes: Not sexual.
Background: How was their life like before they were a magical girl? How is their life now as a magical girl? How did they become a magical girl? If your character isn’t a magical girl yet, then this is their current life. If your character is a supporting character, how are they connected to a magical girl? What happened?
Major: What degree are they currently pursuing in college?
Clubs: This can also be sports. They don’t have to be on college teams but could play these sports recreationally. They could go to a dojo off-campus and train. You can also place Gyms here. However, I would prefer characters go to the same gym for interaction purposes.
Sexual Ons:
Sexual Offs:

Magik (This section is only for magical girls or magical girls-to be)

Theme:
Magik Symbol: You can describe it here or use a picture to represent it.
Magik Symbol Placement: Where is it on your character’s body?
Magik Transformation: You can describe how your character transforms into a magical girl here so you don’t have to write it out in game. I you want to use a YouTube animated reference from a show, you can post a link to it here as well.
Magik Appearance: Your magical girl outfit can have whatever appearance you want. Even if it barely covers your girl’s body, it’ll work just like armor. It can be armor, cloth, etc. It will be whatever you deem it to be. It just needs to go along with your character’s theme. You must describe it here. You need to describe if your character’s height, weight, hair length, hair color, eye color (to include pupil shape) etc. Anything that transforms must be detailed here so we know what she looks like. You can also use pictures.
Magik Weapon: Each character only gets one weapon. It can be from medieval times to guns. Dual weapons are counted as one weapon such as twin swords, daggers, sword and shield, pistols, etc. The weapon can be as large and as heavy-looking as you want. It is a magical weapon. It doesn’t have to make sense. It can even be an object not normally used as a weapon. Example: yo-yo, skateboard, motorcycle, maestro baton, etc.
Magik Spells:
You start with one spell. This spell does “one” thing. Not multiple things in one. One thing. This spell must either be offensive, defensive, or utility. A utility spell would be like maybe heals somebody, teleports someone, grants your character wings to fly, allows them to see a great distance, etc. Unless you are planning your magical girl to be mainly a support-type, then you may want to ensure your magical girl has spells to defend herself or others starting out.

Q&A

This will be where questions and answers go as people ask them during recruitment. Only questions not answered in the introduction will go here.

Rules

1. Respect. You do not have to be a female writer to make a female character. Everyone is to respect all writers regardless of their tag in this game. Disrespect will not be tolerated.
2. Themes. Your magical girl must have one theme. If it is overpowered or seems that way, then the GM will tell you to choose something else. If the theme is too narrow, then the GM will tell you to choose something else. You need to ensure you select a theme that is broad enough for you to use. She is going to acquire spells, so make sure it is broad enough for your imagination. You cannot pick the same theme as another writer. You can look at the reserved section to see what themes are reserved. Tell the GM your theme reservations. If you work on the theme in silence and someone posts the theme you wanted before you could, then I cannot help you. Reserve, reserve, reserve! You are free to change your themes throughout the character creation process. Reservations are not set in stone.
3. Activity. I expect all writers to post once every seven days. If a writer is inactive for a month, then they will automatically be dropped from the game.
4. Communicate. Communicate with each other. Communicate with me if you plan to go on vacation or take a break. It helps me accommodate for your absence and allows me to smoothly get you back into the game when you return. Communicate with your fellow writers. They cannot read your mind. Do not be afraid to PM them if you would like to plot or interact.
5. Sex Scenes. There will be a separate thread for adult scenes.
6. Support Characters. Remember, you must have a connection with a magical girl.
7. Multiple Characters. Writers are allowed one magical girl and one NPC. The NPC you make is different from the NPCs you may mention in your post. This NPC is frequently around your character like a support character. The reason why everyone gets one is because we will have some actual writers who will be playing support characters. You should reach out to these writers for support and story-building.

Hey all. Thank you for the interest so far. Here's hoping for some more. Take your time with the "theme" decision. I've had some writers share their struggle to come up with one since there are so many possibilities.  :-)

Lady Sakura

I'm kind of caught between something to do with blood bending or the spirit world. I kind of like the idea of maybe my character liking guns so a power that allows her to create different types of weapons in her transformed state.

Maybe finding a face first will help me decide better.

Levi

My idea so far is bird related specifically crows or owls. I do have some other art that I'm pondering ideas for.

Arcanist

I am definitely interested in this. Would have to think about the type of character though. Perhaps a Shinto inspired magic girl.
Choice is but an Illusion. Consequences are however real.

Metraxa

I am also tentatively interested. I'm leaning towards a character who previously thought she was the big fish, only to find that the pond is a lot bigger and spookier than she previously thought.

TheBlackThrone

Below is a support character who can have multiple connections. Possible connections:

1. Crush
2. Potential Boyfriend
3. Best Friend
4. Friend
5. Your bartender/counselor/listener
6. Masseuse
7. Your savior (if maybe need a get out of dodge card)

He has many possible relations and uses. Some may not even be completely listed above.  ;) This character was inspired by Andrew (or Motoki) from Sailor Moon. He's just that guy. XD

Name: Brett Roman
Age: 23
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 210 lbs
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Hazel
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Basic Description: Brett has an athletic build and a friendly charm, which makes him very easy to approach and socialize with. When he isn’t bartending (something he does part-time), he can often be seen around campus wearing hoodies, sweatpants, and Crocs. As a bartender, he will often wear somber colors. A button-up, short sleeve shirt, jeans, and some leather shoes. His hair is a light-brown that some believe is dark-blonde and his eyes are a honey, hazel. He always has some hair on his face, and some people may even see him wearing glasses when he isn’t wearing his contacts.

Face Claim: Nick Bateman

Personal Life

Personality: Brett is a listener, which goes well with his bartender side job. He is very easy to talk to that people can find themselves telling him more things than they would any stranger. He is good at keeping secrets, and he has a sense of humor, which borderlines on dark. Some jokes have him going to hell for laughing at them.

Every morning, Brett heads to the gym to workout since he spends the rest of his day in class, and then in the evening at the bar. He has had to throw out some unruly customers before, and he stays in shape so that he can keep doing it. He’s not a confrontational type, and so throwing people out is the last thing he wants to do. If he has to, he will. Some drunks don’t take him seriously because of his kind-hearted demeanor. They’re normally surprised when they find their asses out on the street.

Brett naturally tends to be protective of those he cares about. He is a gentleman who will walk someone home if they leave the bar late at night. If there’s ever an emergency, he would be that guy you can call and ask for help. If it’s meant to be a secret (no police involved), then he’ll still help even if it makes him nervous to do so. Even in this day and age, chivalry isn’t dead with this guy.

Likes: His favorite drink are Mules. He likes the ginger beer (he likes ginger ale too). Animals, working out, trying new things, meeting interesting people, playing Corn Hole, hiking, and going on road trips to sightsee.

Dislikes: Disrespectful people, people who bully the weak, people who lay hands on someone in his presence, getting up early (even though he does to workout), and just unfriendly people. He may be a nice guy but nobody has time for that.

Background: Brett grew up near Raleigh, North Carolina. His parents are Michael and Joanna Roman, and he has a sister in high school named Kayla Roman. He and his sister grew up on his parent’s farm. Brett, being the older brother, was introduced to his protective responsibilities early on. It has since carried over with some of his friends. He was always big and strong throughout school, and he was often teased about his farm life by his teachers and classmates. When he finished high school and the broad doors of life opened, Brett wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. All he knew was that he liked working out and staying in shape, and so he curiously applied to Charlottesville University. His career counselor helped him build an academic pathway that he so far finds to be interesting.

The rest will be filled out later once connections are established.

Major: Exercise Science on a pathway to Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree

Clubs: Gym, Corn Hole, Hiking

Sexual Ons: Brett likes naughty and flirty girls. It's contrary to his personality, but he's a sucker for them. If they're smart, pretty, and flirty, he is usually interested. Foreplay, pranks, naughty text messages, biting, scratching, vanilla, surprises, blah blah. Just see my O/Os.

Sexual Offs: O/Os

This sounds like a pretty fun idea and I might be interested. I don't have a lot of experience with group games around here because I am new. How quick is the posting frequency? Is it one of those things that I will get left behind if I don't post every day?

Levi

I would like to reserve Zodiac for my theme please

I ask people to post at least once every seven days. The frequency will depend on you and your RP partners.

Oh yay I could do once a week at least! I'm interested. I have tons of ideas for magic so I will see what others choose to help me narrow it down.
