I cannot connect with my mac and safari as it claims it cannot make a secure connection to the webpage. Phone works though. So umm... help?

For some reason Safari says it is not a secure connection and is not private. What is going on? Also cleared the history and it still didn't work.

I did switch WiFi services in the course of three weeks but it worked on Spectrum then had to switch back to XFINITY again so I have no idea if that had anything to do with it.

Chrome works as my phone does. This seens to be the correct situation. I had no clue this https verification could be an issue. So what should I do?

Well first i would ask what macOS is on your laptop. If you are up to date then i would suggest you go check system preferences/network/click on wifi then click advance in the lower right/Proxy tab/make sure there's nothing checked in the box at the top. If that is all good. Next stop is to clear the cache. So that means opening Safari preferences and going to the last tab. At the bottom that opens the dev menu which  if you check that box it will appear at the top of the screen. Mid way down that menu is the Clear Cache option. Do that, then clear history. NOTE: this will remove all your easy access links and clear some autologins
Other things you can do before hand. Go into safe mode. This means turn off the mac, hold down the shift key and boot it up, don't let go till you get to the login screen. Try the site again, if it gives you no message like that, then there's something 3rd party loading.

Safari working for me.  Secure connection to Elliquiy on laptop, desktop, iPad, and phone.  Running OS 11.6.

It appears to be a situation where macs insist on caching the old cert and refuse to update. As far as I can tell the only sane fix is to wait for Apple to update.

In general, I recommend avoiding Safari. It's the Internet Explorer of the modern web.

Its safari certificate maybe, but i've seen that exact error be other things. *shrugs* But i've also seen brand new ones never touched the website actually download the wrong one.

Laughing Hyena

Well I didn't update so, that could also be the culprit but honestly I believe when I looked at the details that I should try again later like Vek said. It said the cert would be up to speed within 0 days if I read correctly.

TheTech

Yea and i support those products daily. Just pointing out things you can do. If you are not up to date on the macOS and i dont know what year/model your macbook is. You wanna do that first because safari is integrated into the macOS unlike chrome and FF. But make sure you are able to backup before you update cause if there's data there you dont want to loose... Create a new user and see what happens too. But Safe mode is probably a good idea to see if it really is the certificate.

Laughing Hyena

Well Google and YouTube are working and after looking over this again it said that elliquiys certificate will be valid 0 days from now. It's 2011 model. Version of Safari is 11.1.2

Here's the thing I'm no troubleshooter at all and pretty sure if I try stuff I will fuck it up more

Anyway I looked at the cerificate itself. Says elliquiy is an expired root that expired at 17 of January 2022. Which is definitely not true. Said it was issued by r3. Went to details and looked it over.

DST Root CA X3 no
ISRG root x1 no
R3 no
Elliquiy no

All that stuff is over my head.

TheTech

If i recall from the pictures that there was a drop down you could manually accept it too. But im saying the certificate issue on a 2011, you have to refresh it first
But i would suggestion going into safe mode first to see if this works with E's site. You have a 2011 which can only go to 10.13.6(High Sierra) which means you cant upgrade safari. So like Ves suggested, use chrome or FF. SImple solution

Well I tried updating the OS and Safari still cannot verify Elliquiy. Sure as one said I cannot update it any further it seens as Safari is at 10. I think the only thing to do is install Chrome.

Also WTF is Spotlight and why is using so much energy?

Edit: Found out what it is but why is it using so much battery? Also updating the OS system again since she is at Sierra. So I'm just doing all that for now. So we will see what happens.

Final EDIT: Got Safari and the OS updated at long last and it works.

I was having an issue like this with on my tablet. I turned on my VPN like I always do, and suddenly it was having issues connecting to E. It kept saying E rejected my host inquiry or something. Then the moment 8 pause the VPN it suddenly connects to E again.

It was telling me that it could not connect to the website and that the website itself rejected the connection. That was all the info on the screen I could get. Then as soon as I turned off my VPN it suddenly was able to connect again and has been working fine ever since.

That's weird... maybe your vpn is doing something fucky with its connections.

Sessha

What is even weirder is all it needed was the VPN to be off for five minutes and it is working fine with THE VPN active.

Taking a guess, the VPN provider may have had something in place that prevented certificate verification taking place.
I have seen it in the past with proxies acting up - hotspot for 5 and access the site, then it’s fine on the internal network.
