Zesstra

was born Forsaken. A pale imitation of perfection, made a mockery by the... Large mark of shame she carried with her. Born into a life of torment, and resigned to her fate... Until her Draconic lineage manifested. It explained why she was always fascinated by acids hissing and bubbling as they ate away flesh and metals at any rate... The arcane abilities that came with her Draconic ancestry gave her some limited control over her life... Still looking like the same unassuming slave, she became an assassin. Secret doors, traps, locks, and people were no match for her skills with a blade, her eyes, and her arcane powers... Killing for contraband goods and luxuries to make what little time she had left as comfortable as possible... Until her fortune turned. Hired by a guard lieutenant to kill one of her subordinates in the guard, and she only recognized the lieutenant because the lieutenant used her as a slave once... The guard had stumbled into some interesting information about one of the largest black market networks... And was about to figure which overlooked lieutenant was running it. With that knowledge, she turned her blade and spells on her client, who didn't understand, she had taken great care to avoid any notice, she had no enemy whom would have known whom she was... But for the first time in her life, Zesstra killed for herself, not on behalf of someone else. By observing her client as a slave, she could figure out her cyphers... And walked away with sturdy silk clothes, miscellaneous equipment, and smuggling routes that would allow her to reach the surface unhindered... She hadn't planned beyond that, as she had heard many rumors of the surface and it's accursed Daystar, but had no concrete knowledge... She had hoped to take things one day at a time, staying out of trouble, and just living... Staying on the fringes of settled areas, not causing any trouble beyond occasionally "acquiring" (not always by legitimate ways, but never through bloodshed. Unnecessary bloodshed just attracted unwanted attention after all...) a cheap but for her unheard of until that time luxury, altering her appearance as needed to avoid suspicion... But one of the local defenders knew how to recognize spider silk... And there was really only one place where clothes made out of spider silk were normal to wear...

About Zesstra: A Drow Futa Sorceress (Criminal background) with Black Dragon Ancestry, starting CE by virtue of basically only "looking out for number one" and having very few inhibitions about hurting others to get her way, but her goal being basically "just saying alive", starting trouble would be very counterproductive to that goal... Well, as long as a good aligned adventurer would be willing to stop her from being lynched and to defend her from the usual suspects you often fight in D&D, she'd absolutely be willing to do her part to keep that mutually beneficiary agreement going... With longer-term romance and redemption to look forward to... She's a character I actually like to play, but we don't necessarily need to play by the literal D&D rules...
