ZEFFARI ISLES: Village Port Linking Allied Nations of Zeffaria and the Summer Isles

For centuries, the lands of Zeffaria went untouched and unspoiled by the more civilized nations of Riverhaven, Ironpeak and The Summer Isles. Whilst those three nations traded goods, coin and culture the people of Zeffaria remained loyal to their primal and more natural roots. However fifty years before this story begins, Riverhaven desired more land and more resources. Zeffaria's forest was filled with timber ready to be chopped down and luxury resources that were just a myth at first too those outside of it. Raids and battles on the east of the Zeffaria/Riverhaven border became regular and Zeffari slaves were taken. Despite no end seeming near, the current King of Riverhaven Jean-Phillipe has amassed his lords and his forces to attack, But Zeffaria wasn't it's only target.

Merchant ships of the Summer Isles soon found themselves surrounded by the Riverhaven fleet. Whilst the Summer Isles were well known for their sailors and their ships, relations with Riverhaven had always been good so they were caught off guard by this show of treachery. Whilst not attacking, Riverhaven prevented the Summer Isles from using their profitable trade routes. Without these, the Summer Isles was cut off from the rest of the world, the world they relied upon for important resources, most important food. This forced the Summer Isles hand, and they married Princess and heir Catherine Regis to the leader of the Zeffari 59th Battle Born Warlord Lokko forging their alliance to stop Riverhaven from cripling their nations.

Facing two enemies, King Jean-Phillipe acted quickly and Ironpeak was the victim. With no warning Riverhaven ships landed at the ports of Ironpeak under the guise of trade ships, and attacked the productive nation of Ironpeak. Ironpeak is filled with strong men who's skills focus on building. "The World was built by men from Ironpeak" is a saying that highlights the fact that they have the most skilled weapon forgers, carpenters, farmers and builders of any type in the world. With only 100 trained soldiers, Ironpeak for years had relied upon the countries around it to protect them and they would provide the best weapons, ships and over tools to them for that protection at a reasonable price. But with the sneak attack, Riverhaven soon took over all of Ironpeak, being able to now face their enemies from the east and west.  The people fled, some to Ilsmark (a nation just finishing a ten year civil war), the Summer Isles, Banniex a sympathising city port in Riverhaven and some ran into the Zeffaria Forest.

Now, with the alliance between the Summer Isles and Zeffaria a village port was planned between the King of the Summer Isles and the Battleborn Warlord. It would be a melting pot of the two nations, also giving access to any allied nations in the war against Riverhaven. They would be led by a council with members from all the important parts of each nation. This council had.

Game Information

  • This is a fantasy world/village based drama, meaning the focus of the game will be on the various different cultures and races, their motivations and their interaction with each other.
  • This game will be a sandbox freeform game with little GM involvement.(I am not an experienced GM)
  • This game will be in the NC: Human-Freeform Small Groups section.
  • This game is based off of a Request thread in solo's and various RP's which other writers have contributed to with me. Here is the link to that request thread and in that request thread are the stories written about this world.

Looking for

  • Any type of character, from Zeffaria, Summer Isles, Ironpeak, Banniex (Riverhaven City Port) or anywhere else on the map if you can think of a good backstory
  • Larger than life characters with motivations and aspirations. Are they in Zeffari Isles to help make the world a better place. Do they see it as an opportunity to thrive or turn their life around.
  • Drama, this is a cultural mix of people that don't usually co-exist. Zeffari are primal and seen as barbaric even though they probably respect their women more than the nations of Riverhaven and Ilsmark. Summer Isles are merchants and sailors, who have pride in their appearance and position in society, keeping sordid details and desires behind closed doors. Ironpeak are hard working and all about the greater good also respecting their women greatly. Ilsmark would give you pretty much free range as all towns, cities and villages differ. If from Banniex, you'll likely be an emissary for the Lord of Banniex, Guy Vernier. He will have sent politically intelligent people to keep an eye on the village, being a pro-freedom aspiring Lord under an oppressive king.

Heartsink (For this post, I couldn't build a post this pretty)
Game of Thrones and George R. R. Martin
Hatless (you've reignited my love for this world massively and suggest when we started)
FantasyKitten & Skekfaer for the two brilliant versions of the union between Zeffari Warlord and Summer Isles Princess.
etc.

Keep In Mind

  • As a sandbox freeform game, Zeffari Isles may include elements that may be triggering for some players such as sexual harassment, sexism, and other types of abuses.
  • This game has a lot of lore and history due to the amount of time spent writing this with people in Solo Games. A Discord will be set up as well as an OOC to ask any questions that may need answering.

TIMELINE

  • Estimated 750 years before BFM - Tale becomes the first Battleborn Warlord in reaction to invasions by the people of Riverhaven.
  • 0 BFM - First time historians began to note down history from. These Historians are known as The Keepers and can be from any race as long as they dedicate their life to learning and recording. There are 3 known great libraries where The Keepers study at. Riverhaven, Ilsmark and in the Emerald City in the Kingdom of Almathor across the North Sea.
  • 200 BFM - Riverhaven's efforts against Zeffaria escalate from the usual small invasions to capture slaves, to actual battle attempts. This was the first time since Battleborn Warlord Tale won the Battleborn tournament that soldiers from Riverhaven ventured into the Zeffaria forest instead of your typical slavers.
  • 238 BFM - The Civil War of Ilsmark begins and last ten years.
  • 247 BFM - Warlord Lokko becomes the 59th Battleborn Warlord winning the tournament of the battleborn.
  • 247 BFM - Riverhaven attack the Summer Isles fleet and cut off trade routes for the Summer Isles.
  • 248 BFM - Talks begin between the Zeffaria Battleborn Warlord and The Emperor of the Summer Isles for an alliance.
  • 248 BFM - The Ten Year war of Ilsmark finishes, leaving Ilsmark as a land without a ruler, with lands being led by various Lords and different groups of people.
  • 249 BFM - Warlord Lokko arranges for Princess Catherine Regis to be his Reina and rule Zeffaria with him, creating an alliance with the Summer Isles
  • 249 BFM - Riverhaven invades Ironpeak, capturing many and taking over their lands. Ironpeak citizens that escape find themselves scattered in Ilsmark, Zeffaria, the Summer Isles and Banniex in Riverhaven, a city state that has been effected by the trade routes between them and the Summer Isles being destroyed.
  • 250 BFM - The King of Riverhaven attempts to marry his cousin, who he has stripped lands from, to a Lord from Ilsmark, to secure Ilsmark soldiers for his cause the other side of the Zeffaria forest. The cousin of the King begins planning a rebellion against the King.
  • 250 BFM - Zeffari Isles is created by the Battleborn Warlord and the Emperor of the Summer Isles, meant to be a cultural mixture of all those opposing Riverhaven's invasion policies.

ELIAS

NAME: Elias
AGE: 24
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: e.g. 6'3" (1.63 m) / 205 lbs
HAIR COLOR: Brown
EYE COLOR: Brown
ETHNICITY: Zeffari
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Battle scars on his right pec and his left bicep.

FACE CLAIM: Jason Momoa

BIRTHPLACE: Warlord Camp on the Northern Borders of Zeffaria
POSITION/IMPORTANCE: Zeffari Warlord for the Zeffari Isles
HOBBIES: Training, Storytelling, Learning new cultures and languages, reading & Drinking around the campfire.
DISLIKES: Dishonesty, Slavery, Ignorant People, Laziness, Egotistical People

PERSONALITY:
Strong minded and intelligent. Elias is a loyal servant to Zeffaria and the 59th Battleborn Warlord Lokko. He is also more caring and compassionate than most Zeffari all though the culutre is learning that way amongst Zeffari men. This is in part due to his upbringing as he has spent time living in the Summer Isles, Ironpeak and Ilsmark, giving him a perspective of how the other nations are run and how their people think. However he is stubborn in his beliefs so anything that challenges that gets met by strong responses.

BACKGROUND:
Elias was compared to most Zeffari brought up as a humble boy by a relatively stable family. Whilst Elias prospered as a fighter like a lot of Zeffari, he also showed an intelligence and ability to absorb knowledge that was not as common. This ability soon became clear to the Warlord of the Camp that a young Elias was part of, who brought the boy to the attention of the 58th Battleborn Warlord. This warlord took a 14 year old Elias and sent him to go learn the ways of those outside of Zeffaria. Arranging places in the Summer Isles, Ilsmark and Ironpeak for him to learn the ways of other races, when Elias returned at the age of 20, he was perhaps the most well traveled Zeffari to ever have lived. This knowledge meant he was the perfect choice to be the right hand man to the new 59th Battleborn Warlord Lokko and was the natural pick to be the Warlord of Zeffari Isles.

LANGUAGE(S) SPOKEN: Common Tongue, Zeffari, Summes Isles, Ilsmark, Ironpeak

FLAWS: (MINIMUM OF FIVE)

  • Arrogance - With his upbringing, he believes he has the best overview of hte world and struggles to believe that others could have a better understanding of what is best for the world and those opposing Riverhaven.
  • Lust - Elias is very different than most Zeffari, but in one way he is the same. Elias has experienced laying with women all over the known world, and enjoys continuing this experience, which is why the Zeffari Isles project appealed to him so much.
  • Stubborn - Despite his world view, he doesn't believe the Zeffari should have to change their ways too much, and the suggestion of such can reveal a very stubborn invidual.
  • Acholic - The magnitude of this project has started Elias down a path of alcoholism.
  • Mean Streak - If people don't meet his expectations, especially Zeffari, then Elias has a mean streak that he has no issues with revealing.

DESIRED PLOTS

  • Conflict with a leader of another race
  • Deciding on a partner who he has been instructed must not be Zeffari.
  • Still having a Zeffari partner all though he has been instructed not to.

Definitely interested! I have a character concept in mind, but wanted to check a few details before I get too far:

  • The worldbuilding thread mentioned that magic took the form of "gifts". How powerful are these? For instance, if a character's gift was superlative strength, would they be peak (but still plausible) human strength, or would they be throwing boulders and warhorses around like some mythological Hercules?
  • Would you be expecting large-scale changes to the world setting during the game (Banniex winning its freedom, Zeffari actually being conquered, etc.), or is it meant to be more of a slice-of-life sandbox focussed on individual characters?
  • Would you be open to players creating minor factions?
  • Lastly, will the action be mainly centred around the Zeffari port village, or will it be spanning several nations (albeit with Zeffari as the flashpoint)?

Again, these are just to make sure my character concept is broadly on the right track.

I love stories like this. I already have a concept of a healer or something more! Is it okay to go ahead and post a character app or, should we wait a bit?

Chaosfox

I have to admit something like this rarely catches my interest.  How ever after reading through most everything you have, my interest is definitely piqued.

Thanks for your interest. Questions are good, cause whilst there seems a lot written about this world, there's still plenty not yet explored.

  • All gifts will be within plausible boundaries. Myths and Legends of great powers would be because of the myth or legend taking on a story of it's own. So your character could be stronger, quicker, faster of thought, have visions or an incredible knowledge but no more. As a comparison say we took the fastest speed a man could run 100m in this world was 10 seconds. A gift would be that the person could run it around 50% faster at five seconds. But of course I wouldn't want too many people to all have this same skill. And I'd like it if they worked to get to that point. So maybe naturally they could run with no training 100m in 9 or at a push 8 seconds, then they trained to get to 5.
  • The plan would be for it to be general sandbox slice of life game, but with events happening due to world events. So perhaps an influx of people because of a race being displaced. Or new alliances. Maybe even attempted invasions.
  • What do you mean by minor factions? In theory no I wouldn't be against it. But it would have to feel like a natural fit for the scenario.
  • It would start around this Zeffari port village but then it could stretch to several nations. Say a party is selected to go to Ilsmark and speak with potential allies. Or a raid on a Riverhaven town. Always potential for more but depends on interest

I'll take that as a compliment. Glad it's interested you. Not all my own work of course, lots of collaboration. So would happily accept collaborational ideas with others too.

If I do make a character for this I may go with either a merchant from The Summer Isles, or some one form Ironpeak.  Not completely sure, what you have  created between you and others is amazing I could think of a lot of interesting characters for a setting like this. I did have a couple of question's that came to mind when I was reading your world building thread: The Silent sisters, would they also be a group that lived outside the main villages of the Zeffaria?
And Out of each of the nation's which one would be the most likely have a more stealthy troops with in there armies. Not really like scouts but more like people they deploy to say spy or complete tasks behind enemy lines?

I am partial to to more stealthy like character if I go the route of someone that is more of a fighting type character, I do like the scouts of the Zeffaria but it seems that for most of them they might be motivated to try and get beyond that position. Though I supposes that like any other society there might be those  that might have  aims that are different and would seem odd to their own people.

Color me interested, particularly in a builder from Ironpeak. I have a bunch of questions about current technology - weapons and armor as well as other stuff.  Depending on the tech level and where you want to take the game, the character can fall of the spectrum of Armorer/Smith, Artificer, or maybe a full blown Izzet Engineer (pushing the boundaries of technology and magic one craze experiment at a time.

Edit: I’m on vacation 20-23 May. I will get up an initial character concept post after Thant.

Silent Sister have only shown themselves to Elias and the Battleborn Warlord so far in the story. They live outside of the main villages yes, but there’s potential for them to show themselves in the Zeffari Isles. They would be interested in Zeffari broadening their horizons.

Scouts are generally aspiring to be warriors as that’s the highest honour in Zeffari Culture. But their would be scouts of high standing.

As for stealth like characters Summer Isles lends itself to that type of character but Lord Guy Vernier of Banniex is known to have a spy ring and actually has his older uncle act as Lord Guy Vernier and he acts as his advisor. So someone from Banniex could do this

Hopefully that helps

Chaosfox

Yes that was quiet helpful. Will definitely keep that in mind while I think on a character. As for the Silent Sister's question that was mostly one of curiosity I found the idea behind them interesting and wanted to know a bit more.

Well in my mind they are extremely skilled Armorer’s or Smiths, but if anyone was going to advance that it would be Ironpeak. In what context would they be an artificer or Izzet Engineer? I’m vaguely familiar with the terms as in I’ve heard them and that’s it. Magic would be very subtle and more in the sense of them maybe mixing materials together in a way that seems magical.

Thanks.  That gives me a better handle on the character. More Armorer than Artificer.

Izzet Engineers are heavily magical (not a good fit for this world). However, they are responsible for for a lot of building (picking up on Ironpeak have the best carpenters and stone masons).  I’m not sure how practical fortification building, siege work and or tunneling would/will be.

Ironpeak would be well versed in siege work and tunnelling. Fortification is something they have started learning because of their home being invaded.

Here she is. Feel free to critique it in the dm's!

Lena
Laleńa

NAME: Laleńa (La-lenyah) Jawahra Ketema
AGE: 25
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5'1"
HAIR COLOR: Russet
EYE COLOR: Brown-Green
ETHNICITY: Mostly Summer Islander, her maternal grandfather was from Ironpeak.
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Both her feet and hands are marked with delicately looping designs of blood-red ink; mostly floral and celestial symbols. There is a sun symbol tattooed into her inner, right arm and both of her ears are pierced. Her hair is a reddish-brown, and styled in tousled, long curls that stop mid-back. Freckles dot her face and body in irregular patterns during the spring and summer. Her clothes are often muted greens and browns, and modest. The most skin you'll ever see are her arms and feet when she's free to walk barefoot.

FACE CLAIM: Ashley Moore

BIRTHPLACE: Summer Isles
POSITION/IMPORTANCE: The youngest daughter of a diplomat and a merchant and his biracial, highborn wife (Summer Islander/Ironpeaker). She took to medicine and midwifery and quickly climbed the ranks to be one of the youngest healers in the Summer Islands. She is known for her eccentricity and stubborn, headstrong nature.

HOBBIES:

Journaling - The nature of her work involves a lot of notation and memory, so of course she has books and books filled with secrets for balms, memories, and illustrations of nature. Journaling combines her love of writing and art, as well. It keeps her thoughts out of her head, if she’s not writing it down, it will be lost forever.

Hearth Work - Cooking, gardening, and keeping a home. She is a noble family’s daughter, but she spent more time with her family’s servants, learning to cook and mend from a young age. The prospect of living off the land, away from the peering eyes of others, is very appealing. She lives simply for this very reason.

Nature - Meditating within it, taking long nature walks, beach walks, swimming etc. She’s in her element where it’s green the most, ironic, when you realize her own people are seafarers.

Mentoring - Secretly, she’d like to be a mother, but she’s an old maid. Her elder sister married at sixteen, after all. Instead, she finds herself in the position of taking in little ones underneath her wing. Whether she’s their favorite storyteller, or she offers them sweets in exchange for their help. She’s the stereotype of the ‘odd woman in the wilds’, but a pleasant subversion. Sweet, and caring, she’s grandmotherly, but without the age.

Body Art - She’s fascinated by tattooing and piercings especially, something her mother laments. In her mind, she finds beauty in marking oneself and often sketches the various examples of tattoos and piercings she’s seen traveling with her father.

DISLIKES:

Chauvinism - Defined as ‘the belief in the superiority or dominance of one's own group or people, who are seen as strong and virtuous, while others are considered weak, unworthy or inferior’, she’s known to not see eye to eye to people who appear to be zealous in their worship of their nations and cultures. While she has pride in her heritage, she finds the idea of superiority to be laughable at best, and repugnant at worst.

Dishonesty - If there’s one thing you can count on, is her honesty. And so, to find out that she may have been led astray or lied to by another, it’s rather hurtful. She is a person that trusts rather strongly, so when that trust is broken, it can be hard to build back.

Conflict - Lalena is a peacemaker and peacekeeper. Tiny squabbles can turn into wars. No friendship or relationship is perfect, but her one flaw is that she’s often the first to let go. However, forgetting is another story. Healthy debate is much preferred with her, however, and she strongly loves to debate.

Pride - More than anything, she hates the braggadocious and finds humor in them being humbled.

Greed -  There is more than enough to go around. Whether it’s food, or shelter, there’s really no need to keep it all to yourself. It’s one of the many reasons why she hesitates to speak of her family’s influence. How can she trust you or even like you if all you want is money or power?

PERSONALITY:
When her father fruitlessly tried to find her a suitor in her youth, one of the mothers of the poor boys sent to her called her a ‘a vile, cat-eyed bitch’. And while it’s true that her eyes are somewhat green, she’s more hurt at her being described as ‘vile’. The term ‘bold’ is better. Bold and unruly. She prefers to do things her own way, but is willing to listen to the perspective of others. Pragmatic and bright, she is sought after for her skills as a young doctor. Her knowledge outshines her reputation, but many may find her ideas to be unorthodox. Not to mention the way she lives her life. You’d be shocked to find out that she’s a noble lady and highly educated, and not some idiot savant from the fields.

No, instead, she’s purposefully walked away from noble life and is more of a nomad, her savings are spent on her travels, food, and lodging. She has an extensive knowledge of plants and the human body and her sharp mind makes her a fun storyteller to the little ones. She likes animals, and would rather feed her last scrap of food to a dog on the street instead of living like her contemporaries - rich and fat off of the crown’s dime (or daddy’s money, in her case). She is somewhat critical of authority, and particularly, royalty, but her critique is often constructive (on the outside, at least). It’s hard to get too close to such an odd little woman. The opposite sex especially makes her nervous - strange men scare her. Even if she finds you attractive, she’ll keep you at an arm’s length. Cagey and mysterious, she doesn’t respond well to much flirting or sweet nothings and often anxiously touches male patients (or just refuses to look directly at you). As a friend, however, she is sweet and loving. Hugs and kisses are a common theme. All in all, within such a tiny body, lies a large, unstoppable force. A hurricane in the form of a girl.

BACKGROUND:
She is the youngest child out of six of her noble family’s home. Most would assume the youngest daughter to be the most spoiled, and in a way she was. Her parents valued education in all of their children, daughters included, and Lalena was most intrigued, always asking questions and wanting more. She often wandered into the servant’s kitchens, listening to gossip and eavesdropping on bits and pieces of her brother’s lessons. Eventually, her interests solidified within the realm of the human body and the natural world. After years of begging, her father relented to let her learn the same lessons as her brothers.

In her mid-teens, she went off to travel with her father and her eldest brother for a trading expedition, and it was then that she received her first tattoo - the sun on her arm. In between studying to be a healer/doctor, her collection grew. She became known for her odd behavior and the markings on her skin, which put a target on her back. She was assaulted when she was eighteen by a classmate who saw her as a rival. Afterwards, he beat her within an inch of her life.

The establishment she originally studied in kept it under wraps, and try as he might, the only thing he could get from the boy’s family was an apology and a sum of money. While her body healed, she used this time to continue studying with a private tutor, instead and apprenticed under a woman when she turned twenty. When she was twenty-two, she requested for her life savings from her father, kissed her parents, and went off on her own. This was her turning point, as she  technically abandoned her family, she also abandoned her past life and the assault. No longer was she a victim; she was a doctor, a healer.

Over the years, people knew her more and more for her work and odd, but gentle bedside manner. Knowledge of the Princess marrying the Warlord of Zeffaria's lands was surprising, however, what intrigued her more was the connection of the two nations. These people would do good with more knowledge of modern medicine, mixed in with old practices. Now, she will take on the next step of her journey - Zeffaria. Much to her father’s worry.

LANGUAGE(S) SPOKEN: Knows Common, but especially fluent in Summer Island and Ironpeak. Wants to learn Zeffari.
FLAWS:

  • STUBBORN - She does not yield easy. It’s mentioned before that in conflicts, she will bow out. However, if she feels as if she’s in the right, it takes her a long time to let go.
  • DOGMATIC - Lalena would never voice this, but in truth, she does feel that if people were more like herself - free-spirited, expressive, etc. - there would less strife. She’s clearly opinionated, which has made her unpopular.
  • ANXIOUS - Deep within herself is her troubling sense of self. She trusts very little and is often more than a little fearful of others, especially men.
  • AMBITIOUS - She wants more for herself, almost to the point of it running her life into the ground. She didn’t become such a well-regarded healer without butting heads and she still is. She will never brag about her skills. She hates bragging. However, her actions speak louder than words.
  • SELF-EFFACING - And yet, she thinks very little of herself as a person. She agonizes over losing patients and friendships, and other feels she must back away from most personal relationships out of fear of tainting them with her own brand of self hate.

DESIRED PLOTS

  • I would like for her to butt with some heads! She’s a strong willed thing, and I feel like a lot of Zeffari folk wouldn’t know what to do with her, really.
  • Romances are always fun, but she’s ultimately traumatized by her own past. The only men she trusts are the ones in her family, and they’re far away, begging her to come back. After all, Zeffaria IS dangerous. I think she’d definitely work with culture shock type of plots, romantic or otherwise. I kinda want her to find Zeffaria as a second home, or even her true home.
  • Depending on how high up her family is, she might have been a lady-in-waiting or a playmate of Princess Catherine as a child to teen.

You can't use Adelaide again, she's becoming my weakness. Sent you a PM with some feedback.

I am very much interested-- putting this down as a placeholder. I like to fill out characters based on what's already there. :3

Some questions:

- Warrior women?
- Nomadic tribes?
- Pirates? WOMEN PIRATES?
- Regional livestock types?
- Alchemist 'witches'?
- Are you touching on Almathor at all? Where is it sitting on this timeline?

Warrior women aren't extremly common in the world. The Silent Sisters are women of great combat skill. Ilsmark is the most likely to have warrior women outside of the Silent Sisters as they have been at civil war for the past ten years before peace was brokered.

Currently there are no nomadic tribes in the story.

Pirates have been mentioned but not explored. There are no set rules for Pirates if you wish to be one.

Livestock is pretty unspectacular, but again no hardfast rules have been set so I'd be open to ideas.

The closest to an alchemist would be a Voice of the Mother who can mix some interesting things together but no out right witches or alchemists.

Almathor is currently not involved with the main land, but it's trade would be affected with the Summer Isles and Ironpeak. However Almathor is pretty self sufficient with it's differing lands.

Hopefully that helped.

Very much helpful, thank you.

I have a few ideas now, would appreciate feedback/suggestions. Can always come up with more, too, if none of these suit:

- Ilsmark horseback (elkback?) archer woman of upper class, ala Japanese nobility where they are well educated and well trained, though not found on the front lines (usually). Not sure yet on motivations. Maybe to spy.

- Pirate first mate from the Summer Isles; hugely peeved at Riverhaven.  Sure, she's a pirate, but what they did they did to a whole *country* and the repercussions are ruining the lives of undeserving. A bit Robin Hood, so long as her needs are met first.

- Ironpeak refugee - uncertain on trade. Maybe smithing, maybe husbandry for the best damned horses, maybe a gift with taming/training/understanding...? The least fleshed out, but her 'deal' is that when her family fled Ironpeak, she took the opportunity to claim the identity of one of her many brothers.

- Foreign tribe (maybe harsh steppes, ala Tibet) warrior woman of whatever, presented as a "gift" for good relations but really playing a helpless sheep among wolves in order to study how best to keep the tribe (or cult?) safe from being caught/conquered/exploited.
