France is struggling to deal with an influential anti-vax lobby with some figures estimating as low as 40% of the population being prepared to be vaccinated. Rich people appear to be regularly enjoying maskless dinners in secret locations, in some cases several times a week.

I haven't seen this bit of news mentioned yet - Slovakian authorities express doubts about the Russian Sputnik vaccine they purchased. Turns out that the vaccine delivered might be different from what Russia initially sent to EU for testing:

Same in the US. For some reason there have been virtually zero deaths of the flu this year. I really hope we unmask the reason for it someday.

Working on it ;)

Man, the second vaccine shot I got has been more intense than the first. The first shot I felt a bit bleh, arm hurt, but this second one?

It feels exactly how I feel when I get a really really bad case of the flu. Urrgh. I hope this doesn't last too long. I feel really awful, but the individual administering the shot did warn me he'd noticed people reacting more intensely to the second shot than the first in general. (For the record, the vaccine I got was the Moderna one) :/

Still, vaccination was worth it given the alternatives, and at least the company I work for is going to pay me a bonus for completing my vaccination.

You mean we did the thing together? I made extended antibodies last night. And yes the second shot hit like a brick when I went down. Didn't feel like I was going to die or anything, but the fever, headache, muscle cramps, and body pain was intense. I am super glad I was able to breathe well through it all. That was my biggest fear.

For me, it's fever, chills, nausea, and muscle pain in my entire right arm. I don't normally get chills even with the flu, so this is very odd for me. >_<

I'm not breathing well at all, but that's not the vaccine doing that, I'm very sure. That's the heavy allergies I have from every single plant and flower and tree in my little rural country town letting all their pollen and gunk in the air. Uggggh, springtime.

OMGosh, the tree rape is bad this year. I might get addicted to benadryl. Our car was covered in yellow pine pollen yesterday.

I find one of the most effective things you can do to counter and discredit anti-vaxxers is to call attention to how profitable it is, and how well the anti-vaxxer saints do out of spreading their disinformation. Puncture the belief that Big Pharma is the one raking in money, while anti-vaxxers are spreading the truth out of the good of their hearts.

AB 925 clears Assembly Public Safety Committee with full Support
Assemblywoman Dahle advances legislation to increase the availability and affordability of Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Evidentiary Exams.

SACRAMENTO – On April 13, 2021, Assembly Bill 925 by Assemblywoman Megan Dahle (R-Bieber) passed out of the California Assembly Public Safety Committee on a vote of 7-0 in support of the bill. The legislation will provide greater reimbursement to providers of Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations. These exams are a critical avenue for justice for victims of sexual assault, but there is currently limited access to them as reimbursement is severely limited, and the exams are time consuming and costly for providers to perform.

“Rural areas suffer especially limited access.” Said Dr. Sean Dugan MD, one of the few providers of Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Exams in the North State who works at Shasta Community Health Center. “My clinic covers the territory of seven large counties in the First Assembly District because I am one of the only trained providers in the area. As a result, victims seeking these exams are forced to travel up to three hours in some cases wearing the same clothing in which they were assaulted for multiple days as they await availability for an exam. This is untenable, and providers need greater reimbursement to help address this lack of access.”

“As the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated rates of sexual violence throughout the nation, AB 925 is a critical step towards expanding availability and affordability of these exams.” Said Assemblywoman Dahle. “Not only are they an important avenue for victims to seek justice, but they are also an essential healthcare service. I am excited that this bipartisan issue has been selected as a priority for the Legislative Women’s Caucus this year, providing an opportunity to partner with my colleagues across the aisle to advance this important policy. Access is a statewide problem, but especially magnified in rural areas like those I represent in the First Assembly District.”

AB 925 is supported by the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC), along with the Police Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), and was selected by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus as a policy priority. Assemblywoman Dahle serves on the Assembly Appropriations Committee, which will be the next committee to consider AB 925 this spring.

'Follow the money' works just as well in researching vaccine denialists as for Big Pharma. I've mentioned in a lot of spaces that Wakefield started the 'vaccines cause autism' trend in order to discredit the MMR and sell his own patented measles vaccine to the NHS, that LifeSiteNews is a nutritional supplement retailer who, back in the day, claimed to sell a herbal compound that could cure Ebola, etc. Can confirm that antivaxxers hate being called out like that.

This is just wonderful: amid the pandemic (which is hitting Poland harder and harder), Polish bishops issue a statement on how the AstraZeneca and J&J vaccine raise "serious moral objections" and how Catholics should try to avoid being vaccinated with them:

https://notesfrompoland.com/2021/04/14/polish-bishops-express-serious-moral-objection-to-astrazeneca-and-jj-covid-vaccines/

They admit that, when no other choice is possible, it's okay to be allowed to be vaccinated with them... but a person vaccinated should, in such a case, voice a definite objection to abortion...

For crying out loud, bishops. Just. Shut. Up.

A survey showed still only 75% medical professionals got vaxed. I have no idea when "young people" will be allowed. I was discussing this online and an American got mad that "I don't do my part" by getting vaxed. "Every state has people your age vaccinated." I was like, cool? Do you want to fly me in? LOL

... "Pretty Parisienne" would seem to rapidly suggest that what is happening in the states has very little to do with you.

America is fucking huge, and I know Americentrism is an easy trap to fall into, but my goodness that is a failure to attend to detail.

Besides, I'm not sure international travel from France to US is even a thing right now. Last I knew the other way around was certainly not, but I don't follow super closely.

While I'm not sure if your nationality was as well-disclosed in that conversation, I might suggest asking your own doctor about the vaccine rollout?  I had to do that (yes, in America) and it wasn't until a week and a half ago that our state made everyone over 16 eligible.  (Thankfully, that's all I have to worry about.  Little Oni is above that threshhold.)

Or maybe check with you know, the Pope? He okayed medicines developed from that source, some time ago.

Pfft.  What does the Pope know about God's will?  (I swear, I've run into people with that attitude elsewhere.  I'm not Catholic, but really?)

It's been brought to my attention that my post wasn't especially clear.  Not all religious folks consider the Pope to be the be-all-end-all the way Roman Catholics are supposed to.  It's a much clearer rebuttal to point out that at least two vaccines don't use human cells of any derivation, fetal or otherwise.

I do know some docs will give you a note saying you are at risk etc. But frankly I wouldn't feel good taking the vaccine now that not even all nurses have it not to mention salespeople, teachers etc. My mom qualifies but she can't take an appointment until like next month, it's so full. (some people will keep on attacking because your country should be like America so if it's not you're lying or bad)

Beguile's Mistress

Got my second Pfizer shot yesterday and while the injection site is okay I am having some mild side effects like fever, nausea and body aches.  The pain meds for my dialysis are helping with the aches and the fever to ease those somewhat and I'm drinking plain tea and eating dry toast for the tummy and hoping it is all better by tomorrow.
