They are the most renowned & celebrated heroes in the world, they are the Seven.
In a world where Superheroes are privatized and the center of a massive, multi-billion dollar industry stands Vought International. The company holds a near absolute monopoly on the superhero market, strictly controlling their brand by any means necessary. Sometimes this involves threats to sue someone who might undermine their stars, sometimes it involves discretely covering up the actions of their heroes. That's the thing about the Seven. Most famous & powerful superheroes on the planet they may be but good people? Not so much. Untouchable rockstars with all manner of secrets, debauched pass times or just plain deep rooted personal issues. At least they make bank.

I am looking to start an RP based on (or at least very heavily inspired) by 'The Boys' series (more the show over the comics). This RP will initially focus on 'The Seven' and Vought International. This is intended to be a long term game designed for players interested in world-building and plot development.

Do I need to have read the comics/watched the show?
No. So long as you can understand the general concept. A massive corporation uses Superheroes as a product, making them the center of a widespread media empire. Superheroes save the day but are prone to all manner of mischief

Will you be 'GMing' the story?
To an extent. This is a collaborative narrative and anyone who wishes to participate will be expected to contribute to the overall experience. I will set up a Discord chat everyone will be required to join, we use it to keep in contact, plot events, organise and world build but I will not be GMing in the traditional sense. I will be more of a first among equals who might nudge things along or take the lead as we get started.

Do I have to play as a member of the Seven? Can I play one of the Boys?
The Boys will be introduced later. For now my primary concern is building a healthy roster of characters revolving around the Seven & Vought International.

The game will be broken up into two types of threads. "Plot threads" which will focus on the main plot and "General threads" which will be open/sandbox RP in the setting. You may wish to play a character who has no direct involvement in the main plot and takes part strictly in the general threads, this is perfectly acceptable. I might advise keeping in mind whatever character you decide to play will still need to be someone with a reason to interact with the rest of the roster (which will likely be the Seven and the executives/ranking members of Vought International) but you are free to explore options. The character sheet will aim to be quick & easy so taking up smaller, less important or 'for fun' characters should be viable.

Since I’m the one that bugged you to redo this I’d like to throw in for a seven.

Sounds good, and I got your PM. Use whichever idea you think would suit the plot best!

Character: The Warden
Player: Primarch

Role: The Seven
Powers/Special abilities:

  • Enhanced Physical Attributes: The Warden possesses tremendous superhuman physical attributes to the point that he blatantly outclasses any superhuman not associated with the Seven. This includes his physical strength, speed, durability, stamina, senses & reflexes. While all of his physical capabilities are very high superhuman caliber it is his physical strength that is particularly impressive. It is generally accepted that he is the physically strongest entity alive, to the point that Vought International have been unable to quantify his upper limit. He appears to be functionally indestructible, experiences no discomfort underwater, in space or in any other 'hostile environment' and he does not appear to actually require any form of rest or sustenance, though he will still occasionally indulge. Should something be found that can injure him in any significant way, his body will heal remarkably quickly.
  • Gaelic Magic: Warden does not 'perform magic' in any sense, he does not know spells and he cannot perform incantations. That being said he most certainly has access to some form of energy and an ability to control the elements that is poorly understood at best. As the scientists that treated him as an infant selected him due to his potential status as a 'Chosen one' the writing team spin this as 'magic.' Regardless of what it is, certain things seem to happen to augment actions he performs. This appears to manifest in the form of a golden energy often emanating from his eyes or forming the image of an appropriate animal around his person depending on an action he is performing. When running one might be able to perceive a wolf running in time with his motions, or when lifting something it might take the shape of a bear. He has also been known to cause instances of the elements to manifest, a punch might cause the boom of thunder or his fist might momentarily catch fire. When flying he might becoming surrounded by wind (or the shape of a golden bird might appear over his form). His mood also appears to be capable of influencing local weather, certainly storms have been known to manifest (or threaten to) when he is angry, or it might rain when he is upset. That being said when he's in a good mood, you can count on good weather!
  • Flight: Warden can fly under his own power. While it will sometimes he augmented by his 'Gaelic magic' it is ultimately something he can do regardless of it. His flight speed is significantly beyond his ground running speed and faster than the human eye can follow though even at full speed he is not as fast as a fully fledged 'Speedster.' It is advisable not to say this to his face, as the last speedster to do so no longer has kneecaps.

Personality:

  • Gregarious: Warden is a larger than life gregarious individual who simply oozes charisma. When he laughs it comes across as a very genuine and almost infectious laugh While its impressive to watch him lift a sinking oil tanker out of the ocean, its almost more impressive to watch him work a room of people with one of his signature cigars hanging from his mouth. Quite simply people like being around him and generally he likes to be around then. Men want to be him & women want to be with him, actually these days just as many men want to be with him and women want to be him.
  • Proud: While he might play the role of 'humble' for the media, he's not. Warden is tremendously proud of who he is and his achievements. He's proud of the Seven and encourages them in a way one might expect a big brother too (for younger members of the Seven at least). Long since media trained, he will generally do as Vought request but he has been known to chase under certain media events or spins on his narrative when he wants to go in a different direction and doesn't get what he wants.
  • Fierce: Though friendly and charming as he can be in front of the camera's and with company Warden has a notorious temper behind closed doors, especially towards anyone who attempts to undermine him (and to a lesser extent the Seven). Warden thinks nothing of using savage violence or even murder to protect his 'bread & butter.'

History:

  • Throughout the 80's researchers in the EU branch of Vought International started researching an ancient Irish Gael prophecy for a 'Chosen One' or Child of Destiny type figure, curious to see if such an individual might make for a viable (or even superior) Superhero candidate. By tracking the prophecy and key family bloodlines they eventually sourced a viable candidate. In Ireland a single expecting mother gave birth to her child in a Catholic hospital. The local Nuns & Priests intended to pressure the woman into giving her child up for adoption, believing a single woman having a child out of wedlock was no suitable parent, while a well to do Catholic couple were willing to adopt. Vought International intercepted, bought the child from the Church and prepared a research facility in the rural countryside where they would not be disturbed. Thus Conor became a ward of Vought International.
  • Conor was treated with Compound V immediately and spent the first four years of his life in the research facility. As he had not displayed any signs of superpowers it was arranged that he would be raised by a young & recently married scientist and his wife. From there Conor enjoyed a relatively normal youth though his medical check ups happened under the close eye of Vought International. It was not until his early teenage years that his body started undergoing rapid biological changes that boosted the capabilities of his physiology in almost unprecedented ways. He was immediately relocated to the research facility where he would spend the next few years undergoing testing and being prepared for life as a superhero on the Vought International roster. When the small facility hidden in Ireland could no longer meet their needs, Conor was relocated to the USA and Vought International's primary facilities.
  • While originally it was intended that Conor (now presented to the media under the name 'The Warden') would join a junior team and gain some experience, his capabilities far exceeded what was expected and at age 20 he became the youngest member of The Seven to date. For the last sixteen years he has been operating as a staple part of the Vought brand, saving the day, showing his face for the camera and in general becoming one of the most famous people on the planet. As of 2010 he has dropped any attempt at a civilian life and now exists solely as 'The Warden' (or just Warden).

Relationships/Connections:

Secrets/Gossip:

  • Warden has occasionally expressed interest in meeting his biological parents and Vought psychiatrist's have noted what appears to be a deeply rooted desire to gain their acceptance and understand why he was given up for adoption. Currently he believes there are no records of who his birth mother was. What he does not know is that Vought have located his mother and keep her under surveillance, should he ever threaten to go rogue she might be a viable means of control.
  • Warden appears to have an appetite for famous women, particularly actresses. While occasionally encounters can be arranged it has led to several hush money payments and the signing of NDA's. The internet has long gossiped about his romantic status and association with Hollywood's elite dames. Perhaps the most complicated element, Warden has fathered a child by one actress, though this has been kept from the media. Currently the legal teams associated with both individuals believe it is best Warden keeps his distance, though he has recently been angling for contact.
  • And I will leave one open for later.....

Would a character who is billed to the public as a Doctor Strange type but is in fact more of a Mysterio/Loki type whose main power is illusions be kosher, or would that step too much on Warden's toes with both of them having a schtick for magic?

I'm totally in love with The Boys, so this definitely has my interest. Going to sleep on it and see if any crazy ideas pop up :)

Nope, that's fine! Warden is more of a Superman with a magic slant (so like Shazam I guess?), so a Mysterio/Loki type should be fine. Just keep in mind to be on the Seven the character would still need something behind the illusions to justify being on the worlds top hero team.
