There are spoilers in here for those who haven't finished the show(s). This is the only warning regarding that.

Hot Earth (Post-Sozin's Comet, Pre-Korra)

Zuko wants to be a good Fire Lord. He wants to change what it means to be a Fire Lord. For so long, being in that position meant violence and anger. He wanted to change that and worked hard at making amends for the things his family had done in the past. One thing he had to fix was what had happened to his mother. In secret, he continued to visit his father. He kept this to himself for a time. Even lying to the one person he shouldn't. Mai tolerated a lot from him, but ultimately, she couldn't tolerate lies.

"You love your secrets more than you love me." Those were her last words to him on the day she left him.

It took a long time to feel normal again after that. He had plenty to focus on to help with that.

Eventually though, his council began pushing for a marriage. He had never got around to proposing marriage to Mai. His experiences in such things were limited and Zuko was happy to turn the task over to his council. He saw how happy Aang and Kitara were. As much as he wished he could have that, he just didn't feel like that in the future for him. Arranged marriages were not unheard of. Despite having earned the right to choose a wife for himself, Zuko didn't think he had it in him to do that.

While on a trip to Ba Sing Se for a meeting with the Earth King, Zuko was surprised to be addressed as "Lee" by a girl serving tea at the palace. It took several moments for him to recognize the girl. It was Jin. The girl his Uncle had once made him go on a date with. His first date and his first kiss.

Notes:
  • I would prefer to play Zuko, but I could play Jin too.
  • Jin is a small side character. She's not shown to be a bender of any sort, but that doesn't mean she isn't. She could be an Earthbender if we wanted her to be. We really have no history on her character other than being a refugee in Ba Sing Se at the time of the war. She's pretty open to being fleshed out as a character.
  • Part of the plot would be Zuko's decision to court a girl from the Earth Kingdom. Inter-nation marriages and relationships seem pretty rare, so it would be a big deal for the Fire Lord to do it.
  • Another part would be Jin coming to terms with just who Zuko really is. It would be a slow building relationship with a lot of tension.
  • Based on Korra, we know Zuko had at least one child (Izumi). But he could have had more with who ever his wife is (it's never mentioned who Zuko eventually marries). Even if Jin isn't an Earthbender, being from the Earth Kingdom, she could still have an Earthbending child.
  • The council would do everything it cans to dissuade Zuko from trying to marry Jin and to convince Jin to leave. Maybe even send high born Fire Nation girls to try to scare her off so that they can have their chance.

Enough interest in this one. Thank you!

Fire and Water (Pre-Aang world)

Some looked to the moon from the icy shores and watched how it pushed and pulled the tides.

Some watched the badgermoles with their blind eyes move the dirt to create tunnels.

Some watched dragons create fire within their bodies and felt the heat of the sun on their backs.

Some observed the majestic flying bison soaring through the clouds and wondered how such beasts could manage it.

No matter how they learned, they all had one thing in common. They were able to manipulate the elements of the world around them. The stories of the first benders were generations old at this point, but benders were still far and few between. Many towns and villages had began appointing these rare people as leaders. Slowly, dynasties were being built. Larger and larger cities began to spring up with stronger and stronger families.

Those that learned from the badgermoles occupied the largest land masses and had the widest reach. This caused the others to fear. A rift began to form. Rather than working together as one, they began to separate more and more. Those that respected the flying bison took to their mountain top temples. Those who looked to the moon split their tribes and hid in the poles. Those who learned from fire breathing dragons kept to their volcanoes, but they knew they were the easiest targets. The attack came in the most unusual of manners. A marriage request. They wanted the fire princess to marry their prince. If they accepted, war would be avoided. But to accept would be to turn their lands over to the earthbenders. Any child between them would rule both lands and be influenced by it's father's family first.

Despite the war they knew it would cause, they refused the offer...and made one of their own.

They offered their youngest son to the second daughter of the northern water tribe. Since neither were in an easy place to take the ruling position, there would be no risk of either nation taking control over the other. The condition was that the prince would have to move to live among the water tribe. It left the water tribe with an advantage in their alliance.

Notes:
  • Since this takes place a very long time before Aang's, the Northern Water Tribe does not allow it's women to learn fighting styles, only healing. I see this as a good plot point. Perhaps even though it's Fire Style, the prince could attempt to teach his new wife how to fight since her own people won't teach her.
  • Meanwhile, the princess could teach her new husband how to be more tolerant and calm.
  • At some point, I'd like the prince to be called off to war against the Earth kingdom. Perhaps in that time, the Earth does get a foot in the door at the North Pole. Managing to take it over for a short period of time where their prince tries to convince the married princess to marry him. She would, of course, refuse and surprise him and her family by fighting back.
  • The fire prince could come back with some emotional trauma or disfiguring injuring (lost a limb or something).
  • I'd prefer to play the fire prince, but am open to being the princess.
  • Also, totally okay with making it two princes or two princesses. Could make for a bit more drama.
  • No non-con. Absolutely none. The Earth Prince could be a little pushy and touchy feely, but he'll never go further than that.
  • Also willing to make this less fandomy. Since there are no canon characters and most canon events haven't happened, we could make this fully OC and omit any mentions of an Avatar and things like that.
  • Also willing to make it more fandomy. Totally open to exploring later in life Zuko when he finds a wife or possibly exploring General Iroh (Zuko's grandson, not Uncle Iroh).
