Thank you all for the help. I'm still brainstorming. Will see what comes of it. Oh Forgot to say the first girl is a rocker chick. But you're right she may be to dark for this game.

Bibliophilia

I'm not sure if the first idea is 'too dark', as long as you can find a way to play that idea without her personality preventing her from interacting with the other characters in a meaningful way and also not make her history the center of her whole story arc.

A lot of times the trouble with tragic backstories in group games is that the character is so involved in that backstory that they can't (or won't) follow the story that everyone is making together.  It begins to feel as if the character's story becomes the focus and that becomes frustrating for other players who didn't sign up to play a game revolving around one of the other characters.

Edit:  Also, often characters with trust issues are played so stand-offish that it feels like pulling teeth to get them involved.  It can warp the story as well, if everyone else in the game is being forced to divert their focus into dragging one character along to be engaged in the story.  Again, it becomes all about that one character, rather than everyone getting their own space to shine and be involved in the story.

If you can do that, there's absolutely nothing wrong with making a character like that.

Crash

I find super shy characters have that effect on a game too. Everyone having to pull one characters along.  I suppose anything that constantly focuses the game on one player can be a problem no matter the backstory.  As Bib said.  If you feel you can do it go for it.

No guarantee any of us will get accepted so send in the one you want to play most.

-nodnod.-  I had to manage Robin very carefully, because he could easily turn into an anti-social character that spends all his time playing music or composing, instead of engaging with the game.  But, by judicious use of his relationship with his mother and a keen measure of self-awareness, I can play him realistically trying to temper his own instinct to withdraw.

Plus, once he gets his shard, his natural curiosity and enjoyment over developing his powers will allow him to refocus some of his attention in that direction.

Edit:  This is all should he be approved, of course.

Xurtan

Agreed with both of those comments. That's true whether it's in tabletop games such as D&D or slice of life or anything else, really. Asshole characters are fine, so are shy ones or standoffish, arrogant types. But it needs to be a case of this character having a reason and a want to push forward with the group without being dragged or making it a thing, essentially. Collaborative storytelling is such that it needs to be a bit about everyone, with people sharing or having moments in the spotlight but also genuinely wanting to push things forward (both side story and main story wise), even if their character is reluctant. *grin*

I find depth helps a lot with that, as even if you're grumpy and annoyed by moving forward, having something that ties you to it whether it be curiosity or a goal or whatever else at least gives you reason to be contributing.

That said, I do have plans for Faye to keep her from hiding away. Who knows? Maybe heroism is what she needs to get out of her shell! :D

It is all on how people play it as Bib and Xurtan said.  So if you’re taking agency to move her forward you are good.

I've seen first hand how loners, shy characters, etc. can crash a real world game, I'm not about to do it here. Her being shy is also balanced by her being a compassionate soul and the fact she comes packing Healing means she just can't allow herself to sit back, I just wanted to play that cute sweet healer you can find here.

I'm kind of hilariously amused I thought of that exact comic when I was reading your sheet.

I've always ended up far more the bottom version when healing, but I am an admitted asshole. Admittedly I'm usually the one pulling more because the tank is slow, but still.

I have pulled a quote or two from that as a White Mage in FF14. "If you stand in the damaging puddle, I'm not healing you. Double for the tank." But yeah, the more I built Faye the more I thought of that comic because it was just starting to fit :P

-giggles.-  I refuse to play healer in Overwatch.  I suck at those games because I have horrible spatial awareness and reflexes, but I love my Mei.

Which totally explains Robin, except with a splash of Jaina.  Still, I'm all about them ice powers and being able to run in and spam...even though you aren't supposed to do that.  Have I mentioned I suck at those games?

TF2 Pyro and Mei ftw.

I SHOULD HAVE made a super shy asshole whose attacks specialize in dragging everyone down and making everything about him.

Obligatory https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXKcojj7Vk4 ?

Though truthfully I always played Spy more than anything, as much as I did my time as Pyro/Medic/Engi. I was a Reaper main mostly when I played OW, but can confirm I blocked several of my friend's Rein ults as Mei, so. Job complete? Also one tragic moment I blocked a jumping Winston and he fell into the void.

And hah, healing in XIV was always a trip. Especially with randoms, where it's like whelp, guess I'm uh, solo healing this Savage fight. Thanks. Gives me an excuse to go for orange heal parses instead of damage for a change, but woof.

I suppose it did in my head but at the moment I am so tired I may just be typing in classic frontier jibberish.

Sudden desire to play a character that speaks in nothing but...

Muse

*Smirks*

When i'm part of conversations like this, i can never decide if i'm happy or very sad that i don't play MMOs!

I don't play MMORPGs, personally, because I tend to lose interest really quickly.  My video game tastes run pretty narrow, unfortunately.  I really wish sometimes that I had broader tastes so that I could enjoy games with more interactivity or a more engaged community.

But, then I recall my brief experiences with LoL and reconsider...

Xurtan

I have... something like twelve thousand hours in League? So don't look at me, I'm an objectively terrible person. :p And hah, MMOs have their place but yeah, it's definitely a specific genre. I like the co-op/group/guild aspects, mostly.

I use to play mmo’s.  They take up way too much time though so my video game consumption is virtually nothing now.  It’s all writing and ttrpg when not adulting.
