Alright! Got some interest going, awesome! Thanks everyone. :) Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

To answer Amarlo's question, HairyHeretic has it right. Fatebinding essentially ties the fates of the two people together. They're going to keep winding up interacting, because Fate. And the bound person is sort of... Attached to the fate of the binder. Like the next paragraph (post example) says, it creates relationships. There's a... Fate Debt, I guess is the best way to put it?

Hey. Totally interested. Gonna start on my character ASAP.

Also it seems like fatebinding is a mix of a Wookie Life Debt(wherein the person who is saved swears their life to their savior until the debt is repaid somehow) and the Djinn wish Geralt made involving himself and Yennefer, which is why they're bound to always end up together.

HairyHeretic

Fate is the driving force in Scion. Fate wants the characters to become the heroes and heroines of myth they're meant to be. Want to know why the lake monster wakes up from a 300 year nap just after you rent that cabin for a holiday? Fate. Want to know why they person escaping from the titan worshiping ninja cult crashes into you when they run round the street corner? Yep, Fate again.

Fatebindings basically suck people into your mythic orbit. Fate needs them to play a role in your story. Let's say you save them once, and they get Fatebound into that role. Fate will move things so they're crossing your path, over and over again. Go to the next city, hey, they were just there to visit a sick aunt, and whoops, you need to save them. Again. Go to another country, Fate will see to it that they win an all-expenses-paid trip there, and have the terrorists take over the museum you're both visiting.

Fate ... what a rascal :)

The Fatebound can end up a friend, an enemy or anything in between. Whatever is needed so that your character becomes who they are supposed to.

I really like this concept...tentatively want to face claim Katherine McNamara.

Hey there! I'm interested (I'd like to tentatively reserve Lucas Bloms as a Faceclaim)! I already know what kind of character I want to create, but I have a couple of questions.

The first is that since we're using Stats, I assume we're using a system? What system are we using? How will the Stats take shape in-game? Is it a d20 or a d6 system? I apologise if this information was there, there was a lot to read so I might have missed it! Are we using Scion, or a system kind of like Scion but not quite Scion?

The second is...do we need to pick Boons and Epic stuff from the list, or can we make up our own? Would you be able to help with that? In my head, I'm leaning towards a Chosen of Ares, and he'd be very much the "berserker rage" kind of character (though I'm also considering a Chosen of Odin no bad Vergil muse, bad!). Alas, the Talents and Boons in the list don't really lend themselves to that. So I suppose my question is, "Are we limited to what's on the list, or can we make our own with GM guidance, and how would they be 'deployed' in game?"

The third is more about Epic Attributes; how do they manifest in game? You said that they also provide a "Static Enhancement." What does that actually mean? And how do you get "More" Epic Attributes? Is there an exp and levelling system?

I'm still on the fence about joining, but the answers to those questions would really help me decide <3

Men in general judge more by the sense of sight than by that of touch, because everyone can see but few can test by feeling. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion. Therefore it is unnecessary to have all the qualities I have enumerated, but it is very necessary to appear to have them. And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.

Dubbed the "Oath of Drake,"
A noble philosophy; I adhere...for now.

I'm reserving Chris Hemsworth...the chosen of Thor. (Knows exactly what he did)

Vergil Tanner

Please tell me that you are literally going to be playing Chris Hemsworth. As in, your character will be the actor Chris Hemsworth, having been chosen by the real Thor. :P

Hahahah that could actually be awesome if Aethyrium allows it.

If I wanted to use 2 points on Mjolnir, what effects would it get? That's gonna determine whether it gets 2 from the start, or I put that extra point into strength or stamina while having the hammer at level 1.

Aethyrium

Faceclaims have been updated... With a skeptical look given at Chris Hemsworth as a chosen of Thor. Sort of on the nose, don't you think? Oh and on the topic of playing actually Chris Hemsworth, let's just... Not. Thank you.

Onto questions! Vergil Tanner:

Stats and system:

"When you go to create your character for Emergence you will need to make a few choices about them. Most notably is that you will need to spend a couple of points on Traits. This is to create some character distinctions, give a sense of strengths and weaknesses that can be gauged and to ultimately allow for meaningfully demonstrated progression. Here is what you need to know:"

Which is to say, no, no system at all. Stats are in place to create a general feel and understanding of different skills and a way to see progression acted out.

Boons and Epic attributes may be created - all lists are given purely as examples to demonstrate power to cost. So yes, you can create, and I am available to help - so long as you understand that some power scopes may simply be outside the realm of what is possible at these levels.

A character with epic strength can lift hundreds of pounds, or thousands even with enough of it. Epic dexterity would indicate something like speed. Stamina might represent ability to go days or weeks without food / water / sleep. These are how things might naturally present beyond the minor abilities they given. As for more, they will be given as the game progresses and characters earn them. You might call it milestones - no trackable xp/leveling system is intended for use.

To Jugg's question about Mjolnir.

Birthrights don't increase in power... Typically? That is a birthright that is made at level 2, is a level 2 Birthright forever. So, if you wanted a weapon that greatly resembled the actual mjolnir, you'd likely need to invest many more than 2 points. Consider how many powers Mjolnir has / bestows. At 2 points, what it might look like is entirely up to you and which aspects of the weapon you wanted to carry over. Each point should represent something specific... Access to Sky boons would be 1 point, and then an activated power that was a single lightning strike at the cost of willpower might be the 2 point.

Amarlo

>.> I would personally prefer we not have a Chris Hemsworth fc in a game about gods that isn't Avengers. Lmfao.

Seduce my mind and my body will follow.

Ooooh, so the stats just give an indication of what your character is good at and specific abilities, but there aren't like...dice rolls and wounds? Like, you don't have to roll To Hit and roll Damage, or keep track of how many injuries you have? Though I assume you have to track Willpower so you know how many times you can use Willpower-activated abilities, right?

As for Boons and Birthrights, are your PM's open so I can chat to you about my ideas without clogging the Recruitment Thread? :-)

Correct. No to hit, damage, or wounds. However yes, there will be the minor tracking of willpower for those reasons.

And yes, my box is indeed open.

I actually picked him for all the lightning pictures, but I did enjoy him being a normal guy empowered by the mythological asshole, drunkard, red-haired Thor and not the Marvel version.

Just picturing a massive, Nordic man child drunkenly spilling his food and beer  and talking shit to him about being a blond pretty boy and not worth his blessing.

My idea of Thor

Vergil Tanner

Right! Shot you a PM. Hopefully I can work something out that fits ^_^

Attention

At this time I will be closing recruitment for Emergence, and the game will entering indefinite hiatus. Thank you so much for the interest and work that has been done thus far. While at some point I would love to resurrect this concept, at this time it seems unlikely - and if so, will return in a somewhat different form. Unfortunately the timing just hasn't worked out the way I had planned, and the driving force behind its creation has shifted irreconcilably in another direction. My many apologies.
