@TheLaughingOne - Well a reluctant monk would definitely have a reason to reach out to Patricia or someone like her out of boredom or desire to perhaps get out of his predicament.  The Knights would be active with the Church to a certain extent and perhaps the Church might send monks along to tend to the religious needs of the Knights.  There are ways to make at least an acquaintance work even if it's just; 'hey, I recall seeing you somewhere before...' level of knowledge.

*Nods* im figuring he wasnt quite cleric and more of a "layman" style, goon with a club. Not a knight or any recognized arm of the miltiants, but just sort of a thug wearing a frock. sent along to support knights as sort of line infantry or such. Possibly had "potential" for a knight, but never really followed through with it or had the faith to becomee a paladin.

@LaughingHyena - I look forward to the discussions of power and possibilities.  It seems that Patricia is building a life of her own as I answer some of our GM's questions regarding her background...

I do admit it would be impossible to turn her into a Paladin with an Oath of Conquest when she already broke it. So either I would have to do that much more work, perhaps reforging that oath into one meant for a Lawful Evil patron or... I dunno. No idea on how to go about it.

I can imagine maybe some training familiar to my characters past career would be a valid way to reshape a shaken and lost lion into a much more loyal wolf. Sort of motivating her to either break those bindings the guards put her in or embrace her submission and her chains. Pure hypotheticals right now. In short the Oath of Power, the Oath of Conquest is not for the faint of heart. It's for the strong and is always earned, never given, always taken, never granted. Only the strong are Bane's chosen.

Didn't even realize what a sermon that is until I got to the end of typing it out. Guess Patricia isn't the only one coming to life now. ^_^

<Aric> pppffft... why do something so boring as to dedicate oneself to a god? She has already slaved away serving one uncaring diety... why sign your soul away to another..?
Granted, this whole Asmodeus thing seems alright... he doesnt quite seem the type to micromanage ones life pointlessly... So why not dedicate sometime to yourself..? Expand your own horizions and... Enjoy what you have. Embrace The Flesh. *his smile showing off teeth just a bit to long. Like large sharp table knives*

Grell: "Or why dedicate at all to someone, why not herself? As you can grasp the power which was once given and just merely steal it and take it as hers alone."
-Ironically said by warlock who has patron as sugar daddy (or mommy) for magic powers.

TheLaughingOne

*Aric sighs and slumps, hands raising up to rub his forehead* that.. .. Thats what i was saying. Dedicate it to yourself..? Expand your Horizions. enjoy... all that.. I mean... I thought it was pretty clear.. ... Was it clear? I mean.. ... It sounded clear to me in my head... *he considers for a long moment with an unsure look*

Grell: "Well, you mentioned Asmodeus and if you think Asmodeus would not meddle with your life once you dedicate to him your dead wrong. Asmodeus gives nothing out for free."

TheLaughingOne

<Aric> Oh! well, i had figured that.. I mean, as i understand it "he" wants us to work for him.. And since he got us out.. .. More or less somehow i figured we are kind of stuck. I figure this as more of a...... *he considers while gesturing his hands in the air* Quid pro quo. General working situation. Yes. We have to do as he commands.. But we are still somewhat free to do as we wish.. ... To extents. But by sighing on Under him we are less contracted mercenaries and more of Bonded Serfs. Fewer options, chance for advancement. Ability to express free will and all. ... If one wished to be very pesimistic... As stands we hve the illusion of free will. If we completely buy in with him, we lose even that is my point. Sure, maybe some better benefits, but i would rather be expendable With a choice rather then Expendable without a choice..

Grell: "So far as I understand the arrangement, Asmodeus is a cat we want to purr for us. But cats purr only if we stroke and pet along the hairs course then reverse hair course. So need keep stroking the right direction and cat purrs. Of course my case is bit more complex as my own patron who grants me power is not Asmodeus but is denizen of hell. A feminist sort rebel who wants even playing field for women in Hell's hierarchy besides Glasya, which bloodline I carry and indicates actual devil ancestry was a Glasya loyalist. So far as I know Glasya is precious daugther of Asmodeus and she can get away lot of things and may perhaps interested expand Hell's horizons? Considering she and Fierna are holding girl's only meetings already. At least these rumors my imp has heard."

Laughing Hyena

Tarnath: "Because the Black Hand always strikes down those whom deny him in the end. Asmodeus is not the god I serve, but he is one whom my god conspires with. A compact of loyalty for freedom is not the offer I'd take. It's merely the sign that I am required for the downfall of this blasphemous and hypocritical nation. I have many a talent and am willing to sully my hands for the cause of the Lord of Hell. For the sake of our goals, I am willing to play my part but make no mistake. I have no interest in being reduced to nothing and fighting in an endless war against the Tana'ri as my prize. My end brings me to Achernac and the Black Fortress."

Grell: "I do not care what price I have to pay for revenge and have power to do so personally, so I don't care where my soul ends up so long I get to reduce my enemies to smoking cinders and ash and piss over their remains in the end! Then perhaps chance for restoring my family prosperity and importance as those were goals before I got captured and reason I made pact first place. Did not expect Eiseth's price for it be expose my hidden wickedness in bloodline and get me captured! She have better deals for me in future or else may change patrons! But I admit the powers she granted me are potent and I am without my other resources as well."

OOC: Just assuming I picked 'retainers' option for noble background, that even if relatives wise Grell has no support (and Beth is question mark), Grell has some loyal servants which our Asmodeus presenting patron had acquired back to Grell in discreet manner. Overall retainers role would be minimal risk tasks and information or supplier status.

I feel like I am missing something...why are we rping in the interest thread? LOL I have clearly missed something.

No idea but people make their own fun I guess.

Yeah, own fun while waiting :). As very eager to get started (and hopefully picked).

Eager, eager, eager... :)

It's fun listening to folks and their characters.  I can already get a feel for some of them.  I think that people are eager and capable should alleviate the worries that some have that this might degenerate into a smut-fest.  Not that a smut-fest is a bad thing but they have their time and place :)

I could actually see Patricia keeping the Oath of Conquest and just shifting her allegiance from Mitra to Asmodeus (or maybe Bane...).

Just a little reminder to people that the intent is for this to be primarily a story-driven campaign with some fun, kinky bits on the side. I've had a couple of PMs from concerned applicants considering pulling out as they're afraid this will devolve into an ongoing orgy, getting off-track and being abandoned.
I'm not going to be the
fun police
and tell you you can't do anything, you have no agency, you must stay on rails and go from point A to B and so on, but as I said at the start I'd like this to be long term and enjoyable for everyone involved. So just for now until the players are chosen let's keep any plans of rape and similar to a minimal please. If it's something your character will be into I'm not stopping you from including it on your kinks list as it helps me know what people like so that there's less conflict in that regard when the game actually starts (or creates conflict between characters who might be opposed to how another is behaving leading to delicious tension), but if there are inter-character plans you have at the moment that involve sexual exploits may I ask if you could just for now keep it to PMs?

So far I think all the applications have a lot of potential (hence the myriad of questions earlier looking to dive a little deeper into their sins and hooks) and I'd not like to lose anyone just yet.

Thank you.

Now with the more solemn duties done, on to the new applicants we've had since my original big list of questions;

Hey there - I'm having a little trouble at the moment seeing how this character would be a good fit for the game, especially if there's a reluctance of dealing with deities and devils. Also with the ratfolk race, was the intention to use a reskinned goblin or something else as a base or is it homebrew? I've put you down on the applicants list on the first post (with the crime of Arson since it's the closest on the list) - If you want to work out any kinks or talk over with myself or others in the thread about what Ambrose's goals are or why he would work with Asmodeus worshippers in a long term game I'd be happy to. His trait for experimentation and lackadaisical outlook on casually blowing up an inn also makes him seem rather Chaotic rather than Lawful (though I appreciate the Darkest Dungeon line in your description about the twitch in a mouse's leg)
So! Patricia has few close friends, but what about those she did have? Were they devoted and loyal or did they turn her back on her as soon as she slew the Knight? Speaking of the Knight, you mentioned that he was slain in a fit of rage and jealousy - what was Patricia jealous of? His status, authority, wealth or something else? What caused this rage to finally burst in a fit of blood and how long had she been holding a grudge?
If she was a Paladin of Mitra before, what was her oath? What path was she destined to follow before breaking it (ie, if she were to toe the line, what type of Paladin would she have been?)
Generally when I think of Paladins in 5th Edition I like to think their oath applies from level 1, with the abilities they gain at level 3 being a reward from their patron for upholding their vows rather than only taking their vows at that point, which is why I'm curious about this little bit. In terms of an Oathbreaker at level 1, I'm wondering how far along that path she went before any power and abilities she had accrued before it was snatched away from her forever, forcing her to start from scratch.

Alignment: If you feel he is chaotic I wont argue as we all have our own interpretations on alignment, but if I can not sway you then as a suggestion Perhaps Neutral evil? My view of alignment is essentially this: Lawful = Principled and Chaotic = Unprincipled. Good = Selfless and Evil = Selfish.  A lot of my views on alignments come from looking at alignment systems in other games such as Pelladium's system Dead Reign or Rifts. (Which uses words like: Principled, Unprincipled, Scrupulous, Diabolic.) A video series I highly recommend is Alignment done right by Guildmaster Dan, it blew my mind at how close he got to my views although of coarse, we don't entirely align. (Pun intended haha.) As alignment is a unique unicorn in the mind of every gamer. As it's very nature requires us to view it within the lens of our own unique individual life experience. In essence I will one hundred percent back your call as gm, if you want my rat man in your game and see him as chaotic, then by all means he will be so. However, for a bit of clarity on how I see Ambrose I will send you the GMD video on Lawful Evil. (Please do take notice particularly on the second example in the later half of the video. Since Glados from Portal is one of my inspirations for him as a character.) It is only an 8 minute video and if it doesn't sway anyone's idea of his alignment it does, at the very least, give people an  ample and juicy sweet idea of how I wish to play our scientific friend.

Deities: TLDR: I intended to paint him as a skeptic who reluctantly works with religious figures but hastily painted him as uncooperative without realizing it. If the skepticism and being a cynic about it is a potential problem then I will of coarse pull this back enough so that it makes more sense to the plot. As it did not occur to me this may cause some logical party turmoil out the gate. But will keep said cynicism/skepticism enough as to have the comedy/character personality I intended when conceptually creating Ambrose. :) : "Clearly your sword is masked in some type of fluid that applies a form of combustion upon blood contact! Magical swords that make people catch fire? Don't make me laugh. Hehahehe."  As a character he would just prefer not to suffer the beliefs of the clergy or pretend to care when they rave about their god. If he is in the face of something supernatural, even if it is a deity, he will constantly or if his safety is at risk tentatively denounce it and attempt to find logical reasons behind what happened or what the entity can do.  Essentially he is a total skeptic even in the face of absolute proof. There is no demons and gods, ghosts or vampires. AND NO TOOTH FAIRIES! lol . It was meant to be for humor. Maybe some day a party magic user can convince him their parlor tricks are real.... Maybe. Essentially: He does not believe in fairy tales like gods and devils and he definitely doesn't trust some one who devotes their life to a unseen guy in the clouds or worse, guy's, plural. *Shivers.* And yes if he was ever rewarded a magical wish he would either tell the 'god' or 'Devil to either shove it or give that poppycock to the nearest party member.

Ratfolk: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Ratfolk_(5e_Race) I guess it is homebrew, I gave it a quick google search at first and found that link. It seemed legit at first but upon further investigation the Ratfolk race is not in dnd 5e, or rather not yet at least. I am cool with a reskinned race, it works for what im looking for. The numbers don't matter I am not a power gamer, as long as he is a rat in practice he can be a goblin on paper lol. With that said, perhaps a re skinned Dwarf? Considering Dwarves have sensible almost rat like qualities such as: Darkvision Accustomed to life underground, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray - And, since new rat poisons need to be invented every year against the resilient mother chuckers - Dwarven Resilience: You have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage (explained in the “Combat” section).

OOC Talk: Lol, glad you caught the Darkest Dungeon reference XD .

Reasoning: After being freed, presumably by the Asmodean Priest, he would easily see an alliance as mutually beneficial. Given his forsaken status in particular it wouldn't be very easy for him to move about without the priests. So even though he would not be thrilled, he would accept employment under the Asmodian priests command. He want's to research things, explore, investigate and doing so needs coin. And ample coin goes to those under good employment whom provide good results. It further gives him a chance to stick it to those religious cretins who had the audacity to burn a scar upon the mans arm, in the name of some fictitious entity's espoused justice. Sure he is working for another sect of fools bowing upon an altar of hallucinations and delusion but hey, when science is needing done you overlook the little things. Such as small minded people. In the end, the only thing he hates more then a priest, is a cell.

@Laughing Hyena - Well we certainly wouldn't want to disappoint Tarnath then would we  :-*

@Garuss - A Dwarf seems to be a neat way to get your rat person.  From reading the Guide it seems like we'll be doing a fair bit of social interaction and infiltrating so a goblin might be more difficult to fit around the rest of the party.  I could see a Dwarf who's not so much 'gone bad' as departed from the norms of the traditional dwarven society.

@helvorn Nah because I do love me some paladin corrupting.  So some re-education might be in order.

@Garuss I would suggest "the Rat" being a moniker as well.

ElayneTrakand

Name: Evalin Black
Race/Class: Mark of Making Human Artificer
Sex/Gender: Cis-Female
Kinks: I am alright with any gender although have a slight preference for FxF. I love any bondage things. I am alright with fantastical monster type things but not beastiality with regards to natural things such as bears, dogs, etc. I am however very much down for sex for the cause, such as seducing the guard to escape and the like.
Brief Description: Athletic build from years of crafting. Evalin is considered pretty by most which she used to her advantage in getting good deals in her sales and trade.
What wicked deed made you a criminal?: Fraud. Evalin would use her artificer skills to make a cheap duplicate of a magical item. Then look for a buyer and sell it to them as if it were the real thing. As far as the buyer could tell it was as it functioned as it should. After some enough time had elapsed after a sell that Evalin could get out of dodge the enchantment would wear off leaving the buyer with mundane objects once again.
How were you caught?: Evalin was merely unfortunate that one of the nobles she sold a bag of holding to stumbled across her in a different city trying to sell her wares and was pissed as the bags enchantment failing cost him thousands of gold in uncut gemstones that he was transporting.
Did you have any accomplices?: None
Familiarity With D&D: I am very familiar with 5e but that is it.
How Often Do You Elliquiy?: I am on every other day or so and will always get on if you PM me.
A&A's

@Hyena + Helvorn: Well I think by reskinned she meant the character is fine as a ratman, just use an official races stats as opposed to doing something homebrewed. I could be wrong but that was my impression Of Reskinned.

Elayne: Fraud ay? Lol hi, im an arsonist :p . I like Artficers, my third ever character was one.

Ooh, this looks interesting enough that I'd be remiss in not at least making the attempt.

Let's go with... not a dedicated servant of Evil or a practitioner of dark arts or even a major threat to the Realm, just a lad who wanted to get by and made some bad decisions and absolutely, devastatingly, gobsmackingly fucked it all up and now has the devil's choice to either burn it all or die. Non-sexual (and maybe a little sexual) corruption will be our major theme here, I think. And maybe the presence of a relative innocent (not that the lad is innocent) will help him be a contrast to the others.

Name: Sigmund Gray
Race/Class: Human Fighter
Sex/Gender: Cismale
Kinks: Okay, I won't deny having a raging monstergirl fetish, but that's not what was asked! M/F only, and in this particular case, hm... really bad decisions? Really bad decisions. Really, really bad decisions. Risky sex, corruption, and some even worse decisions.
Brief Description: Not a knight, or a lord, or anyone particularly important, Sigmund is the quintessential soldier more interested in avoiding work and thinking with the wrong head than stepping up and defending the kingdom. Not to the point of actual dereliction of duty, mind - at least not until the fateful night. And now he's stuck, and will either hang together with this crew of miscreants and low-lives or just, well, hang. He's got a powerful build to him (being work-shy and realizing that ladies like a man in good shape went to war, and ladies won out) and long dark hair and eyes.
What wicked deed made you a criminal?: Desertion. A better soldier would have smelled the trap, but when a scantily clad camp follower with skin like silk tried to seduce him away from his post he didn't look before he leapt. As he was supposed to be the bodyguard of a well-loved cleric of Mithra, and that same cleric turned up dead by an assassin's blade with him nowhere to be found, the kingdom decided to set a very harsh example.
How were you caught?: It was pretty easy. Passed out in bed five miles away from the battle, and then when woken confessed easily, trying to explain that it was a harmless misunderstanding. No criminal mastermind, this one.
Did you have any accomplices?: Yes! A devastatingly beautiful lady probably in league with an assassin who surely will in no way become important later.
Familiarity With D&D: I still remember THAC0 and what it stands for, so... a bit.
How Often Do You Elliquiy?: I try to go every other day or so. It's easier when there's more to play off, but I struggle with blocks sometimes.

Magic Item Wishlist: Combat upgrades are lovely, of course, but I have a burning love for utility items. Decanters of Endless Water? Alchemy Jugs? Feather tokens? Potions of Liquid Form? Sign me up!

Quote from: Ershin on November 22, 2019, 07:02:26 PMJuliana is certainly ambitious and this brings to mind how many of her accomplices pointed the finger at her and stated she misled them. I can't help but wonder at her reaction to that - Or perhaps how well trained they were by her influence and what punishments each individual received as a result. In terms of a new order, how would she feel being relegated as number two or if there were multiples of the same position sharing the second rung of the ladder?

Oh, I'm sure Juliana is wondering about that exact same thing herself quite a bit! No doubt all she has been told of whatever became of her accomplishes has been in the vein of "all your friends sold you out, no one is with you"... which may well be true! Juliana will definitely want to find out the truth, and if in fact her accomplices were happy to point the finger at her to get away with a less severe punishment themselves... well, Juliana will show no mercy to those~

Juliana is ambitious to a fault for sure, but she sees it as a matter of necessity: there simply doesn't seem to be anyone intelligent and powerful enough to hold the torch, other than herself. Really, she's making a sacrifice, willingly spending the rest of her life leading the clueless masses. If she did encounter someone who she deemed her superior and who held the same beliefs as her, she would see no problem in pledging her loyalty to that person or entity. She just has never yet seen anyone like that, and has cast away all hope such a person could even exist!

That said, Juliana's also quite Machiavellian in her schemes. She would quite gladly hide in the shadows behind a puppet leader, as long as she knows she's actually pulling the strings behind the scenes. That might be her most natural position, really; she's a schemer, not a figurehead, unless she must be. If she ends up in a group of strong egos and strong personalities, for example, she would happily take a back seat if prompted... as long as she can actually affect every and all decisions, whether the others realize what's happening or not...!

Name: Imrae Naerth
Race/Class: Drow Fighter (Multi-class intended: Assassin Rogue and Deep Stalker Ranger)
Sex/Gender: Futa/Shemale
Kinks: Strong preference for humanoid females, monstrous females are on a case by case basis; anal, oral, rough sex, non-con (if she’s doing it, not so much having it done to her, and it usually needs to have a purpose). Nearly always dominant, except in special circumstances.
Brief Description: Imrae is tall for a drow, coming in at just under 5’8”. Medium charcoal colored skin and pale white hair practically scream what she is and where she comes from. A lithe yet strong frame displays more physical training than magical. A follower of Lolth and a believer of drow ideals, Imrae believes all other races are inferior, though that won’t stop her from working with them to reach a goal, so long as they know their place.
What wicked deed made you a criminal?: In most places, simply being Drow is enough. In this case, it was that plus murder, kidnapping, slave trading, torture, assault and raiding. Basically...being a drow. Ultimately, it was Slave Trading that got her caught.
How were you caught?: A human slave trader sold her out during a buy in order to stay out of prison. She didn’t go quietly.
Did you have any accomplices?: Her older sister and younger brother. They were separated during the attack. Assumed to have escaped back to the Underdark.
Familiarity With D&D: I played 2nd and 3rd edition, though I skipped 4th. Played a lot of 5th.
How Often Do You Elliquiy?: I show up at least once a day, though posting rate varies on a number of factors.

Magic Items: Nothing specific comes to mind, though utility items are always fun. Also, anything to increase the success chance of the nova round is welcome.
