I would like to try out the system of the D&D and I would like to ask if you know a group where I could join?

D.O.V.A aka Dungeon Overlords vs Adventurers is always looking for new people for an adventure. We have DMs and players so its all good. Mind the lewdness and you got a good game for a beginning player. Im already working with one such so.... yeah I can take on another. ^_^

Lewdness never bothered me. But how I get started in making my character and it's stats?

Do you have the 5e PHB?

If not I can summarize. First I need you to roll 4d6 and "drop the lowest" method six times. In elliquiy's dice roller put 4 dice, 6 sides, and keep 3. Then roll six times and copy the url on each via rolls made. Then you pick race (occasionally sub race as well), class and background as thats also a new thing of 5e.

Unfortunately, I don't have the PHB.

CrystalPaladin

The stats are Strenght, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and charisma, right?

Can others see my rolls?
"If you are happy, clap your hands"

Laughing Hyena

Indeed, yes, I can see your rolls. Its there in the roll log. Anyway what you want is to roll six times.

Then in substitution of the PHB, Roll20 will work as a good SRD for you to help build your character. It won't give you access to everything but it will get you off the ground.

From the classes the Monk, the Barbarian and the Wizard interest me.
From species I would roll with Dragonborn, but I am not sure if I can make one with chaotic good alignment.

You certainly can. Dragonborn can be whatever alignment they want and as diverse as their chromatic and metallic looks. As for spells and magic I recommend DnD beyond as your best bet for the recent edition of magic spells. Wizards work differently than in other editions in that they have cantrips at will though only know four. Other than that they are typically the same.

Choose wisely your class.

CrystalPaladin

There are many schools gor the wizard. Can I choose only one or can I choose my spells from different schools?

Ah you're talking about the subclass trees for the wizard. Unlike other edition specialization does not limit your spell selection. In fact its mandatory for your class progression and merely helps give your chosen spell school boons when casting.

CrystalPaladin

The wizards seems difficult. I would stay with the Monk then

Laughing Hyena

Very well. Then Dragonborn Monk. As for backstories, did you look at DnD Beyond for backgrounds?

I did not do that yet

Alright then. Now then, let's talk backgrounds. As a monk the best two background would probably be acolyte or sage which represent your time spent becoming enlightened as a monk.

Acolyte gives you proficiency to Insight and Religion, gain 15 gp and a holy symbol, 5 sticks of incense, prayer book or prayer wheel, vestments and a set of common clothes. Also you are welcome in other temples to your order and can get allies of yours free healing (though you must provide the material components for said spells.) You can also call a favor from your order so long as it is not hazardous in nature and you are in good standing.

A Sage however gains proficiency in Arcana and History alongside two extra languages. You also gain a question from a dead colleague kept on a letter that you have yet to answer, ink and quill, small knife, set of common clothes and 10 gp

CrystalPaladin

Both sounds good
Acolyte is a more fitting one to the monk, but in this case the alignment wouldn't fit so well.
A sage is not so fitting to the Monk, but it is more fitting for the alignment and the species.
Is gp is the money value in D&D?

CrystalPaladin

I thought a little bit, and I choose acolyte.

Alright then. Now then, you should be done save for equipment. If you followed the roll20 source material I provided you should already have that sorted out. You have your proficiencies and such and now you need to submit your sheet, to the Pending Approval thread in D.O.V.A. in the proper threads. And before I forget at 1st level you have max hp + con so no worries about rolling for hp.

Heres the Pending Approval thread. - https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=303346.0

How describtive I must be with the background story

As descriptive or as vague as you wish. This is a multiverse kind of setting so you could be from Mystara, Krynn, Faerun or such or be vague and leave it up to improvisation.

CrystalPaladin

So, I chose Acolyte. What religions are there in your D&D place?

There are multiple DMs and like I said any of the canon universes is a viable selection since said campaign has multiple prime material planes. aka multiverse.

But a safe bet for monks and their lawfulness ways is Helm or Torm.

CrystalPaladin

I begin to check the background story of the approved players and everyone made atleast a medium-lenght one. I planned to write one like that, but I barely know this whole world.
Anyway, I would like to ask where the non-approved characters go?
"If you are happy, clap your hands"

Laughing Hyena

Like I said, the campaign worlds such as greyhawk and forgotten realm are viable options. Your character could come from those worlds. But I have a small world I am making and he could hail from the budding providences of Kingshearth. A town that adventurers flock to in order to explore the nearby ruins of a magocracy for fame and fortune.

But basically the Final Bastion is basically a tavern and inn where all prime material worlds connect to. Think of it as Sigil but as a tavern. All kinds of adventurers flock to it to try and best the overlords dungeons.

None approved characters are placed in the Overlords and Adventurers Pending Approval thread. Down here.

CrystalPaladin

I check the Dragonborn names at D&D beyond, but I can't find the first names, but clan names.
What name should I use for a first name?
