The elf and the hacker (F for Any)

Hello everyone!

So, I managed to royally screw up a story idea I loved not once but twice. I blame the first time on inexperience, and while the second time was way fun while it lasted... I managed to make a big blunder by trying to rush it. Hopefully I'm better about it by now. But still, the second version had a dynamic I loved. Well, here's hoping third time is indeed the charm.

Theories of quantum physics talk about parallel universe. But parallel universes actually exist. One such universe is home to people living with a medieval technology, but having access to magic. Some of these people are close to but not quite humans: elves, goblins, dwarves... And that universe leaked into Earth. A relatively normal priestess of Sehanine (MC) somehow woke up somewhere in the United States of America, 2022 (I had the idea of dropping in Detroit, since it's the perfect city for an elven vigilante... But if you want another city feel free.) It was... A confusing place. Metal horseless carriages that emit fumes that make one want to puke, roads covered in asphalt, confusing lights, noises...

All in all, Soveliss would somehow meet a highly talented computer geek, as she started her career as a vigilante, fighting... Well, a shady magic using PMC? A crime syndicate lead by a Mind Flayer? Maybe something smaller, a militia bent on killing the non-humans? The computer expert would assist her with drones and maybe with some computer golem Soveliss would carry that allows them to hack things with his mind as long as she fixes it to the stuff she wants them to hack, while she uses her fighting savvy and magical powers to cut down her opponents? With a side order of romance with the tech guy/gal, and of comedy as Soveliss has to figure out modern stuff, the hard way sometimes...

What kinds of abilities does the elf have?

The usual stuff for a D&D elven priestess. Very good eyesight, hearing, Excellent night vision (not to the point of seeing in complete darkness, but a full moon's more than enough for her), very good physical fitness (at least compared to modern humans with their couch potato lifestyle), good stealth (Agility helps with being stealthy), extremely good reflexes, healing spells, a few defensive spells, good swordplay and archery skills and decent wilderness survival skills (enough to know whether the beasts circling around her are angry at her because she invaded their territory, or are hungry and considering attacking her despite the fact that she's well armed and armored, or if they're wary because she's getting too close to their young, and how to respond to each possibility). She would have, of course, 0 clue about modern electronic tech, and she would fall prey to a huge culture shock, and she may be a bit too willing to get in trouble for people she barely met without pausing to consider if she's outmatched or not, and any time tech she is unfamiliar with is introduced, she's in for a curve ball. First it's guns that can fire multiple times before reloading, then it's gun that can fire full auto, then it's tasers then it's armored cars, then it's tear gas/flashbang grenades, then it's concussion/frag grenades, then it's mouseholing... The first time for each of these problems she'd be caught off guard and acquire new scars, but sh'd be able to learn...

I see. And what is the hacker's role in all of this? Also, does it have to be a hacker? Could it also be someone playing around with magic from a metaphysical shop down the street from his home? Could it be a dreamer who is in and of himself a gate and key to multiple realities?

I kinda like the dynamics of one person is the tech expert whom gives support from a safe place, one who goes in battle but is far from great at tech. In the modern world, someone dealing with computers can easily provide support from a safe place. Computers and smartphones and other electronic gadgets are more or less omnipresent in our world. The role of the hacker would be hacking computers, building things like tracking bugs, hidden cameras/microphones out of spare parts, accessing the camera network once Soveliss has physical access to a security computer, find a way to upload spyware on enemy cellphones so that Sovliss can know where something serious is going down... Soveliss, since she comes from a medieval world, would be great at many field tasks but tech illiterate. Each member of this pair brings unique and important knowledge that doesn't make them redundant but complimentary.

Well, that makes sense. Sadly, I don't think I have the writing chops necessary to play a hacker character. Good luck. Hope someone can step into that role soon.

I would love to play the hacker for this RP. I really like the idea, especially the hacker using drones to help. Would the hacker be allowed to have more then one drone? Letting the character come up  with better ones as personality changes or specialty roles? I have several ideas how the hacker would be.

I know I am new but if your willing to give.me a chanceI I have been really excited for this idea. I was happy to get approved so fast to have a chance to play this. If you do not want to have  me fill the hacker role, could I have permission from you to use this idea later for my own thread?

Thank you for taking an interest in my story.

So, as for your questions... More than one drone? Why not! I mean civilian drones are not that hard to get, or build really if you're the kind of person who builds electronic stuff on a regular basis. I'm sure I could buy a camera drone over the Internet if I had any use for it. And parts for drones are probably not that hard to find... Now, building more specialized drones requires unusual parts and skills, but should be possible. I'm sure you have ideas for drones...

So I'm more than okay to give you a chance, as long as you're okay with an action/comedy/romance hybrid. Speaking of the "action" part, I would like to know what you would be okay with. I mean do we gloss over or at least be vague about what actually happens to the bodies ("the shotgun shell really messed that guy up"), or do we go for a full grizzly description of injuries, or something in-between?

Was thinking for the drones it would start with off the shelf things. Like a camera drone. Or even a RC plane/helicopter. Then over time he will use experience and things we gather from the missions to add to them. Maybe a larger RC helicopter mixed with drone parts so it can carry light supplies or even a small pistol for back up. If the RP went long term I see the hacker asking you to bring back to our base parts you find as you infiltrate the enemy bases. You mention things like higher tech. Lasers, palm readers, etc. Likely as we was successful with priest and drone combo the enemies would try to emulate it as well. Giving access to higher tech. Mostly cosmetic and support. For example a modified Aibo that you can plug into a computer to let him hack through. Not expecting a full laser cannon harrier jet drone. But a larger 1/8th model helicopter that can drop a couple smoke grenades or carry a Glock is more along what i had in mind. Even that would be if we went to deep into the enemy base or going after the BBEG.

As for Gore and descriptions. I like the detail and think it would add to it.  A little grizzly would be fine. Lets not go full on slasher flick though. Or at least not for every single moment. I am a fan of things like DeadPool, Elfen Lied and Berzerker. So gore is not a turn off. I just want it to be so much a focus that it takes away from the story.

My father and I did some RC stuff when i was young. So for a more realistic feel. The hacker could operate out of a van or truck. The range of drones are fairly limited. Even if you use high end competitive RC racing receivers and controls its still limited in yards of range. Plus could double as a place for you to hang up your equipment etc. Not to mention the hacker introducing you to a van would be highly entertaining. Also something else that as it progresses we could upgrade into something more fancy with our spoils of war. I like to show story progression in things like that by also showing progression with how we operate. So at first its a car with tinted windows we can barely fit. Then an old van. Then eventually a box truck that we could customize. Not something to go super crazy with. Just something more tangible to reflect our success. Or failure by losing said asset.

Alright, due to my partner going MIA, I am reopening that request. You know who you are, and if you come back I'll be happy to play with you, you seemed real nice and fun for what little I got to interact with you.

I had an idea I really liked since it mixes the paranormal and the mundane, and requires people experienced with both to truly fight: a drug ring selling incubi/succubi fluids (addictive, euphoria inducing, and aphrodisiac, but to tech analysis its just normal human milk/semen/vaginal fluid. Still illegal because while it's not a drug (or at least it doesn't registers as one on tests)  it violates food health and safety regulations, but not quite as illegal as drugs despite being more dangerous. The dealers/smugglers make truckloads of money for less risks, and the incubi/succubi have people addicted to their fluids much more effectively than just seducing them, so they have slaves and accomplices whenever they want to make their moves, it's an unholy match made in hell, as it involves both paranormal things and mundane trafficking/smuggling.).

Well, I am once again bumping that request. Though superstitious people beware: As this is the second iteration of that story that dropped dead in it's tracks due to my RP partner going MIA under mysterious circumstances, that RP might actually be cursed. Or cognitohazardous. I swear I'm not part of AWCY, honest! You have been warned.

Still here? Well in that case I still think that the drug trade and incubus/succubus sexual fluids make a decent hybrid.
