The State of New York is suing ICE, who have a habit of arresting immigrants (real and suspected) outside of court houses without a judicial warrant.

This tactic has the effect of preventing people who'd be targeted by ICE from feeling safe enough to safeguard their rights when visiting court, as well as interfering with the process of court procedures in general.

ICE moved 700 women out of a detention and are refusing to tell lawyers where they are. Quite rich coming from the agency which claims to fight against human trafficking.

The largest public pension fund in the US, CalPERS, is pulling financial backing from GEO Group and CoreCivic who both heavily fund ICE camps.

A small Lousiana mill town is using prisoners of ICE being bused in to fill the cells of local jails. The main reason is that jail employees get paid more based on the number of people they have in custody.

When an undocumented immigrant took refuge in a church, ICE fined her for half a million dollars. As of today they withdrew the fine. She is still taking refuge in the church, however.

At least some of the students were in the US already, but were at universities that had 'lost accreditation'.  These were people that had come to the US, and had begun the process of getting an education, but were now desperate to keep their student visas current so that they could finish the process.  They were lured to the fake school (which had been listed on the DHS site as 'accredited'), which then invalidated their visas.

They were lied to so that they didn't end up finding a real university to continue their studies, and now (since they were deported) may be unable to ever return to the US.

A bombshell report just came out by the Department of Homeland Security's Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. It more or less officially confirms that the agency's sheer negligence lead to the deaths of people in their custody, including children. This was due to an internal complaint from a whistleblower inside ICE.

A group of doctors and psychologists expressed that the family separations are a form of torture due to psychological harm inflicted on parents and children.

A motel chain was forced to pay $10 million in damages for sharing information about its guests with ICE.

Greyhound is declaring that they will not consent to warrantless searches of any place that requires a ticket.

This includes buses, and the areas of stations that are beyond the ticket gate.

ICE is unsurprisingly negligent in regards to containing the spread of the coronavirus among those detained. They refused to grant masks to prisoners unless they signed a waver absolving their funding corporations of liability should they die from the virus. This requirement was lifted after many detainees refused to sign.

HSI ICE Agents during an investigation of a group for trafficking women(Separate from consensual sex work) paid for the women they were supposed to be helping to have sex with them using tax payer money and indeed had sex, which was under coercion and as such was non-consensual. This on top of being morally repugnant also destroyed the case allowing the people they were trying to arrest for human trafficking to escape arrest. It should be mentioned this is standard protocol at ICE/HSI. And that the agents in question were officially authorized to do this according to internal documents. ICE needs to be abolished.

I didn't know whether or not this would serve better in the general news or the Riot thread, but figured that keeping this as the all in one source for ICE is good.

Even though it's not in line with their normal duties, ICE as well as CBP has been deployed to various protest locations in the event that any protesters are undocumented.

A former high-ranking ICE officer pointed out that this is being done more for intimidation purposes than competence, as ICE is not trained in riot control.

But the display of force seen this week has been shocking, said Peter Vincent, who worked as a chief counsel for the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement during the Obama administration.

"This is not the job of the men and women of ICE or CBP, this is not what they are trained to do, and this is not how their enforcement authorities should be deployed," Vincent said. "Indeed, these actions are specifically intended to intimidate and chill Americans into remaining silent in the face of obscene injustices."

Crossposting from the Coronavirus thread, but the New York Times released a hard-hitting video involving investigation showing how ICE's structure exacerbated the global spread of the virus, failing to comply with CDC regulations in minimizing this.

This was conducted from investigations and interviews from immigrants and airport staff around the world in addition to domestic flights. ICE also contracts work within certain airline companies to help them move prisoners about domestically, so there's also blame to be had among said industry.

This is news from the beginning of this year, but I missed it and it's pertinent to post given the last bout of news.

The captain of an ICE detention center posted regularly on a Neo-Nazi website, making various bigoted comments.

Although he's been placed on administrative leave as a result, there's less and less plausible deniability regarding the organization's white supremacist influences and alliances, from the rank and file all the way up to the top.

I take it there are political reasons for that? I'm sitting here across a wide ocean bemused why it DOESN'T get shut down right now and a whole slew of people charged with dozens of crimes. How can a nation sit there and let this monster sustain itself?
