Yes, Artificer is allowed, and does have proficiency with muskets. If you're proficient, you may start with a musket.

Ooh, okay, yeah! I think that's what I'll do.

Would that be the standard musket from D&D, or the Exandria from the Gunslinger material?

I think the biggest difference is the standard musket has shorter range, while the Exandria musket has a misfire mechanic.

My ideas for the rest of the character are starting to come together, so I'll work on getting one of those sheets written up.
O/O: I was going to make a barebones F-list as a rough summary, but then it logged me out and I lost my progress, so I made a VERY barebones F-list instead: Here.

RedPhoenix

Thank you for taking the time to explain, Dhi. You are right I was off and going for more of a psychological horror than an erotic horror. I'm going to take another stab at it. Tell me if this is any better:

Dark Desires:

- Jacqueline's family is notorious for their horrible tempers and incestuous predilections, so much so that Jacqueline has been instructed by her mother in how to sexually soothe an angry relative. When she gets afraid she falls into believing that anything sufficiently threatening must be some sort of distant relative that she can win over by being accommodating enough and using the tricks she was taught to get angry relatives to calm down - almost all of them overtly sexual  involving offering up a playful fun time with herself in order to divert attention from the ruckus being caused so that family affairs can run more smoothly. And if they get a little rough with her? Well, that's the idea isn't it? Take it out on the daughter so that mommy's card game doesn't get interrupted.

- Jacqueline's family has long practiced a form of "battlefield discipline" of a very peculiar nature. In the great wars of yesteryear, her family, when losing a battle, would spank (not flog, spank) a disobedient solider in the midst of the fray. The mantra was if one could not handle this, they were not fit for service, and any who were so soft that they couldn't beat and make sexual use of their lessers with arrows flying about their head didn't deserve the name de Fronsac. Her family histories are filled with examples of a soldier being treated this way rushing back into battle and winning the day.  One cannot question centuries of results. Jacqueline is just a novice at the technique, is just as likely to employ the method on others as she is to fall to pieces and beg to be spanked herself so that she can focus and think clearly.

- Jacqueline is very paranoid about being stolen from, and is convinced everything she's ever misplaced was in fact taken by a thief. At the wrong moments she can become convinced that anyone is in fact the very one who is hiding away a piece of jewelry she hasn't seen in years and exercise her right as a noblewoman to arrest, tie up, strip search, and interrogate any who she believes has stolen from her or her family. This can also manifest itself as Jacqueline thinking any item she sees is her stolen property, badly misjudging a very powerful threat for a common thief, or thinking that her missing ring is just around the corner leading to certain doom.

Hahahah!!
Number 2 for Aloisa!!

Breathplay of sorts... When paniced she can start to hyperventilate, rasping loudly, and panting... When real paniced and fearful of getting caught she covers her mouth and nose or forces herself to hold her breath, to the point of even passing out, the endorphin rush helping her "calm down"..

Guess where i got that idea from Dhi... ;3
That's a good one!

I'm not familiar with Exandria. We'll be using the DMG musket, no misfire chance.

Dhi

Red, those are great, much appreciated.

The reasons I want madness to have an erotic element are twofold. The first is that this is an erotic game and I want to enable smut, that's easy.

The other is that Ravenloft's fear and horror checks, although they do a pretty good job of emulating horror by making characters crack under pressure and further imperil themselves, they do so at the cost of taking away player control. It's my hope that the dark desires will instead give you options for having fun with a character's breakdowns.

All this talk of erotic horror is making me want to run Bluebeard's Bride...

Name:  Danae Vine-Lott

Race: Human (Mordent)

Age: 31

Class: Warrior 3 (Gunslinger)

Short Description:

Born to good and socially ambitious yeoman stock in the town of Crawford, Danae was swiftly packed off to board at a girls' boarding school near Waterford. The experience proved miserable: the halls were cold, the discipline was cruel and unceasing, and the food repellent.  She did, however, show a preternatural talent for horsemanship and fencing, such that she would eventually persuade her family to buy her a commission in the Mordent's Household Guards.  She joined as a Second Lieutenant, and was promoted to full Lieutenant following dashing gallantry in charging a goblin raiding party that had strayed into Mordentshire. By then, she was betrothed to Abigail Sexton, daughter of a prominent Sentire of the Church of Ezra.  The Mordentish Pure Hearts sect is quietist and agnostic on matters of sexuality, but the marriage did cause scandal among the decaying remnants of the local aristocracy.  Still, few would begrudge a decorated veteran her due, though the union remained the subject of feverish conjecture and whispers in the parlours of county squires.  Now with a cottage and a large plot of passable grazing land in the Great Moor, Danae is financially independent and superficially a pillar of local society - diligent soldier, devout member of the Church of Ezra, and with a moderately prosperous household with a few farmhands and domestics.

Tall, long-limbed, her physique forged and hardened by constant equitation and military drills, she has the commanding bearing of a career officer. Even when off duty, she prefers military cuts: white jodhpurs with matching riding shirt, and silver embroidered woolen waistcoat and jacket.  She carries her cavalry sabre with her at all times as a symbol of her rank.

Dark Desires:

Danae leads a double life. Her wife is petty and materialistic, and fixated with improving her social status.  Danae is unable to resist temptation of the flesh, especially when her preferred type of buxom, down-to-earth country lasses are on offer.  Long known to tavern-girls and farmer's daughters the length and breadth of Mordent while on campaign, Danae is serially unfaithful and genuinely prefers the company of women from the humbler classes. Her infidelity consumes her with guilt, and fills her with anxiety on the destination of her immortal soul.  Fuelled by her sense of persecution at the hands of village gossips, she has begun to suspect all of her mistresses to be witches or succubi, sent by Ezra to tempt her.  When she discovered strange runes written in what appeared to be lamb's blood in the room of her housemaid, Polly, her latest clandestine relationship, she became convinced of witchcraft was abroad in her household.  The girl, of course, received a beating courtesy of Danae's riding crop, but the look of ecstasy on her face betrayed the true nature of a corrupted soul.  They were all hell-bound.  She finally snapped on a cold winter solstice day, discharging five bullets from her pistol into an aged cart-horse she thought was leading the Wild Hunt.  Eager to avoid a scandal, her Colonel ordered her to take leave to recover in "more salubrious surroundings".

Compounding her mounting spiritual and moral crisis, Danae is addicted to opium. She first started taking anodynes of resin dissolved in gin when she received a bullet wound to her side on campaign (she is still proud of the scar).  Her habit is controlled, for now - though it has begun to cause hallucinations, which she interprets as demonic temptation or divine persecution.  When under pressure, however, she tends to relapse and use liberally.

Danae was both fascinated and repelled by the physical discipline she received at boarding school. She is convinced that pain is a trial for the body to purify the soul.  She actively seeks punishment from her lovers - and inflicts, it too - believing this to be a moral balance for her transgressions.

Why board the Charlotte:

Danae has been ordered to take a leave of absence. Dementlieu is well known in Mordent as a den of libertinism, but the climate is infinitely better than Mordent's constant cold and damp, and it was the firm belief of her superiors that the sea air would do her well. She bought her passage to recuperate and gather her thoughts, though she is certain it will be impossible to leave her past and years of accumulated guilt behind.  Whatever assails her in her waking dreams will doubtless follow her.

Dark Desires:
Exhibitionism: Deep down, Félise wants others to know how good she is at what she does... whatever it is she's doing. After all, what's the point of all the practice if you never get to show off? Lifting the ring off a noble's finger mid-conversation is a certain thrill, as does bringing that same person to a shuddering orgasm in a barely-concealed corner...

Morbid Fascinations: Through her young life, Jaunette saw death fairly constantly. Her parents, her friends, a constant parade of visitors to the gallows. That left a mark, though repressed. Faced with the horror of death, Jaunette might have one of two reactions; one, a sort of fascination, where she wants to know more about the deceased, seek a memento mori, or the like; alternately, it may manifest as a rejection of what she's encountered, and seeking out some life-affirming / death-defying experience. Either way, she's likely to regress to her true personality, forgetting her false persona.

Wardrobe Envy: It's not just the wealth provided by jewels that captures Félise's attention. It's the prestige and position that they represent. other articles of clothing carry the same prestige, and while she has presence of mind enough to not be making off with undergarments and full dresses and whatnot, well, under stress, maybe you need that hat to hide under, and a nice pair of garters to hide something else in, and, oh, that's cashmere isn't it...
Exhibitionism and fascination are good compulsions, but what makes the fascination erotic? I'm not sure how Wardrobe Envy gets to erotic from a horrific situation either, or how it would play out. I can see stealing clothes as a mad compulsion, but not quite as horror material. I strikes me as more irreverent, which is not a great mix for Ravenloft.

Caving to temptation, acting on sadomasochism and pleasure drug use are all great. Opium hallucinations may see more general use since the others require specific interactions.

Name: Elodie d'Estienne

Race: Human

Class: Bard (College of Glamour)

Short Description: Elodie d'Estienne is the only child of the wealthy and renowned noble family of Estienne in Dementlieu. She was always a charming, beautiful and well-mannered child. As the sole heiress to the family's fortune, she always had the absolute best in education, grooming and lifestyle; but also the absolute most in expectations and responsibilities. It was hammered to Elodie from a small age that she needed to be everyhing expected of the future Baroness of Estienne, and more.

As such, Elodie grew up a quiet and shy girl, one who shunned social events and large parties and preferred to spend as much time on her own as possible. This changed when Elodie turned twelve, and dancing classes were added to Elodie's education. Her dancing tutor was a half-elven woman who looked to have a bit of Vistani blood in her.

Her tutor was kind, very capable at her job, and very perceptive at Elodie's talents. She noticed immediately how incredibly talented Elodie was at dancing. One day after dance classes, the tutor told Elodie in private how she felt: the rigid, simple ballroom dances she was teaching Elodie were way beneath her abilities... and she could teach Elodie something completely different, and far more exciting.

Elodie's parents would never have approved, so in her first and only act of teenage rebellion, Elodie started sneaking out at night to the servant wing, where her dance tutor would teach her a whole new style of dancing. When Elodie performed this new, Vistani-inspired, exotic, sensual dance, she became like a new person. It awoke strange powers in Elodie and taught her how to use arcane magic; a power she had had inside her all these years, but was only now starting to understand its utility.

But the most drastic change happened in her personality. When Elodie was performing, she was no longer the shy, quiet, introverted, well-behaved noble girl: she was enthralling, charismatic, confident. While in her day life Elodie shunned attention, while dancing, she craved it.

Elodie had no desire to leave her noble life, but she knew she couldn't live without this new performer's life, either. She needed to dance, she needed to perform; and not only by herself, but in front of an audience. She obviously couldn't perform in town - her parents would forbid it in an instant. So, when Elodie came of age, she started frequenting luxury cruises: something her parents didn't exactly love, but at least they understood it as something any young, rich heiress would want to do. If anything, they were happy to see their introverted daughter mingling with other nobles of her age.

Unknown to them, of course, Elodie wasn't going on these cruises as a guest. On board, she became Melody, the admired and beloved dancer and performer. On these cruises, Elodie -- or Melody -- was happier than ever on land.

Dark Desires: Elodie is a girl of two separate personalities. When she's playing a part of the well-behaved noble girl, she's very shy and introverted, reluctant to speak her mind and definitely wanting to avoid any attention. When she's dancing and performing, she's the complete opposite: she exudes charisma and confidence, and craves the spotlight and attention more than anything. This attention and near sexual excitement it brings her is almost like a drug; it feeds her confidence, and without her confidence, she is quick to curl up into her shy noble girl shell. When Elodie feels extremely uncertain and fearful, she'll do anything to get everyone's eyes on her, possibly succumbing to acts of extreme exhibitionism.

Elodie's dancing style is very sensual and enticing. In her years of training, she has developed an extremely strong affinity to her body, and especially her sense of touch: Elodie finds touch just as important as vision or smell. Elodie finds herself constantly wondering what all kinds of strange things would feel brushed against her bare cheeks, belly, thighs, breasts, crotch, even inside her... when Elodie in confronted with things she can't comprehend, she has a very strong urge to touch it with every single part of her body in order to fully understand it.

Elodie has lived a very sheltered life that has left her sexually extremely repressed. While she has become quite adept at faking it and exterting confidence when dancing, deep down she really wants someone to take full control, utterly dominate her and do with her whatever they want. In a twisted way, she feels more at ease when she has already lost all control of the situation; so in a stressful situation, she has to fight a strong impulse to willfully give up that control and actually render herself helpless. This may manifest in willfully tying herself up or otherwise lewdly presenting herself and making herself helpless, succumbing to others' will with no way of fighting back.

Why board the Charlotte? Elodie has been regularly attending luxury cruises for a few months, performing as a dancer and entertainer under the stage name 'Melody'. She'll probably have gained some renown by now with her beautiful, young looks, and enthralling and sensual performances.

Expected Posting Rate: 1-3 longer, well-thought posts (depending on the week), as well as shorter posts probably every other day, if not daily.

Name: Lieselotte Lablanche

Race: Human

Class: Cleric (Light)

Short Description:The middle daughter of a noble family in Dementilieu, Lieselotte is deeply pious, and escaped an arranged marriage by devoting herself to the Church of Ezra.  Devoted to the strict lawful codes of the church, she is genuinely kind and caring; she is however conscious of the fact of her own shortcomings, and failures to perfectly uphold the church's teachings in her heart and mind, if not in deeds - her temptations to vanity, to ease and comfort, and darker desires that she is horrified to admit to herself.  Her service to the church is constantly weighed by her spiraling sense of guilt and need for penance.

Dark Desires:
Forced Fantasy: Sexually repressed, particularly repressing her attraction to other women which is frowned upon by high society and the church.  Her daydreams involve being taken non-consensually, as much as the thought terrifies her, she indulges in it as a perverse justification for being involved in an sexual act.  In a situation where she is being forced, coerced or threatened, or even simply the commanding tone of an authority figure, Lieselotte may put up a show of a fight to no avail.

Bondage/Masochism: The penitent should submit to punishment, and Lieselotte finds a strange sense of comfort in the thought of being made helpless and be cleansed by pain inflicted upon her.

  • Degradation/Humiliation: If she snaps, Lieselotte's penance could devolve into seeking public humiliation, or even inflicting the humiliation on herself.

Why board the Charlotte?  She signed on as a chaplain to the noble passengers.  The intentions at the front of her mind are virtuous; in the back of her mind, harboring perhaps less virtuous hopes.

Expected Posting Rate: Likely two longer posts per week; more when shorter posts are in demand to move the action along.

Name: Lady Violette Ampère

Race: Human

Class: Artificer 3 (Artillerist)

Short Description: Violette is the youngest daughter of Vicomte and Vicomtesse Ampère, a family that was raised to Dementlieu nobility only a few generations ago, following their meteoric success as a merchant house and accumulation of great wealth in one of Dementlieu's colonies. As the youngest child, Violette had very little responsibility towards the house's finances nor its politics, and even marriage was an afterthought, so she was free to pursue whatever occupation she found diverting.

That occupation turned out to be natural philosophy. The nascent science of electricity fascinated her, and there was no doubt in her mind that it could be harnessed to do great things. Not only might it be instrumental in defending Dementlieu from its enemies, but there was potential for all manner of inventions that would benefit the common folk. It is these potential applications for the common good, not merely curiosity, that drives Violette in her research and experimentation.

Violette dresses in a style reminiscent of her colonial heritage, subject to the constraints of Dementlieu fashion. Her dresses are cleverly fashioned to allow her to blend them with belts and sashes that hold her books and scientific paraphernalia without ruining their elegant appearance. Her most prized possession is a wand that she crafted from copper, gold and glass, and has imbued with all the magical power she can muster.

Dark Desires:
  • Masturbation: Violette has had successful if short-lived relationships with a few women, and has enjoyed the intimate company of men once or twice, but nobody understands her sexual needs better than herself. Masturbation is more than an idle pastime for her - when the stress of everyday life threatens to overwhelm her, it offers her a way to soothe her nerves and centre herself. A situation more stressful than the everyday might require more drastic measures.
  • Physical fascination: While she is well-read, Violette learns with her hands, not just her eyes. She has earned more than a few burns and shocks from her hands-on approach to science, and when she encounters new phenomena of science or magic, she is always eager to interact with it in ways that may not be healthy.
  • Exposure: Violette's quest for fundamental truths sometimes leads her to tear away the barriers between herself and the world, so that she can experience all of it unfettered by the impediments of clothing, even among certain company. She has occasionally led other women along this path, too, disrobing them as part of a demonstration of science or magic.

Why board the Charlotte? Violette wants to take a little time away from her usual society circles in Port-a-Lucine. She enjoys conferring with her fellow scientists and dining with other society ladies, but a change is as good as a holiday, and the Charlotte offers both. She might even meet some other ladies who share her passion for science, as well as certain other passions...

Expected Posting Rate: I can commit to two posts per week, definitely.

Sudden fascination with an enemy is a terrific dark desire, because failing such a horror check turns against Rosalina's interests and infuses an erotic element to the scene. It won't always be applicable to a scene, which is why we need two more. Kleptomania and object insertion also have those elements of bad decision making and a little smut. Mere flirtation, though, I think needs some work.
No problem. I ramped up the smut and the bad decision making in my latest edit, going from being overly flirtatious to effectively bottomless and begging to be taken by her protector mid-battle.
