June 9, 2019 - Huge advancements in scientific technology have enabled a mogul to create an island full of living dinosaurs. John Hammond has invited a select crowd, along with his two grandchildren, to join him at Jurassic Park for the site’s soft opening in a bid to convince his investors of the park’s viability and safety in face of rising concerns. But will everything go according to plan? And what do the World’s Gods think of this new scientific power?

Welcome to the World of Scion! Scion is a game about gods, humanity, and everything in between. It’s a game about mythic deeds and the legends those deeds engender. Who are Scions? You are, but you don’t know it yet. Scions are the God’s children, by blood or adoption. While the World’s history has followed the same general course as ours and most people go their entire lives without personally encountering the Divine, people know the Gods are out. Polytheism is more common, less strange, and often blended with monotheism in regions where the latter is dominant.

The second edition of Scion has just been released to the public and to celebrate I’ve decided to run a game that crosses Scion’s World with the general plot of the first Jurassic Park movie. The initial encounters will be similar, but over time the storyline will diverge as magical forces (and your divine parents) make themselves know. Nascent God, uncontrollable dinosaurs, ancient faith meets modern genetics. What could possibly go wrong?

Character Creation
System: Scion Second Edition
Level: Origin (Legend 0). Follow the character creation guidelines on pg 94 and you will be good to go!
Character: You can pick anyone from any of the books or movies as your character. Antagonists, such as Nedry, Dr. Wu, and Dodgson, are off limits; as are the kids (obviously) and Hammond himself. You can also create original characters if wish.
Pantheon: Any of the Pantheons and deities in the core rulebooks are fair game. You can approach me with other deities from the Pantheons and I may say yes or no based on how much time I have and how obscure they are. They may also be an aspect of another God already in the pantheon, in which case I will point you that way.
Background: Your background can be whatever you wish, but it must include how they got invited to the Park. Remember that you, the player, knows the character is a nascent Scion, but the characters don’t know that yet!
Personality: Your character needs to be trusting enough to work with others without trying to screw them over. Keeping a game cohesive on the boards is hard enough with characters getting sarcastic with one another.
Appearance: As you please, although a picture is required so that I can use it on maps, although it doesn’t have to be a perfect representation of your character.

Expectations
Regular Posting: Shit happens, so I try not to be a tyrant about post rates, but please commit to posting twice a week. A number of my games a stalled out recently simply because people stopped interacting. I will do everything I can to prevent that from my end, but I believe it will help if you can commit to all least twice weekly. If extenuating circumstances make that untenable once the game is underway, talk to me and we’ll work something out, just please don’t vanish with no notice.

Cooperative Play:
Basically, don’t be a dick. Don’t troll other people or start fights. We are all here to have fun. Me having to play peacekeeper is anti-fun.

Open-Mindedness: This game is open to all orientations and genders. I’m a cis-het male, so I can’t promise I’ll get everything right, but I’m always open to talking and learning more. I just ask everyone to bring that open-mindedness.

Communication: Talk to me (and each other). Let me know what you’d like to see/experience. If there is something you’d like to see or is killing your buzz, let me know. If something uncomfortable comes up and you need the scene to end, please tell me.

Rating
This is a bit flexible. Since JP is a fundamentally a horror/thriller franchise, I’d like to rate it at Extreme just to make sure I don’t accidentally traumatize anyone, but I can reign it in down to a Bondage rating. We will make a decision collectively once characters have been chosen. Either way, there will be no non-con under any circumstances.

FYIs

  • I try to post frequently and give enough detail for players to respond to, but I am aware that I generally write less than other GMs. I’m being open and front about this so that everyone knows that this is a product of how slow I compose rather than a lack of interest on the GM’s side. On my side, I’m going to try to combat those shorter posts by using speech to text software more frequently with this game. I’m also on E! To improve my writing, so I’m totally open to suggestions.
  • Non-con and anything involving teenagers are very, very hard limits for me.

FAQ
Can I play if I’ve never played Scion before?
Absolutely! If you want to take a look at core rules, you can find them here.

What books do we need?
The only book you need at this point is Scion: Origin. It is also bundled with Scion: Hero here.

How is this premise different from the book/movie?
The TL;DR is that Jurassic Park is much closer to opening when an accident happens that makes the investors leery. The world at large doesn’t know about JP yet, but a small group of lucky tourists is already on site as part of a soft open lasting the entire week. Amongst that select group, Hammond has also brought in Grant, Sattler, and Malcolm to try and reassure his investors. In terms of layout, image something a bit closer to what we saw in Jurassic World. Tech levels are 2019, not 1993. People definitely have to rent hotels to stay a JP, flying in from the mainland is not feasible. There are many more species present on the islands then were seen in the books and movies, while dinosaurs are the big attraction, there are other species too, both more ancient and more recent.

There are other differences too, but discovering those is part of the story!

The Pantheon Skills for the Kami are different in Origin and Hero. Which is correct?
Culture and Persuasion are the correct Path Skills for the Kami.

The Application

Players: 3-5 players, as selected by me.
What You Need: A character sheet that’s at least 90% done, including picture and background. The latter does not need to be super extensive, however.
When you need it by: I will be picking characters on June 21st.

Hey so I reading some things over to build my concept and in the errata it does not have any answer so I was hoping someone here can. The Kami  have  conflicting information in the origin book as to its asset skills One place says Close Combat and Persuasion and the other says Culture and Persuasion? would anyone have an idea which one  is the correct version?

We've gone about a week without any posts, so unless there's a big show of interest in the next day or two, I'm going to assume isn't the right time for this concept. If you want Scion goodness though, never fear, I have other campaign ideas and I may bring this one back some day.

I’ve started back up into classes and things have been crazy for me lately.  Sorry.
