Hey there!

Figured I'd see if anyone was looking for something similar, and if so hopefully we can find a DM to run it--I'm also fine with this being a one on one game if a DM is interested and a party isn't. There's a lot of 5e games around that are focused more on hetero smut, which isn't a bad thing, but isn't what I'm looking for. I'm looking for a story first game of male adventurers.

Some general guidelines/ideas are stressing individual player agency as far as roleplay over DM-heavy narratives, challenging combat and situations that allow room for creative solutions and thought, egalitarian character creation and advancement (ie freebie pools over randomized rolls), games with quick post turn around and a group that understands that, a high fantasy focus but also with an emphasis on bleak, realistic worlds where the 'right' choice isn't always an easy one. I like shades of gray and morality in my stories. Characters aren't all good and righteousness, and villains aren't all evil cackling and puppy kicking.

Smut is obviously fine--between players, NPCs, even with monsters if it works/fits, I just don't want it to turn into 90% smut, either. Feel free to take a look at my O&Os if you think it would help, or my writing history, which is probably more accurate as far as kinks. :) I'm very familiar with 5e but haven't done a PbP version of it, which is partially why I'd be hesitant to run such a game myself and am looking for a DM for it. Certainly fine discussing ideas or helping with world building, equally fine hopping into a world lovingly crafted by a DM that wants players to explore it.

If you have questions/interest, feel free to chime in!

bandedbandit

This would be amazing. I would be a poor choice for a DM, as I've really only played dnd on a tabletop and am still getting a feel for the virtual translation, but I would 100% love to be a part of a campaign like this

Baphomett

Sounds really interesting but personally I don't think I could DM it on a play by post format either, but I'd be comfortable joining as a player.

That being said, I've been GMing over live chats for over 15 years ( Preferably on Discord nowadays ) so if it is ever in the cards, feel free to reach out.

ModUniverse

I might be down for running this, if y'all are still interested. I've got an original campaign with some excellent romanceable male characters. I'm running it with a couple other groups right now but they seem to be focused on straight ships and m/m is more my cup of tea.

bandedbandit

That would be amazing! DnD was meant to be gay

ModUniverse

You're so right. If 3-4 people are on board then I'll make a thread.

Xurtan

I'm definitely still interested. There aren't enough group games with an M/M slant.

ModUniverse

Excellent! Do you guys have characters in mind?

Xurtan

Several, honestly, depending on what sort of game we're running. I could go for a Wizard--maybe a Cleric/Wizard--or possibly a Fighter/Ranger/Assassin. Other thoughts are Artificer if it's allowed or Scholar if we're looking at 3rd party. Though I'll likely ponder options as we see what people are looking at and get ideas of the game itself.

bandedbandit

I have an idea for a monk (way of the drunken master) who's a perpetually intoxicated, private investigator sort

Xurtan

Monks are awesome and you don't see them often enough. I'm not sure what I'll do personality/background wise or anything, probably vary on story. I've played gruff characters, elegant nobles, sarcastic and sassy charismatic types...

An Arcane Trickster could be fun, too, for all that they're not terribly good I've always liked the idea of them.

ModUniverse

Some information about the story, if that helps. It will be roleplay heavy, with some mystery, some intrigue. Make sure your characters are capable in combat, but have substantial out of combat abilities. You will be going into the underdark, so darkvision will be useful (unless you want to play around with light spells, in which case, go for it).

Characters will be level seven. Unearthed arcana is fair game. Homebrew stuff is allowed provided you run it by me first.

Xurtan

Hrm, Underdark. Maybe an Elven Knowledge Cleric 1/Wizard 6 (assuming multiclassing is in, and pure Wizard if not), of some flavor or other. Useful, fitting. Wanting to either explore or meet the denizens or find ancient lore, maybe believing the Drow to have ancient knowledge lost to the other Elves. A scholarly type, but also possibly an unmitigated flirt.

ModUniverse

He sounds wonderful! Multiclassing is perfectly fine.

The adventure starts in a high elf city called Glen Avon, a city on an island levitating high above the ground. Your characters will have done something to earn the favor of the king; what that is is up to you.

Maybe something like this for a 'look'. Hmm. Hopefully we'll get a couple of others interested too, I'm still considering ideas. Favor of the King, huh. Maybe my guy makes a habit of returning lost secrets to the elven kingdoms, or at least searching for them. Magic thought lost, now returned--once he's made a copy for himself, of course.

ModUniverse

He looks very handsome!

How do you guys want to handle combat? I was thinking of letting you roleplay through minor encounters for the sake of speed but roll initiative and everything for boss encounters. What do you think?

bandedbandit

I'd like that a lot! Story and roleplay are my favorite parts, so the more that can be the focus, the better for me.

Xurtan

I'm fine with that too. While I actually enjoy combat and being strategic and all that jazz, it can... be a bit of a bog when it comes to forum play. Hell, in live games it can be a major slow down. :P

ModUniverse

Looks like we have a party! I’ll go ahead and set up a thread, y’all can respond whenever you’re ready.

Xurtan

What are we doing as far as stats? 27PB? And starting gold/equipment?

ModUniverse

Point buy or roll, whichever you prefer. You start with 1000 gold and one uncommon magic item in addition to your regular adventuring gear. You may buy additional magic items: up to two uncommon (250 gp each).

Ryven

Interested in Lawful Neutral Aasimar paladin. At work now but will add more details later.

ModUniverse

Very cool! Lawful neutral will be an interesting match for this campaign. A nice fit.
