This is an interest check. I'm still fleshing things out.

Our story takes place several years after a meteor crashes into the Earth. There was something alien on it - microbial life that changed the world as we knew it. Things devolved very quickly.

If you've ever seen that movie with the woman who goes into the Alien bubble and things on the inside are changed, like plants growing into the shapes of humans, or bears being able to mimic human sounds, that serves as a light inspiration. I don't remember the name of it and I don't think I even liked the movie. Annihilation.  The tv show Defiance also serves as inspiration to describe some of the transformations that happen in nature. Some of it will be pretty, some of it will not. This roleplay also takes on a basic zombie-survival tone.

I'm going to be purposefully vague in some descriptions and try to hit on big-picture stuff that I think is most relevant to helping you decide if you want to join.

ANTAGONISTS
1) living things (plants, people, animals) that were infected and transformed into hostile creatures. Those transformations are wildly varied to keep things interesting. A plant might be semi-sentient. An animal might grow additional appendages. A human might turn into a zombie-like creature.
2) other survivors. Some are nice. Most are not.

Quote from: Combat
I'm hoping that this is very simple.

Your character vs NPC enemy: roll 1d20
1, you miss
2-19, you deal damage equal to the number you roll
20, you kill your opponent.

NPC vs your character AND your character vs someone else's character: roll 1d6
1, NPC or opposing character misses
2-6, NPC or opposing character deal damage equal to the number rolled.

In combat posts, you may make one attack per post. At the end of your post, you will list the new HP of the target.

"Example"
Quote from: GM PostA beast is heard growling nearby. The group stops, listening anxiously. Suddenly, a three-legged creature jumps from behind a bush! (I originally had the monster be a rabid dog, but it made me sad to beat up a pupper ;__;)

A 3Legs with 22 HP appears.
Quote from: Player OneRoll first to see your damage and write your response to match your roll.

At 2018-07-18 15:21:20, Envious (uid: 19946) rolls: 1d20 Result: 2

Startled, Player One lashes out with a hunting knife, but barely has the reach to scratch the dog.

3Legs: 20/22 HP
Quote from: Player TwoAt 2018-07-18 15:25:31, Envious (uid: 19946) rolls: 1d20 Result: 12

Player Two turns to face the creature. The ugly thing snaps its jaws looks between the two humans. It's trying to make a decision on who to attack, but Player Two decides to act first andwhacks it with her stick!

3Legs: 8/22 HP
Quote from: Player TwoAt 2018-07-18 15:25:59, Envious (uid: 19946) rolls: 1d20 Result: 8
Player Two watches as the beast struggles to get up. Saliva is dripping from its open maw. Unafraid, he lunges forward with his knife to stab the creature in the belly. The creature dies, Player Two withdraws his blade and looks up at Player One. They move on.

3Legs: 0/22 HP - Dead!

If the game does have interest, I'll make the format pretty and easy with copy/paste code in my initial GM post.

YOUR CHARACTERS
Most surviving, unaltered humans have formed colonies that complete with other colonies for resources. Your character can be from Colony A or Colony B.

1) You know the members of your colony fairly well. Your character is not new to it and performs some valuable function, whether big picture or menial.
2) You know nothing about the other colony.
3) All flavors of characters welcome, but you will have to discuss with other players the types of relationships you want between characters.
4) There will be a sandbox zone for characters to play in that is very casual IC chatter so that we can get a feel for our characters and our fellow players to help us build relationships. What happens in this thread can serve as inspiration for the official IC thread, but is not directly related.
5) You are a normal, boring human.

PLOT
A group from Colony A and a group from Colony B are out hunting for resources when they are forced together by an enemy. It seems the area is particularly dangerous, and they decide to form an alliance to explore and make an agreement to split resources 50/50. Whether they honor that agreement remains to be seen.

I don't want to put it out here in the open, but each group will have a purpose as to why they were in the area. Things will slowly escalate and the characters will come to realize things. *suspenseful music*

OTHER STUFF
1) Write in third person, past tense.
2) You should be able to post in the IC or OOC thread 1-3 times a week.
3) There is a unifying plot, but you are free to make your own sub-plots. Romantic interests, vengeful vendettas, looking to overthrow the man - lets do it.
4) Do you guys use Discord? I think it would be really cool if we could use Discord for OOC, but I'll see what interest looks like.

So!

Are you interested?
Does Discord for OOC sound favorable to you? Not a deal breaker for me and I'm cool with just using E.
Do you have any questions?

Voidknight

Tentative interest- would be curious about the social structures of A and B and the current technology levels.

Envious

Wooo, interest!

Social Structure
The roleplay will not take place in the actual Colonies, so while their social structures would definitely have an impact on how characters go about their actions, I don't want to give it a hard definition. It gives players a little more flexibility in deciding why they're out on a supply mission. All flavors of drama welcome and can be relevant to any social structure.

Some examples:

You volunteered because...
you want what's best for the Colony.
your loved one is sick and you're hoping to skim some supplies during the run.
you're hoping to recruit more people into the Colony.
you had a big fight and need some time away from people.

You were voluntold because...
you pissed someone off and they're secretly hoping you get offed during the mission.
you have a needed skill set that makes you valuable on resource missions.
you've been freeloading too long and it's time to pull your weight.
it's just your job in the Colony.

Technology
Let's say the meteor crashed 2018. Let's say it's 2023 when the roleplay takes place. Power is out, but Colonies might have generators or some other source of power. Radios. Batteries.

Hope that helps.
