The Sentinel war started in the year 2027 and lasted to 2052.  During the course of the war, a state of martial law was declared.  Congress was disbanded and any opposition to the Sentinel's was quashed by the Sentinels themselves.  SHIELD was decimated and relegated to nothing more than a small insurgent group by 2030.  The Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and other organized enhanced human groups were either killed or locked away in concentration camps by 2035.  The next five years the Sentinels made steps to solidify their control over North America and eradicate the enhanced being threat.  Their next step was not only to launch operations against Europe and South America, but to breech the dimensional barrier to assault Asgard and Olympus.  This was foiled by a enhanced being group named the Redeemers.

Working with what remained of SHIELD, and an underground resistance group of human military forces calling themselves the North America Liberation Army, along the Redeemers and the mutant underground fought a long and protracted war against the Sentinels, forcing them to abandon expansion operations and to fight the threat that managed to rise up again in North America.  It lasted ten years, but finally ended when the last Sentinel production facility was destroyed in the Adirondack Mountains and their command center in the ruins of New York City was destroyed.  The operation cost the lives of the Redeemers and the Mutant Underground, and three quarters of the NLA, but the most disastrous and crippling saga in human history since the Holocaust of World War Two was over.

It is now 2102, and still the world is rebuilding.  From the ashes was formed the North America Union, a government that had been in place for the last forty years.  The last five years had seen the restoration of the United Nations, though it now resided in Geneva, Switzerland instead of the what was the United States.  Still it was a positive step towards global diplomatic efforts being restored and the specter of war being put into the past.  Much like the American Civil war did over two centuries before, the Sentinel War opened the eyes of the world to a new and savage form war and how the extinction of every living thing on the planet was no longer a theoretical exercise.  The world had been a heartbeat away from it being a reality if not for the sacrifice of Heroes the world tried to commit genocide against.

Many thought however that enhanced beings causing civil unrest or worse was a thing of the past.  Humanity however can be a singular and selfish race with a short memory and only interested in its self interest.  Once more enhance being using their abilities as a threat against society was happening, and the law enforcement of the time was unable to handle it.  The world needed a response.  It needed heroes.

It needed the Avengers...

This is their story.  Avengers Assemble!

Looking to see if there is any interest in this old idea I came up with in one of my first attempts at a group game.  I came up with the concept from the old Marvel Superheros RPG by TSR, the MX series of gaming modules which explored the Nightmares of Future Past.   I had thought about the conclusion of MX-4 Flames of Doom where humanity actually beat the Sentinels.  From such musing did this plot arrive, much in a parallel way Star Trek, the Next Generation came about, rebooting the franchise near 90 year into the future.  Such is the case here, with a world which seems to be held together with scotch tape and the need of heroes.

Okay we have interest.  We are going to move into recruitment and get this going.   One thing, I see we have two men interested in playing characters based off Spider-Man, but keep in mind I am likely only going to pick one concept, and I will go with the one that best fits the game.  Please do not take it personally if I do not pick your concept.   Also someone asked about Symbiotes and how many may have survived.  The answer is the same as the other heroes, and likely not.  Any alien will likely be new visitors to the planet and were not part of the Sentinel War.  The only alien type race who survived the Sentinels were Eternals and Olypians as they have immortality and thus difficult to kill, but not impossible.  I am also going to be wary of accepting such concepts as I do want there to be a risk to characters in the game.   Below is the character concept submission.

Feel free to be creative but do try to limit the big damn hero moments, as I promise you will have your moments in the game.  Keep in mind the setting of being fifty years after the Sentinel's devastated North America and killed off the heroes so I am looking for original characters, but I am good with plot hooks to previous Marvel characters.

Powers/Abilities:
When you are putting them down, do try to give me some frame of reference, such as if you say your character can stretch, tell me how far.  If they have super strength, tell me how much they can lift.  If they have super speed, how fast can they move.   I am not looking for War and Peace in your descriptions, but I do want to be able to wrap my mind about the bounds and range of your powers/abilities.  If your abilities are derived from an object, item, power armor, put it in this section as well.

Skills:
Talents and Skills, stuff that is not super powered goes here, like you are a Black Belt in Martial Artist, you have a skilled knowledge of electronics, you hold a PhD level education in nuclear fusion, etc.

Limitations/Weaknesses:
Your character should have at least one.

I was going to ask if any Symbiotes had survived and jumped to new hosts but with two Spidermen already it may get a little redundant going down that path.  Still, plenty of other directions to go.  I have almost too many ideas to play around with and it's hard to narrow down.

Hee hee... one of my ideas was a female version of Venom. Webs for everyone!

:P

Luckily I got a few other things cooking in my noggin.

Right now my top noodling idea is a sorceress supreme or a warskrull

Hey, symbiotes of all sorts are fun all around.  I don't mind getting more than one.  I'm mostly speaking out of consideration since some people may have issues with that imbalance and high degree of spider-related heroes.  By all means, though.  Don't let me stop you.  It'll be fun either way.

Both awesome.  Skrulls are great for E based RP! Skrulls were actually on my idea list, too.

Inspiration?

Okay interest check is now changed to recruitment.  Here is an example of what I am looking for as far as characters go.  Also this is only an example so do not think the relative of Tony Stark is off the table for folks.  Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.

Player ID: Blackstone

Character Basics
Name: Daniel Stark
Code/Hero Name: Shield
Gender: Male
Origin: Hi-Tech
Race: Human
Sexuality: Bisexual
On's: Being in control, public sex, green eyes, strong women
Off's: The usual

Character Appearance
Height: 75 in (6'3")
Weight: 205 lbs
Age: 38
Hair Color: As Picture
Eye Color: As above
Build: Athletic
Distinguishing marks: Mole on his right cheek near the mouth and nose
Occupation: Industrialist, CEO and owner of Argent Enterprises
Residence: New Haven as well as Saint Xavier on the West Coast

Personality:
Curious and creative as well as passionate are some of the words to use for Daniel.  He also feels the pressure and weight of his legacy, being the descendant of Tony Stark, and also being in the limelight as the owner of Argent Enterprises, who is doing its best to restore the war ravaged areas of North America with his technology.  At times Daniel can come off as a bit crass and condescending, and has little patient for people that he has to explain something more than once too.  As such he has angered more than one media reporter with egos out there.  Daniel is also outspoken about the government's lack of progress and motivation to reclaim the ruins of North America, like New York City, and as such is critical of them, and SHIELD, as of late.

As Shield, Daniel is above all a protector.  Much like his ancestor, Daniel does not want to see his technology used as a weapon, and he will go after anyone as Shield that is doing so.  Otherwise he does spend his time assisting settlements in the ruins of New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Seattle as provide them as much protection as he can against raiders and marauders.

History:
Daniel is the heir to the Stark Legacy.  During the Sentinel War, Tony Stark had the foresight to move Stark Industries to Calgary, Canada, so it could not be co-opted by the government in use of the Sentinels.  After his death, much of the technology of Stark Industries was scattered and hidden.  Even though he was gone, Tony Stark's legacy lived on, and it was Daniel's grandfather, Steven Stark, wearing the armor of the Patriot, that assaulted the Sentinel command center with NLA and the Redeemers.  However, like the rest of the Redeemers and the proud men and women of the NLA, Steven Stark died during the assault, and the Patriot Armor was lost, destroyed during the battle.  Daniel's grandmother was the heir to the Stark fortune and technology, and she used it to create Argent Enterprises, a company dedicated to restoring North America and helping people rebuilding their homes and lives.

Daniel was dedicated to this goal and vision, and spent his young life preparing for the challenge.  It was clear from a young age that Daniel inherited his great grandfather's gift for technology, and with his innovations, Daniel steered Argent Enterprises into the new century, able to keep the razor thin balance between charity and business.  What started to stifle and frustrate Daniel was the government.   It seemed to him the lessons learned during the Sentinel War were all but forgotten by today's politicians, and all they cared about was making their life easier and padding their own wallets.  More and more support to reclaiming the ruins of the former great cities started to wan, and even more limits and regulations on what Argent Enterprises could do.

As such, Daniel was limited in what technology he could give to the settlers in the ruins.  So much like his ancestor, Daniel made a choice.  He created himself power suit, but he had to be careful and not make a recreation of Tony Stark's Iron Man technology.  With that limitation, Daniel went a different direction and modeled his alter ego after another hero of his, and the man that his grandfather was named after, Steve Rogers.  From this idea, Shield was born, an avenger and protector of the people, and an ideal that he hoped could stir and nation and change the course of history.

Powers/Abilities:
Hyper Intelligence: Daniel's technical and scientific acumen is such that even the most advanced technology in their theory and application is easy to him.  Daniel's designs in these fields are considered the cutting edge for human technology, and even rival that in purpose and design when compared to alien technology as well.

All of Shield abilities come from the power armor that Daniel created for himself.   The Shield Armor has the following abilities.

Body Resistance: The Shield power armor is crafted from titanium tri-weave with beta cloth and carbon composites between the layers and overlapping the joint areas.  The armor is able to protect its wearer from anything but the most powerful military small arms weaponry.

Shield: The heart of the Shield Armor is the system that creates an energy shield.  The technology is very similar to the system that Tony Stark once created for Steve Rodgers.  The default setting is a one meter in diameter circular shield that is a near duplicate of Captain America's legendary shield, save instead of the American flag symbol, the Shield Armor created what looks to be a polished metal surface to near mirror like intensity.   The Shield system can do the following.

 • Personal shield of the same strength as secondary Adamantium, which can protect the wearer from near all known weaponry and energy weapons but the most destructive.  The personal shield could also withstand standard Sentinel weaponry.
 • The shield can be fired as a ranged weapon that can strike with enough force to dent titanium that is one inch in thickness or less.  The range of the shield is one hundred and fifty yards.   The shield's energy dissipates after it strikes, detonating all of its energy against its target.  Once the shield if fired, it takes six seconds for the armor to regenerate the shield.
 • The armor can launch into the air to a height of ten feet above the armor and cause the shield to expand into a dome twenty feet in diameter.  The strength of the shield at this setting is that of osmian steel that one inch thick.  Everyone that is inside the shield dome is protected, and at this setting the shield can withstand up to armored vehicle grade weaponry, such as depleted uranium shells from an Abrams A1A tank, or the 30mm cannon on a A-10 Warthog ground assault aircraft.

Shock Gauntlets: In melee combat, the Shield armor can charge the knuckle area on the gauntlets.  When he strikes a target, the electrical discharge is equal to that of taser technology used to bring down big game, such as elephants and rhinoceroses.

Leaping: The Shield armor is able to make leaps up to fifteen stories in height, up to one hundred yards in length.  Shorter leaps are possible and can be calculated to land within a two foot radius of the intended target area.

Skills:

 • Engineering: Daniel is among the top ten geniuses in the field of engineering, from mechanical, electrical, and computer to name a few.  His knowledge surpasses that of a doctorate level of education.
 • Applied Sciences: Be it physics, metallurgy, chemistry, if it has an application in the creation of weapon systems or electronics, Daniel has a doctorate level education in the field.
 • Hand to Hand Combat: Daniel has what would be considered just below a black belt level skill in modern hand to hand combat.
 • Weapon Training: Daniel is accomplished in weaving in his personal energy shield into hand to hand combat situations.

Limitations/Weaknesses:
Armor: Near all of Daniel's abilities come from the Shield combat armor.  Without it Daniel is a normal human that engages in regular and intense physical exercise.
Temper: Daniel has a lack of patience for those that he considers fools, and has been known to fly off at the handle at them.

Other Info:GM controlled character that will only be used in play under certain conditions.

Not saying there are no Symbiotes, only saying the ones which existed in mainstream Marvel such as Venom and Carnage are gone.  New ones are fine, I just don't want an army of them.

As far as limitations, obviously the more powerful you are going with your character, the greater the limitation.  Good examples are the early Thor, if he was separated from his hammer for more than 30 seconds her reverted back to his Donald Blake form.  The Hulk was unintelligent and always attacked the most direct threat to him.  Cyclops needed a visor to focus eyeblasts if he did not have it, he could not see unless he wanted to hurt someone.  I want the limitations to be real, to be something which could put your character in an adverse situation and a disadvantage, and for it also to be a RP hooks.   Limitations such as only a rare energy form, or mineral like Elementium (or Kryptonite) are not going to fly far with me.

Barbra has a good grasp on it and the limitations she has work well for her character and I could work with.  A magic blast to knock down a person she could channel and summon in less than a second.  One to blast through a solid  steel 18" think, would take far longer, and during such time she would be vulnerable.  Also if she did not have her talisman, her magic would come from personal stores of energy (mana, magik, whatever you want to call it) and the larger the spell, the greater the drain.   If you are looking for a good example, look to her sheet as it looks great.

Last but not least, totally good with a female Captain America.  Perhaps not with his shield as I would love to make gaining such a legendary object in marvel lore a plot story, but everything else, especially like how Marvel did Captain America in the First Avenger, or in their Ultimate lines where they gave him an edge and made him more Army Ranger badass and less boy scout, and used weapons such as rifles, fire arms, B-24 Bombers, M1-A1 tanks, go for it!

Hope this helps and love the creative energy in the thread.  It keeps me hitting F5 to see what new idea or question is coming.

I forgot about one question as far as powers I frown upon and likely won't approve.

 • Reality manipulation.  Can get OP way too quickly
 • Mater transformation
 • Time Travel
 • Anything more than four powers is going to be a hard sell, especially if your character is uber at all powers.
 • Mary and Max Sue's.  Being the ultimate bad ass and having the strength of the Hulk and the agility of Spider-Man, or having the powers of Superman because you are Kryptonian and the fighting skills of Batman, not going to happen (I know the last two are DC characters but it works well to get the point across I think)
 • Adamantium skeleton or anything remotely related.  I happen to think Wolverine is a great character, but it was also a very unique set of circumstances which brought about the bonding of Adamantium to his skeleton and thought it had been overdone later on in comics.  It is much like Drizzit Do'Urden in Forgotten Realms.  One character concept of a good Drow made  him exciting.  Multiple carbon clones of him, not so much.  It is kind of a pet peeve of mine, and even being a descendant of Wolverine will not fly with me, sorry.

Powers I will consider with limitations on them

 • Power Absorption.  Taking one power from a person, great, trying to take 10, yes there will be issues
 • Regeneration.  Saying you heal fast and can recover a broken bone in a day or so, no problem.  Healing fatal wounds in a blink of a eye, or regeneration of a lost limb, not gonna happen and will take time
 • Magneto like powers.  Controlling only one type of metal completely, sure I can get behind it.  All types of metal?  Not so much.  I loved early in the comics when they were true to the character and his power was magnetism, and only able to effect ferrous metal.  Later iterations like in the movies, hated it.  Not saying you can't make a character who could control all metal, but there will be drawbacks, such as it would be far easier to manipulate soft metals like gold, lead, tin, because they are ductile and soft metals.  You wanting to bend an adamatium plate, nope won't happen.  Hope this makes sense.
 • Immortality.  Aging slowly so it seems like your are timeless, I am good with. Actual not aging at all, and always come back to life and can't die, not so much.
 • Lastly (reserving GM fiat to add if something comes up that makes me go "Hell no"), saying you are the kid of two canon characters, and you gain the powers of both character, such as if Cyclops and Emma Frost had a baby and now you got a person who has both optic blasts, can turn into diamond, and telepathy.   Genetics really does not work in such a way and such characters are a real turn off for me.  If I wanted pure canon characters, the setting of the game would not be 100 years in the future.  Give me a nice plot hook twist to your character, such as Thor's daughter, but no Hammer and using some other forged artifact from Asgard, Daredevil, but female and using an unique combat armor to mimic some of the abilities he had.

Also keep in mind this game takes place really far into the future.  Mainstream cannon characters would be 150 years old, so you might need to have any cannon characters you want to be linked too be more than 2 generations back.  More like 3-4 would be more realistic.  We are talking about 86 years from present time, 2018, which is three generations ahead at the least.  Second or first generation siblings will need to have to be some form of slow aging, which would count as a power in my book.

I am not trying to be too restrictive here, but I am looking for characters where I can build a story about them, and characters which could save the day in 2.2 seconds and not break a sweat are not what I am looking for, nor carbon copies of existing heroes.   I hope this makes sense.

Code/Hero Name: Nomad
Gender: Female
Origin: Altered Human
Race: Human
Sexuality: Pansexual
On's: Exhibitionism. gangbangs, anal, deep-throating, fisting, choking, spanking, dirty talk, watersports
Off's: Scat

Character Appearance
Height: 5' 4"
Weight: 97 lbs
Age: 18
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown
Build: Slim and petite
Distinguishing marks: Very long ponytail
Occupation: Nomad
Residence: None, she's a nomad

Personality:
Nomad is a free spirit who believes people should live in the moment and do what they like as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. She has a very upbeat and uninhibited attitude, although sometimes she can come across as a bit of an attention whore. Nomad has a definite anti-authority streak and bristles at being told what to do. While freedom is important to her so is the responsibility to do good. In her travels she enjoys finding old rock albums and playing a game of baseball.

History:
Nita Ricarte was born into a Filipino family that stresst the value of discipline and hard work. This was tough on Nita since she wanted to do whatever she wanted and a lot of things came very easy to her. She was a natural at sports and picked up on schoolwork quickly. About three years ago when she was grounded for the umpteenth time, Nita found herself looking out a window and wishing she was outside. And suddenly she was. Finding out she had super-powers made her even more trouble to her parents and at sixteen she ran... well, teleported... away. She made her way to North America where she wandered the many ruins and scavenged to get by. Nita had opportunities to help people and when they called her a hero she replied with "Nah, I'm just a nomad."

Powers/Abilities:
Destiny Force: Although Nomad thinks she's a mutant, her powers actually come from the Destiny Force, a powerful energy inside all humans. How it was triggered in her is unknown but its possible mysterious forces are at work as Nomad seems to be drawn to area of importance where she could be needed.

Gear: In her travels Nomad has managed to cobble together two bits of nifty equipment from scavenged tech. One is a metal sphere she calls her "breaking ball" that is simply really hard and can ricochet off targets its thrown at. The other is a pair of sneakers whose soles enable her to run up walls and make thrity foot leaps.

Maximum Human Potential: Nomad had the highest degree of strength, stamina, speed, agility, and recovery at the highest level a young woman of her physique can have.

Quick Learner: Nita has always had an intuitive ability to learn things quickly. She's no Taskmaster but she seems to have a "knack" for just about everything.

Teleportation:  Nomad's most overt power. She can teleport to anywhere that she can see. Nomad can also switch places with another person in visual range. She uses this power with a lot of precision so don't believe her when she says she "accidentally" teleported out of her clothes.

Skills:
Acrobatics: Nita started training at an early age and thanks to her abilities is now at Olympic level. She has superb balance, coordination, and flexibility.

Gearhead: Her quick learning and time as a scavenger lets her tinker with and repair most tech she comes across.

Languages: A native of the Philippines, Nita knows English, Spanish, and Tagalog.

[Martial Arts: Picking up bits of training here and there combined with her physical talents has made Nomad a skilled fighter. Her personal sytle relies on a lot of moves from judo and aikido.

Limitations/Weaknesses:
Need To Feed: Nomad's powers use a lot of energy and she requires a lot of food. Watching someone with her petite figure scarf down a bunch of burgers and candy is impressive.

Weirdness Magnet: The Destiny Force gets her in the oddest of situations. Sometimes these are cool, sometimes... not so much.

Other Info: Faceclaim is Joanie Brosas.

Character Basics
Name: Elliot Spence
Code/Hero Name:  Power Man
Gender: Male
Origin: Potentially Mutant
Race: Human
Sexuality: Straight
On's:  Same as my own on's and off's (basically anything goes but male on male)
Off's: Bullies

Character Appearance
Height: Six Foot
Weight: 225
Age: 26
Hair Color: short shaved hair
Eye Color: Brown
Build: Large and hulking with a muscular body builder like build
Distinguishing marks: Various scars from his years testing his endurance
Occupation: Private Investigator
Residence: In the hold Harlem district which he is helping rebuild and recover

Personality:

Elliot is a strong believer in truth and justice. He despises bullies, bad guys, and anyone trying to take advantage of a system. He loves helping out in his community and helping people as much as possible. When he isn't on the clock or working he generally is a fun loving guy who likes to kick back with a beer and a good friend. He can be very charismatic or at least is very humorous.

History:

Elliot like so many others lost his parents and his legacy to the sentinels. His mother was Danielle Cage while his father was a soldier in the NLA army whose name he never learned. Both of his parents died while fighting leaving Elliot orphaned as a baby and part of the mutant underground (his mother had people she trusted within the group to watch over him). He never got to fight in the war itself instead watching as peace was achieved after years of fighting and hardship.

He along with other young adults were faced with a uncertain future. Like many enhanced children the weight of his family legacy weighed on him heavily as well. He left the underground and spent some time traveling around the world and figuring himself out. He learned a lot about his mothers side of the family as well trading for old stories and any information he could find. He got a sense of the legacy of his family and with it perspective on what he should do with his life. He decided to go back to the ruins of New York and took it upon himself not only to help people in the old neighborhood his grandpa called home but also reopen the business his Grandma created and his Mom worked in. Family is of the utmost importance to Elliot and he hopes to do his mom and dad proud.

Powers/Abilities:

Elliot has inherited enhanced strength and durability from his mothers line. However these powers are diluted and weakened. His durability is enough to stop most super powered blows and small caliber bullets. However anything bigger than a small caliber bullet can potentially get through his thick skin. Also people with greatly enhanced strength (think hulk or even thor level) can also potentially really hurt him. His skin scars up as well and the evidence of even the bullets bouncing off of him can some times show.

Right now his strength is at a Spider-man esque level. He is strong but by no means the strongest. he can lift a sedan pretty easily and the front of a buss if he pushes himself.

Skills:

Comfortable fighter with training in boxing

Natural Born Leader Elliot is a natural born leader and is capable of taking control of a situation

Detective Skills Elliot is learning how to be a private investigator and is semi good at the job right now

Limitations/Weaknesses:

Reduced strength Elliot is nowhere near his grandparents or even his mothers strength

Reduced durability Elliot can take most super powered punches but will be hurting afterwards

Other Info: Anything else you think might be important. (Optional, if you can't think of anything you may delete this section).

I will consider a write-up for Torunn.  The Avengers Next was  one of my favs from the Marvel animated lines of film.

Kadigan

Updated with a piccy and such. Two pics even!

BlackStone

Going to give this to Friday to see if we get any more character submissions.  I have one which was PM'd to me we are hashing out the details.  I would like another few players to cover the eventual player attrition.   If we have the players, OOC and game threads up on the weekend.

Also I noticed White Spider was removed, and it did make have a sad panda face as I liked the character.   When I said I dislike a descendant getting the power sets of both parents, I was talking about all powers, and of uber powered people, like the Hulk and Scarlet witch had kid and not only gains Wanda's intellect, power and magic, but the Hulk's strength and power too.

Now if you have a hero which had a singular power of both parents, such as the White Spider with the wall crawling and super strength with the agility and senses of White Tiger, that I ca get behind.   Hope this clears up confusion as to what I am looking for and what I think will work and what will not.

Green Goo Theory

Just to kind of second Black Stone's stance the spider powers were sort of odd in the sense that they were a very dominant genetic trait (or...totem magic?) that almost perfect passed down from one generation to the next.  There's already a precedent for it in the comics.   Not so much for certain other characters.  Hulk, for example, has his powers diluted to some extent depending on which universe we look at.
