Let me talk with Sith, the main GM. I'm the co-GM who's got most of the Sabbat NPCs made. Since more than one person's expressed interest in the Sabbat, I may need to rethink having my Sabbat NPCs present at all, depending on what direction Sith's okay with for the game.
Come now, swing wide those gates!
'Cause I have paid my penance kindly well in time for judgment day.
Somehow I knew my fate.
Turns out the gods we thought were dyin' were just sharpening their blades.
Have you been waitin' long...
...for me...?

As one of the combat oriented characters, I'd much rather have NPCs.  I really and absolutely don't want my character getting in actual fights with other players.

If there's just a couple PCs, it wouldn't be too hard to have Catherine avoid meeting up with them.

I'm talking it out with Sith, in particular about the complications of PvP vs. the benefits.

I'm not interested in actually fighting other PC's either if I can avoid it since it just seems to leave a bad taste in everyone's mouths afterwards or ends up with one person being very dissatisfied which isn't ideal in a storytelling game. If I'm going to fight someone I'd rather it be political and discuss the subplot behind it ahead of time to make sure it feels like a fun game where both sides can maneuver around socially, possibly involving compromises behind the scenes were no one gets all of what they want and setting up the next little plot line. I'd rather trade verbal barbs than actual ones with PCs. There's plenty of random NPCs that can be the threats and/or punching targets. The closest I'd ever want to actually fighting another player would be to talk to them first in a PM, send mooks after them, and do like the villain 'mwhahaha' thing then leave and let the player fight it out with the NPC fodder.

I've got a character I'd modify from another game that died (different site) who I would modify to fit into this game and update. I never made it to even 50 or 100 xp in that game before it went away. I had a write up for some Sabbat NPCs as members of the little group and used a few things like 'dark secret' and 'recruitment target' to get a little subplot where I was working as a mole in the Camerilla court since most players were Camerilla. I think the Prince in that game was in on it but the subplot never went anywhere and I never found out if it was true or not.

Just my two cents on it since if I was going to be a Sabbat I'd also like to avoid the fighting stuff unless both sides agree to it on a case by case basis so things don't get derailed.

I had originally considered allowing Sabbat PCs, but I think a game works better when only one side of the "war" is represented by players, so I'm going to say no at this time.

If there's enough people wanting to play Sabbat, I might make a secondary campaign as an offshoot to Eternal Nights that will be Sabbat only.

I think all my usual character ideas are already embodied in characters already in your game then. The only thing I can of at the moment is maybe a Kiasyd book collector who owns (behind the scenes) an auction house. I'm not sure how interesting that would be for your game though.

Make a Malkavian bookshop owner whose split personality thinks he's a Kiasyd? ;-)

Now now, if I was going to have a malkavian think they are another clan I might as well go whole hog and randomly roll each day to see which clan they think they are. That's more comic relief than anything else though and would probably get me killed when I try to enter the chantry claiming I'm a Tremere that day.

I think if I was doing a malk it would more than likely be a variation of the meglomania and schizophrenia where they think they are a super hero in a comic book and see the world through that lens. Likely wandering around vegas wearing a costume. Monologuing would be an issue. It's possible the hero or villain they act as changes every wednesday when the new comics arrive at the shop and get read. I'd have to a do a lot of research ooc to get it right though since I don't read comics so I'd have to do a bunch of searching on a wiki or talk to someone that knows comics.

There you go! And well... if a Malkavian is able to enter the Tremere chantry, let alone find it, the Tremere did something seriously wrong so I wouldn't worry too much ;-) but I agree the superhero idea sounds more fun.

It sounds interesting in a way yeah, just not sure what themes the game is going for or not. I'll wait to see if the GM(s?) like one idea over the others before I get too far into creating something.

I'm still working on the background details but the basics are someone who made fan videos for characters and released them on youtube, gaining some recognition and supporters for the unconventional acting. In doing so she attracted the attention of a malkavian and a toreador, both who were interested in her for different reasons (one saw it in tea leaves the other wanted to get the next underground acting sensation early to say they sponsored someone before they were cool) . The malkavian managed to secure permission from the prince first and now the toreador is in a tizzy about it. Now Mia owns a comic/gaming shop and still does some old activities although the oracular ability blasted her mind with quite a few skills it also left her a little scattered. Now she wanders around taking inspiration from things she reads, sees, or hears from shop activities and can't help but subsume  herself in the different worlds with occasional insights from them granted to the real.

You're probably pretty desperate to search Mia out. If you're looking to get rid of a body this... is probably not the best place to find that. I mean, my clientele usually favors the sort of refined pizza and cheetos diet over the corpse eating thing. I should know, that Hawaiian themed long-pig barbecue was a disaster! Everyone had fun and all but no one wanted to volunteer for the firepit so we just used a regular pig instead. Need a computer hacked into? I think I've got an ax or a fire extinguisher I can hit it with. That counts right? But that's okay, sometimes you need someone to punch someone out. In that case I can recommend a fine line of 'Go ghoul someone you fool! What are you thinking?' products. But sometimes you need an information network and I have that covered with my heavy investment in youtube commenting and reddit posts. What? Oh, a good information network. Have you tried the Nos? I've heard that's what they do when they aren't helping cars go faster. I do have the extensive ability to find out some odd things though, my tea leaf reading skills are boss and I might even have some around somewhere. I've been reading them less since I switched to coffee. Some people say you can't tea leaf read in coffee and I call those people non-visionaries. Tea-leaf coffee reading is the next craze! We've secretly replaced the normal tea leaves with Folgers Crystals. Let's see if anyone notices.

I am surprised I missed this whole thread. I am so interested it is ridiculous.

In order of preference, these are character concepts I am interested in.

Elektra von Hauffensler: a Lasombra Anti-Trib with a fascination in black magic, goth girls, and ww2 history, particularly historic relics from Nazi Germany. She absolutely loathes the Sabbat, since even though those Lasombra are the majority, they actually are the uncouth, rebellious anti-tribs. She would be quick to ally with the Tremere and Toreador, Harpies, and other social elite.

Paddy McKnight: An IRA terrorist. A devout Catholic. A rebellious drunk. And an Assamite gun smuggler. Paddy operates in Tremere territory for two big reasons. First, no other Assamites, let alone anything resembling an Anarch operates in Tremere domain, making it very lucrative. Second, and just as importantly, Paddy plays by the rules. He is perfect for his clan in a not at all kind of way, at least to a careless observer. But he also plays the long game and doesn't mind paying his dues to get ahead.

Riley Joan Ratcliff: A Ventrue Rook most consider a Brujah. Riley is older than most people think. She is a southern belle from Birmingham, Alabama. Her daddy, her brother Riley (Her birth name is actually Rebecca Jane), and her cousin Paul all fought in the War of Northern Aggression. They all died in the war, too. Four years later, Riley's husband was killed by a carpetbagger. Not too long after that she was embraced. After completing her Agoge, she followed her sire north... and after years of plotting leaked information that got him killed by a Sabbat spy. In the process, Riley developed a certain sympathy for the Sabbat. Now, more than a century later, Riley keeps herself mostly low key, settling for regular Camarilla work assisting the Sheriff and keeping her dark secrets hidden. Now that Vegas is at war with the Sabbat, Riley has to be extra careful. She can't be a member of thr clan of kings and be seen as a sympathizer. On the other hand? If she gets an offer she couldn't refuse?

And finally, Peter Mackenliner: He's a Nosferatu. He's also a drifter. And he's ugly. So what? He got his face and 70% of his body melted by phosphorus in Vietnam. That's why he looks so gross. His beard is all messed up. He is almost always wearing maintenance overalls and a neon vest. To keep people from freaking out, he wears a balaclava. When they see his face, most people want him to put it back on. Most people understand that Peter is an alias and his Vietnam story is bs if they are in the kindred know. He works as a yard jockey and freelances his own rig on local runs. It makes a perfect mobile haven that nobody thinks twice about, and truck stops are a wealth of information, supplies, and good feeding.

There!

I hope y'all like my concepts and pick one you want in the game. I am a longterm player, a regular poster, and am familiar enough with v:tm that I can figure v20 out. :)

Are you allowing Anarch Movement to be present in the setting?

TheHighwayHitman

No love for the Lasombra, I see. Dangit.

Oh well. I get to try and play an Assamite. Yay!

I do have an important question though, and I would like to tackle it before it comes up. How do you handle guns? Are they all but useless in terms of dealing with kindred, so everybody is walking around with swords hidden under trenchcoats like Blade wannabes? Or are guns going to be lethal/useful because it won't always be kindred everyone deals with. I get that combat shouldn't be a first resort. That isn't what I mean.

I'm thinking about this. Is a gun smuggling character actually going to be valuable to other characters and npcs? Or is it about as necessary as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest? If so, I will have to take aspects of the character in a different direction.

Thanks!

As far as I remember, guns can still be lethal, even to a vampire, so a gun smuggler would be great.

Don't they only do bashing damage to kindred?

RegretNot

Headshots are lethal and special rounds like incendiary do aggravated considering they are fire basically.

LizzieV

In v20 you can knock a vampire into torpor with a gun. Page 285 on bashing damage states if you are incapacitated and take another point of bashing you enter torpor. Guns work as a safe way to capture a kindred if you have enough of them. All the better to eat someone.
