Rule clarification on images.
« on: October 23, 2017, 11:34:02 PM »
No embedding images or videos of anyone under eighteen, period. The medium and context are irrelevant, though you may link to such material. This includes images of underage characters in the Non-Adult Roleplaying section. If you see such an image, please click on the "Report to moderator" link to alert staff to the issue.

So I'm a little wary of accidentally breaking this rule hence why I'm asking for advice. Obviously in terms of using real life photos for characters there can be no mistaking if someone is aged 18 or older because you have the ability to check.

But I often like to use art rather than photographs and then it becomes a matter of interpretation, and I am not particularly good at guessing ages. So for example there is an image I would like to use but the character in question could be anywhere between 17 and 26 to me. People age differently.

So what do I do in these cases?

Often art is of a specific canon character who has an established age, and we go off that. We do sometimes ask people to remove or link images that look too young.

One of the reasons I use art is because I dislike using celebrities and famous people, and as such I also steer clear of canon images.

Images like these examples:

To me if I had to guess I would put most of them somewhere around 19-21 , but they could also relatively easily be seen as 16, 17, or 26 or 27.

One of the other things that Staff will look at is body proportions - people go through certain skeletal and musculature changes when they go through puberty.  This link is also provided in the 'Gentle Reminder' thread down in Off Topic, where we discuss the '18+ aged images' in more depth.
