My name is Samiel and this is my story. I came here to find her. I can hear calling to me in the night. She wakes me up and I know that she is in danger. I defied them all for the sound of her voice and the touch of her skin. She was the one that made me sacrifice. Adriel was her name; she haunted this forsaken place that wallowed in filth. For such a name, she should be surrounded by beauty, but she isn’t. Tonight I will find her, my beautiful Adriel.
The rain splattered along the streets as I covet the shadows, my body hidden within the hooded cloak. I look out of place but also a part of this strange world. I move with the athletic grace and land softly on the ground; the distance between the fire escape and the ground proving no challenge for my muscular frame. Every muscle rippled tension as I knew that she would be there soon. I had searched for so long. She was within my grasp. After hearing her call for months, I would finally see and touch my Adriel. I rushed ahead, moving quietly as I blended in with the people moving steadily and I could hear her clearly now.
Her voice was music to my soul, a touching embrace of sound as my heart lurched with an overwhelming love for her. She was lost and only I could save her now. It was up to me to do what others feared. I reached the nondescript building and pushed the door open, taking the stairs two at a time, focusing on the sound of her voice, louder now. The corridor of the top floor stretched out before me and I closed my eyes, listening again, listening so that I would choose right. I was rewarded with a scream, one so loud it shattered the light bulb above my head, though I couldn’t be sure if it was me that did that or the sound.
The scream came again and the corridor exploded into shards of exploding light, I ran then, realising that the sound came from the apartment at the end and my Adriel was in danger. I growled as the solid wooden door gave way under the kick of my foot. Adrenaline coursed through me as I watched it slam open, reverberating against the wall. “Adriel!”
I screamed hoarsely; fear taking over me as I knew that she was quiet. I heard a whimper as I stepped into the darkness of the apartment, my eyes adjusting quickly and my heart racing as I heard her whimper. I ran through the apartment, sliding to a stop as the scene unfolded before me. The man moved towards the little figure that lay on the floor. Her bloodied face a reflection of her screams. Her body in an unnatural position as she coughed pathetically, blood expelled from her mouth in as she tried to speak. My Adriel was in her death rows and the man that moved towards her was ready to finish her off. I was horrified by the scene before me and the man never made it to her, he was caught in a large hand around his throat and before he knew it the glass shattered as he was thrown through the big bay window that lay before me, falling through the air and crashing onto the cars below. Screams filled the air but all I heard was Adriel, whimpering and I fell to my knees before her.
My hand cupped her head gently as the tears spilled from my eyes, “I am sorry Adriel, I am here now…I am here, Daddy is here now.”
My beautiful Adriel, they had told me she would be safe when I ascended but they had lied. As I watched the life drain from my beautiful Adriel, I knew what would happen next…
I woke with a start in a city covered in filth, my brain fuzzy from the oblivion that drugs and alcohol administered. I was surprised as I heard her voice, my Adriel. It had been months since she had died, so hearing her was painful and I looked up, to see her before me.“It’s time to come home, Daddy! You have served your penance.”
she said softly, her beautiful voice filled the room. I reached for her as she did for me and as our hands touched I woke for real, the image of her a vaporising mist.
I am Samiel and eight months ago I fell from heaven trying to save my daughter, but now there is nothing for me here and I search for death that refuses to take me again…
