Power surge on hub port?
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:01:49 PM »
I had to buy a new mouse today after my old one kicked the bucket. It's a little iHome wireless notebook mouse, if that matters at all.

After starting up my laptop, I plugged in the mouse, and I got an error message about a power surge in the hub port. The message told me I should unplug the device, so I did, and the message went away.

I wanted to see if using a different USB port would make any difference. Plugged the mouse in again, waited a few seconds, and instead of the error message, it resumed a normal installation. No hiccups, just a speedy installation, after which the mouse began working perfectly.

Even though I haven't seen another error message, I'm just wondering if I should be concerned. I've never received that error message before, and the words "power surge" make me a little nervous. Should I be worried at all?

Brilliant, do you have a Toshiba laptop?

Yes, it's a Toshiba Satellite.

You might want to check with Toshiba about flashing your BIOS to the latest version.  I found this after a little search:

I doubt the problem is all that serious, but it's always best to apply a fix for something if it's available - and it appears that it is.  Good luck.  :)

Thanks, Dreamweaver, I'll do that. :-) Fortunately, I haven't had any trouble so far, but I just wanted to be sure. Much appreciated!
