Resident Evil!
« on: December 02, 2007, 05:51:09 PM »
Hey all you guys and gals.

I just got a killer idea (no pun intended) to start a game based on the Resident Evil franchise.  Perhaps something where sex does not play a big role, and the game is a lot more story and character-driven.

It'd have to be free-form, I think, and I'd love to see various characters from throughout the series interacting with/fighting with or against the players, et cetera.

What do you guys think?  I'm looking for a good GM and at least two other people besides myself, though more are definitely welcome.

Oh, and this is for your viewing pleasure, one of my favorite AMVs ever, featuring Resident Evil 4.

I would probably be interested in a story along these lines :)

What exactly are the guidelines? The premise sounds fun but I admit I've only heard of Resident Evil and seen snapshots. Will this require in-depth knowledge which I will almost certainly lack?

I haven't played any of the games other than Resident Evil 4, so I don't have much in-depth knowledge either.  So, I don't think the game iwll be too in-depth.  Again, we're still looking for somebody to organize this whole thing.

Hehe, I could help with RE/BH. I own every single release of it. Both US and JP. ^.^

World of Darkness rules would work... IF rules is wanted of course. Loving the game Resident Evil I are feeling tempted to pick this ball up.

nWoD would work, but geesh, the mortality mark would be pushed up a bar or three.

I don't think Morality can work in a Resident Evil game ;)... but we can take such things as it develop.

Mortality. (As in easier to die). Not Morality. Morality would lower, remember, fighting monsters is much different then people. If you were going about killing humans, you'd drop a lot of Morality points. Morality would balance around 6-5 after this unless people went insane.

Oh! A simple missreading on my part :)

Yes I agree... hmmm I would say that the healing part is the problem (few people survive gun shots anyway). *writes note on paper*

I don't know if rules would work the best, here.  I, for one, am unfamiliar with many rule-based roleplaying games, other than D&D.  I think free-form would be better anyway since combat can be a bit more frenetic in Resident Evil than a rule system would allow.

And, what "universe" do we want?  Do we want to have it take place post-R.E.4, what characters will be involved, et cetera.

I had no intention of using rules when it comes to fighting and such. The reason I want to use some kind of rules is to be able to tell what a character can do.  Swedish-Steel has solved it very good I think by as Gamemaster hold the rules but play out the game as freeform (take a look at the game Retake the night and you can see what I mean). As for storyline I had thought to start with E2 but if you want to advance to later episodes no problem. BUT I thought to just keep the idea of the game and the outcome of what is happening, this would be our game and not a replica of the games. Things that happen in the game might not happen as so on.

Yeah, I gotcha.  Or maybe, there could be plot points that intertwine with events from the games.  It's be cool to be fighting alongside the Redfields, or Leon.  But, again, if you want to build the game around a new storyline, go right ahead. :) It'd be cool.

I'd suggest doing it via the fall of Umbrella story arc. As it's a LOT of mystery to it still and it involved more then just those pivotal characters.

Sounds good to me.  If you want to discuss plot points and such, I'd be happy to do that.  I plan on just being a player eventually, though, so I don't know how much help I can be without knowing things in advance. I even have a character in mind already.

No problem avia, unless you feel to be a second gamemaster that is ;)... well to keep this kind of game running I would want a group of four and it seems as we already have that. Can I get a show of hands those that want to play?

I'm in.  As both a player and a GM, if you want.  *already has a character idea*

I am posting this just to inform anyone concerned, though I did pm the person who had the idea in the first place, that I am respectfully withdrawing from the game. Just so your not expecting x amount of players who posted that they might be interested, and being surprised when I am not playing. I hope you find the players and have lots of fun.
