Lustful Bride

"We are neither fully of the light, or of the dark, for both are limitations placed on The Force. The Ashlan, The Bogan, The Bendu. These terms all limit the encompassing power that surrounds us, binds us, guides us, and serves us in equal measure. This power, which is older than either the Jedi or the Sith, has no desires or orders. It simply is, was, and will be." ~Grandmother Zeroni, Nightsister elder of the Shattered Moon Clan.

"There is no good without evil. But evil must not be allowed to flourish. This is how we maintain the balance."~ Seeker Jorus Ebonvar. Force user and tutor to members of the Shattered Moon Clan.

"you must not forget what Dathomir has given you. Although space is cold and empty, Dathomir's wilderness is lush and rich. It may be years before you return, so never forget the place that birthed and nurtured you—you will always be a Nightsister."
~Mother Talzin to Asajj Ventress.

"I believe the Emperor himself was afraid of the Nightsisters. That's why he interdicted this planet. Years ago, he started a nice little penal colony here, not knowing about the Nightsisters. When he learned about them, he blew the planet's airfield from orbit and stranded hundreds of his own people here, along with the prisoners, rather than risk letting Gethzerion escape."~Leia Organa, to Han Solo.

Although humans and Zabrak have been born, lived, and died on Dathomir, the truly unique Dathomirians are near-humans who practice a strange blend of magicks and alchemy that touches the force in a way that is alien to even the Jedi and Sith Those have this power make up the clans collectively known as known as The Nightsisters. Generations of genetic drift and exposure to the planet’s power from the dark side of the Force have created a distinct people and culture focused on self-determination, strength, and discipline. They existed for ages without need or fear of the wider galaxy, until the machinations of Palpatine, and the actions of one of their own brought down the wrath of the Sith lords upon their home world, and drove them into near extinction, not unlike the Jedi that they once scoffed at.

But for as many of those who died on the Night of Endless Tears, the CIS and the Sith missed out on many others who were able to survive and evade them. Either through skill, through subversion, stealth, luck, or the sacrifice of others to allow the Nightsisters to escape.

When most think of the Nightsisters, they think about the group directly under the control of Mother Talzin, but that is only one facet of the various clans and orders within the collective umbrella of the Nightsisters. There are many sects of the Nightsisters present on Dathomir, and several sects of it that existed off the planet as well. When Mother Talzin brought down the wrath of the Confederacy and their armies of endless, lifeless, drones, the sects that were still on Dathomir suffered terribly, but others escaped to survive another day.

On the dayside of the planet, a clan of the Nightsisters known as the Wind-Rivers (due to where they made their home), heard of what was happening on the Nightside, the elders of the clan could even feel the deaths of so many Nightsisters happening at once, and began to take action. They gathered what supplies they could, commandeered ships from any which were available, prioritizing saving the younglings and those who could protect them, as well as only what valuables could be carried by hand, including that which they could trade to mercenaries for protection once they were out of the system.

Under the guidance of Grandmother Zeroni, Mother Leilana, and Elder Sister Edalia they were able to survive the purge brought on by the Separatists. It wasn't without costs, many of their sisterhood died, as did many of the people who looked to them for spiritual guidance in the surrounding towns and hamlets. But the main heart of the sisterhood itself survived. A temple could be rebuilt, ancient scrolls could be recovered, rituals could be preserved. But lives needed to be saved. For without a people, a religion is nothing but silly words and dances.

Almost a dozen older sisters, two dozen younglings (a mix of Nightbrothers and Nightsisters), and a handful of civilians (including expectant mothers who were going to hand over their daughters to the sisterhood) were able to escape on three ships. Originally there had been five ships that were set to take off. But two of them had been caught on the ground by Separatist droid fighters, and were lost with all hands. What saved the Nightsisters was the presence of their three elders, who used their connection to the true Force, in order to hide them from even mechanical scanners, giving them a much needed head start into a neutral system, where they could lick their wounds, hire on mercenary protection, guides, and flee to the outer rim, even into the unknown portions of the Galaxy, and finally find a home safe from the Sith, and eventually from the Empire.

In the end, the Nightsisters were nearly exterminated, the survivors forced to scatter to the stars. The Wind River clan only survived by the bravery of those who stayed behind, the wisdom of the elders, and a pretty bit of coin paid to Mandalorian Mercenaries to help guide them along for five months. Sometimes those among their number even had to offer 'other' services, be it in spiritual matters, assassination work, or...pleasures of the flesh, in order to ensure the survival of their order and traditions.

There is no shame in it, one does what one must to survive. Even the sisters who had to give of their body were embraced by the remaining sisters, as it would bring new life and new members to their order in a time when every life was precious.

Many of their people had died since that tragic night, but the order survived and finally had a chance to begin anew. For almost three full years the surviving Nightsisters fled through space, never settling down in one location, losing some more of their number to sickness, until they eventually found sanctuary on a world known as Typhon 7.

It was just past the edge of Imperial control, and was a near inhospitable world with frequent meteorite strikes from its crumbling moon, and with jungles full of violent animal life, and even aggressive plants. In a way it was just like Dathomir, only brighter and with more oceans.

The only major city on the planet was one built with its back to the sea and its front to the vast jungles of the inner continent, while still having a massive defensive wall to keep out the beasts. The city was a corporate stronghold meant mostly for farming biomass, medicinal plants, and sometimes acting as a tourist trap for the rich or for Big Game Hunters. The planet shouldn't have been much of a home for the Nightsisters, but Grandmother Zeroni decreed that this was where they would finally put down roots, and so they set down on the planet and began to figure out their next steps. She felt that this world held the future for the Nightsisters, and she would see this investigated.

The city wasn't hospitable to the Nightsisters, too much corporate control and too many people asking questions. So, they instead found comfort beyond its walls, traveling for four days and nights without rest, until they finally found what Grandmother Zeroni had felt through the Force. It was an ancient temple hidden among waterfalls in an otherwise violent jungle. The temple's purpose, and its builders, were completely unknown. The structure was ancient even by the standards of the Sith and Jedi.

But for as little information as it gave, it provided the Nightsisters with much more, a wealth of power from The Force, a sanctuary to hide away from the Sith, and most importantly, it provided them with a safe home to begin truly rebuilding their people.

It was a new beginning for the Wind-River Nightsisters, so much so that they conducted a ceremony, as one of their first acts, and took on a new name for themselves, one to reflect their journey, and what they had found. A new beginning for a new sect of the Nightsisters, yet one who had suffered to get where they are now. Thus they took their name from  Typhon's Tears, the shattered moon that hung above them every night and rained down meteorites upon the planet constantly.

They would be the Shattered Moon Clan, and under the guidance of their honored elders, they would begin anew. This was not to be the end of the Nightsisters, but just a new chapter in their story.

It has now been twenty years since the Nightsisters were forced to flee Dathomir. Many of the newer members of their sisterhood have little to no memory of their homeworld. Typhon 7 and the hidden temple is the only thing that they have known all their lives. As well as the modified lessons that the three Elders have been teaching them to survive under the thumb of the Empire, and being hunted by Inquisitors.

Before the fall of Dathomir, concepts such as allowing men positions of power over the Sisters, or bringing in Jedi would have never been considered. Especially not bringing in elements of the dogmatic mindset that they normally rejected, but they needed it if they wanted to survive. Especially when a proper instructor all but fell into their laps.

A Force user had come to them five years ago, having sensed the power within the temple, and how it had affected the many newborns who had been born within the temple, giving them a closer affinity to The Force than was normal for their kind.

At once their powers were both subtle (in the way that the Dathomiri Witches normally employed) and also overt, in the ways that the Jedi and Sith employed. The Nightsisters and Nightbrothers were having trouble balancing their abilities, and so the order needed the help of an outsider anyway. For as much as some of the older members of the sisterhood still roll their eyes at him, Seeker Jorus Ebonvar has been invaluable to them. In teaching them how to avoid Inquisitors, telling them the state of the galaxy, and helping the more powerful force sensitives to use their powers.

Jorus Ebonvar does not consider himself Sith or Jedi. He is only a Seeker of Truth. He wants to understand the Force in all its aspects, yet holds on to some of the dogmas of the two main religions dedicated to the Force. In exchange for being allowed to study the temple, and some of the teachings of the Nightsisters, he will aid in ensuring all the younglings who are growing up with a high level of force sensitivity will be able to make use of their powers  properly.

Grandmother Zeroni is pushing the limits of her own powers in keeping herself alive. She sometimes longs to truly let go and become one with the Force. But she cannot leave until she is certain that the Nightsisters will do well without her guiding hand on all things.

That is why she is pushing them to be more dynamic, flexible, and able to break free of dogma as needed. Among these efforts are her own attempts at creating Seekers among the Nightsisters, pushing their Force sensitive members to go out into the Galaxy and seek out that which might ensure the long-term survival of the Nightsisters, especially as the Galactic Civil War is going into full swing, and times of chaos like this present just as much opportunity as risk. It all depends on if you are willing to take that chance, and how good you are at turning a bad situation into a victory.

The Empire will be distracted by the Rebel Alliance, and the Nightsisters could strike now to turn the galaxy (or at least a small part of it) towards an outcome which will ensure their survival and growth.

Among those chosen to be a Seeker, is one member of the new generation of Force Sensitive Nightsisters who was born of a mercenary and one of the Nightsisters, who had to give her body to assure their continued service when monetary payment wasn't available. She is not the best of the sisters, or the smartest, or strongest, but she is instead the most determined of them. She is always held back by her fears, a fear of failure, of death, of losing her sisters, but she always pushes through it to do what was needed for the good of the sisterhood. This alone made her a useful seeker, even without the strength of her connection to the force.  This is why Grandmother Zeroni chooses her to be among the first Seekers to be sent out by the Nightsisters.

Savra (Sava) Jen Jalsaz was among the newborn Nightsisters, who were born and raised on Typhon 7. She has no memory of anyother life beyond this, has no idea of the loss that the older members of the sisterhood endured in anything beyond the stories told to them. But she still longs to set things right and end the pain her sisters feel.

She is now in her 22nd year of life and has held off on several of the rituals of the Nightsisters, in order to be of more use to the sisterhood outside of their temple than within it. Though she has an understanding of witchcraft, her studies have been divided between the rituals of the Sisters, and the lessons taught to her by Seeker Jorus in using the force and the supposedly 'civilized' weapon of the Jedi and Sith.

Honestly, Sava prefers her powerbow, but she never skimped on her lessons to learning how to use multiple weapons, as dictated by Mother Leilana, even when Elder Sister Edalia sometimes invited her to skip off on her solo training for some stealth training instead.

It's all been useful in preparing her for the last of her trials. Sava and her sister Seekers (and maybe even a few lucky Nightbrothers) will be finishing their training by going deep into the temple, where none but the four elders were ever allowed to go. There, they will face a test like no other.

"What's inside?" Several of the Seekers ask, looking into a near pitch black room, with no sound, no light, no warmth.

"Only what you take with you." Grandmother Zeroni declares, and begins ushering each sister. They take with them their best weapons, their tools, hidden things that they hope to sneak past the elders. Then it comes to Sava, and she makes a decision that no one expected.

Sava takes nothing but the clothes on her back with her. She even leaves behind the training saber given to her by Elder Jorus. She trusts in the Force, in whatever form it may take to guide her. Walking into the darkness, she gives herself over to it fully, and it responds by throwing her worst nightmares back at her.

Sava witnesses the burning of Dathomir, sees visions of Stormtroopers stepping on the charred corpses of her sisters on Typhon 7, sees all memory of her people turning to dust, and then she sees herself. A sniveling coward, too afraid to do anything other than cower away and plead for her other self to leave.

Sava protests, tries to argue that it isn't true, and lies to herself that she isn't afraid, only for her double to grab her by the neck, and reflect the truth back at her.

"You stink of fear!" Sava's double screamed into her face, and she looked into the eyes of herself a thousand times over. It was true, she was afraid. She was afraid of many things, and had been even left paralyzed by it before...but she would always push through it and do what was necessary, for herself, but especially for her sisters.

Sava wraps her arms around her fearful self, and pulls it in, refusing to let go even as her other self beats and claws at her, acting more like an animal, until the darkness around her consumed them both.

Then she (and all the other Seekers) awaken to the doors being opened up, light flooding an empty room decorated in strange carvings. All the sisters are shaken, but they have passed their trial. Tonight, comes the celebration as the sisters are assigned their new duties based on the results. Some will be tasked to work on Tyhphon 7, others within the system, and a lucky seven will be chosen to go even beyond the system itself on special missions that will be as dangerous as they will be rewarding.

The chosen seven are separated from the others when the party begins to die down, and kneel before the elders as their duties are bestowed upon them, and they learn what is expected of the worthiest of all the Nightsisters.

"You have passed your trials in a way none of your other brothers or sisters ever even attempted. This makes you worthy of duties which few would dare to dream of, and fewer amongst us would succeed at. What came before was a prologue to your duties. Now comes the real test. It will take some time to get things in order, so you can still prepare yourselves. But you and your sisters will be going with Elder Jorus when the time is right." Declares Mother Leilana.

"But...why us?"

"Because you embody everything that we are trying to teach here. To make our sisterhood flexible, inventive, and able to survive anything the universe throws at us, even if it means thinking outside the box, or doing things which other sisters might frown upon." Elder Sister Edalia answered.

"Where are we going?"

"To build your own lightsabers." Elder Jorus tells them, as he holds out his own blade to the air, and ignites it, casting the room in a golden glow, as the former temple guard watches the amazement in their eyes reflected back at him and at his weapon. They'd only had swords or (if they were lucky) training sabers to practice with up until now. But soon they will be given a chance to have one of the most sought-after weapons in the galaxy. Even the proudest of the Nightsisters, who has only seen value in their own people's weapons, can't help but smile at the thought of having a lightsaber of their own.

With a final word from Grandmother Zeroni, they are then told of how their branch of the sisterhood will be much more than a special little club, and each one begins to understand the honor bestowed upon them.

"No longer will you just be Nightsisters. But from now on, you will be part of a special caste all your own. You will henceforth be known as Sisters of the Force."

I will be honest right up front. Yes, I know this is a bit mary sue ish, especially what with leaning into the Gray Jedi trope and trying to double up with the whole Nightsisters who also get Jedi training. XD I admit it and embrace it!  This is full on Rule-Of-Cool!  8-)

I am looking to play Sava and start out some kind of story based on the premise detailed up above. Beyond that I'm not entirely sure where I want to take this, but I'd love to discuss it and work things out further to see where we will go :P

I have never played the Fantasy Flight Games of Star Wars up until now, so extreme patience (and probably some handwaving and Rules-light/homebrew elements) will be needed on my behalf.

I'm hoping to find someone who knows the system (or a similar system) well enough to make gameplay easy but I am hoping for a more cinematic, fun, focus on the game, not thirty minutes looking at charts to figure out how to open a door or swing a lightsaber a single time. I'm perfectly fine with smut being present in this game, but only when it works in the story and doesn't derail things, so don't expect a sex scene in the first page or even the first five pages.

If you are interested feel free to PM me and we can see what works for us and if we mesh well enough to start a game. Take care and may the force be with you in the night ;)
