I don't have the Dragon-Blooded supplementary sourcebook... does it get into any detail about Lookshy's sorcery academy?  That sort of study could be a big part of a Scavenger Lord's background (and the method they gather motes).

I will be playing the exaltation when the time comes.  It will be a large moment for the group as a whole, so not entirely, but in that obviously the reactions and such yes.
