X-alt Class 5 (ExVsWoD)

Once more, I'm gonna try a group PBP game and see if I can better get the kind of rhythm it needs. So here's the windup and the pitch.

2012, seven consecutive Mondays from April 2nd to May 14th are spent finishing up the paperwork, bribes, and backdating to make the founding and construction of the Ju In-gong Competitive Combat Training Center less the rushed affair that it is and to hopefully avoid some of the things the better prognosticators see coming for Daejeon and the Church of the Spirit World in particular. The greater supernatural factions in this part of Korea aren't going to cause anything, simply because Tae-min's organization had always been bleeding supernatural support in occasional spurts so even if the specifics are vague, there's at least enough writing on the walls to plan around. The only real risk is that nobody involved really wants to stop at just a glorified gym. The future will pay for it.

It's 2014 now, and while the butcher's bill for all the magic used in the beginning is starting to come due, as long as it doesn't threaten the (partially theoretical) efficiency of Abbreviated Elevator School-Sports College-Big Fight Leagues or the two schools' images too much, the supernaturals in charge are willing to give it a minimal papering over with perhaps less attention than they should. This is why there is a multi-purpose room that's shared by the elevator school and the college, but never seems to actually be used. It's also apparently less watched than it should be, because nobody noticed what happened last night and the half-skeletal demon-thing with a snake-belt or snake-crotch was somehow the least outrageous thing.

Pretty much regardless of if you came here to be a big martial arts star, a top manager, or a well respected trainer (or were attending for some other reason) the attack and the change that happened during it unfortunately did end up exposing something wrong in the state of Korea. More than just the suspicious rumors of bribes to the New Frontier Party. And whatever it happens to be, it seems interested in you personally and as you've seen dangerous.


But now you are Chosen, and the world has long forgotten the might of the rulers of old in the face of calamity.




Yeah, so some of the stuff I've been reading and consuming recently gave me an Idea. Unfortunately it was taking way too much time and effort to properly get from in my head to the digital page, so I went and looked at other stuff and, well, this. Break out your favorite 20th, get the Exalted vs WoD pdf (and companion if you want more charms) and figure out both what they're at In-gong for and what level they're at.

And while my setup is assuming both an Exalt and no real previous knowledge of the supernatural, don't feel constrained by that. I just didn't want to make a mess of spoiler boxes, trying to find all the perspectives from the great expanse that is the old World of Darkness. A mess of spoiler boxes and trying to put in lots of details was what my last idea choked on.

Well, there's at least a spark of interest, and I'm pretty available to answer questions if anyone wants to field some.

A few related questions I'd like to ask:

The caste abilities correspond with V20.  Should we assume that that's the proper list of Abilities?

20A uses a vast swath of similar but ultimately different systems, especially with regards to combat.  V20 and M20 use a different Multiple Actions system than W20 does (IIRC that one they explicitly say to go with DAV20, but what they actually have in the book is different than what DAV20 says).  V20 uses different rules for melee weapons than W20 and M20.  M20 has various Martial Arts rules that don't exist in V20 or W20.  C20 and Wr20 likewise exist but I don't know those in as exceptional of detail.

I think the Companion suggests just defaulting to V20, but I wanted to ask if that's something you'd want to do.

Likewise, should we focus on the specific Backgrounds as pointed out in specific books?  Destiny in Mage is really crappy, but the Destiny background for living characters in Wraith is seriously awesome.

It's minor stuff, to be sure, but it's the equivalent of asking before you start playing Monopoly, "Are we putting money on Free Parking?"  Things can diverge pretty fast if we're playing multiple parallel games with minor differences.

That's the main set of abilities, although if you want to bring something else in as a secondary ability, I'm open with the exception of Brawl. Brawl is MA is not Do, but otherwise you're treating Brawl as whatever style you're using if you're using. Put it down in the specialty space if you're using a fillable sheet or feel free to put down your style (should you have one) instead if you're finding a formatted sheet on here.

So similarly, I am stealing some of the MA tricks from M20, but using ExVWoD multiple actions and Initiative as written. I'll probably be using M20 and V20 as basics where the ExVWoD book and the Companion aren't or are silent.

In a more general sense, I'd generally say take the better form (for you) of a background between sources, but in the specific of Destiny being asked about, that variation seems to be Orpheus stuff, which hasn't quite happened and probably isn't happening to a large degree. Also far, far stronger than Fate or Destiny. Also also, use the 5 dot background scale.

Although on a more temporary basis, you could make something like the Orphean Destiny as a Fortune Ritual (Hedge Magic) or search for a likely spell to bring over from the Book of 3 Circles. If you go for the Hedge Magic route, it'd probably be a 2 or 3 dot ritual depending on the maxima you want to hit.
