You could tie it to The Sons of Atlantis and their beleif that--if humanity gets too powerful--"gods" will destroy human civilization. 

I know how it works in Eden Universe, but you could do it any way you want. 

Or maybe the Sons of Atlantis are completely wrong and they're just gearing up for a war that's never going to happen.

I absolutely love M&M, it’s my go to supers setting. I have a campaign written already it’s my take on Days off Future Past I call it Nightmares of Future Past. It’s definitely in the Marvel universe but I can easily make it any universe.
