Turn Off Avatars?

I'm probably being very silly here, because I know that there is a way to hide avatars, but for the life of me I can't find where it is...

Help, please? Public browsing can be a bit awkward with avatars at times

Hey! You click profile and then go to the look and layout option on the left-hand side. Make sure the ' Don't show users' avatars' option is checked.
