Awwww nooooo big bird voice actor is no longer with us either?

Need more comforting voices, cause I miss Tim Curry's voice too but poor fellow is having a hard time.
David Attenborough is a classic voice, and he's still alive. 99 years old and still working. He has a movie coming out this year.

Oooo he voices over the animal shows and such? It looks like?

That is something else I shall miss about youth, being able to just take the time to experience nature second hand more often. I mean first hand is possibly more preferable in some instances but... second hand is not too bad. I ponder if more adult spaces would be approachable if they had such things running instead of news or sports.

He had a fairly major movie role recently.  Although I don't think 'mastermind behind serial-killer battle royale' is necessarily 'comforting'.  https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000347/

Found out today that my coworkers have never heard of 'Shaft'.  Can you dig it?   ???

Did that movie finally come out? I wasn't sure when it was meant toooooo, I remember hearing rumors about him being in something but I have not seen it! Something new to do to be sure. (( I'm sure he could comfort me to deat- Life, living longer. Surely. I'm sure. ))

It hasn't quite hit me yet, but I feel like it will pretty soon. Atm probably the fact some of the earliest bands I listened to of my own accord aren't even dad rock anymore but closer to granddad rock.

My parents were already parents for a while when that stuff was coming out. Like City of Evil by A7X is twenty years old this year.

Edit: Nvm, just realized Adventure Time has been out for fifteen years this year.

The fact Emo/Scene stuff is making a comeback makes me feel pretty old. Both the fact that it's been long enough for it to make a comeback, and the fact that kids growing up now are as as old as I was when my parents were listening to musicians like Prince and I felt like it was music from another eon.

I never really stopped listening to that sort of stuff tbh, It just felt like a guilty pleasure for a little bit.

Thinking on what makes me feel old... had my buddy over and his young son. His son saw my collection of old PS1 and PS2 games and had never seen a 'real game' before. All the games on his Switch are downloaded. So that was kinda wild!

It was fun to show him how to run the systems and to play the games. They might be old, but still Gold in my opinion!

Faceless Tragedian

I never thought about that, but that's one. I honestly forget that physical media is sort of a thing of the past now. I'm glad I managed to get stuff like the first few Silent Hill games on ps2 before they rose in price. Most people these days probably just emulate everything.

No joke, my buddy looked at my collection and apparently stuff like Silent Hill, is stupid expensive. I was honestly quite shocked by that one! I am sitting on a little goldmine I guess... but I am like a dragon so I shall horde it and continue to play with them!

LostInTheMist

I hadn't even considered physical media, but I remember waiting with bated breath for new games to show up. I remember waiting for "Sim Isle" for a very long time as a tornado had destroyed or damaged a FedEx distribution center  that year (possibly 1995.) Now the longest time I've had to wait lately for a new game to arrive was Baldur's Gate 3 because it took a rather long time to download over 150 GB of game.

Man Sim Isle brings back some memories. I wanted to play the crap out of that, but back then I was a console kid. No Pc till highschool for me.

I was the guy who thought it was cool to invite his buddies over and play Diablo 2 on Lan. Man... the four of us had a blast.

One of my favorite highschool memories was playing a Lan party all night on a Thursday, which was rare to get the guys over on a school night, and it was snowing BAD, and we were in luck, snow day! Got to play all day Friday! Mom made us grilled cheese and tomato soup and we drank way too much Mountain Dew. Good times! Still love playing Necromancers from that game haha!

Tomato Soup is the ONLY acceptable side dish for grilled cheese sandwiches. I still religiously cut my grilled cheese sandwiches along the diagonal axis, because that's the way grilled cheese sandwiches are supposed to be cut.

I was too young to really appreciate or understand Sim Isle. I kinda wish I could play it now, but I get my jollies out of Tropico for the most part. Particularly Tropico 4. I liked the innovations of 5 and 6, but while the mechanics changed, the leader customization (which I really liked) got minimized. (Although I enjoy the "constitution" stuff that was introduced in 5, [only wealthy citizens get to vote, and they're all wealthy because of me, industrializing the island and making them all rich] and particularly expanded in 6.)

Tropico is good fun! I have played 4 and like it a lot! I tend to nerd out with Crusader Kings now though when I am on PC, and a buddy got me Kingdom Come Deliverance, and that has stolen a lot of my time haha

Same 100%. I'd have to need the money pretty badly before I got rid of of some of them. I don't really care about having a little extra money one paycheck, I feel like I'd never be able to get them again if I sold them.

I do love me Crusader Kings 3. I played a ton of Crusader Kings 2, but CK3 surpassed my official play time just recently, and once the map expansion to China and Japan comes out (later this year), I imagine that CK3 will surpass even Stellaris.

But to get back on topic, let's see, things that make me feel old....

When I was in high school, some classes prohibited using the internet to get information because not everybody had a home internet connection, and Wikipedia was not seen as a credible source, because anybody could edit it. Even in college, they told us not to use Wikipedia, even though it had been demonstrated time and again that Wikipedia was more accurate than Brittanica. But anyone with half a brain could look at Wikipedia for information, and then cite the source Wikipedia cited for certain information instead of Wikipedia itself, and the University quietly gave up on the ban some time in my Sophomore year.

I first voted in the 2006 elections, coming up on 20 years ago. I've now voted in more elections in my lifetime than not.

I think you are right. If you sold them now? They won’t be cheap to get back.

Here is another thing, looking at physical media, to make us feel old: some of those early PlayStation discs, if not stored well… are starting to show signs of corruption. Like the discs are starting to rot somehow. I am not wise enough, or well versed enough to explain it well.. so forgive me on that end. I saw a guy on Reddit showing off a disc that had tons of these little pin prick holes, Apprently that is the start of this rot. If I can find the post I will be sure to link it for any interested.

Today what makes me feel old is that I read 2 and a 1/2 of the books from the Twilight book series... and that started roughly 20 years ago....

Remembering back to all those times... when people were fangirling over things... Edward and.... Jacob was it?

There were several other things people fangirled over that got super scary intense...

Fangirls do be terrifying...

The first job I had was minimum wage, and at that time the minimum wage in our state was $7.50 an hour. Conservatives had kept it stuck at that rate for decades, fearing rampant inflation and the collapse of civilization as we know it if the minimum wage ever went up. (It's now $15.11 [indexed to inflation] an hour, and civilization has not collapsed.)

Me over here wishing this would spread....

There are still a good chunk of the states who keep to the 'federal minimum wage' of 7.25... Mine has since I started working myself. They also have tons of jobs that purposely don't permit you to work a certain amount of hours, just so they don't have to give you insurance. My youngest brother is having to deal with that garbage right nowwww. On top of that they put the 'locker rooms' so far away from the working space that there isn't enough time in the '30 minute lunch break' or 'dinner' break period to get there, get food, and get back. Which reminds me of my old work place when I first started working, where I tried to just skip lunch half the time because there was so little time. (( But of course then I got in trouble for having clocked in too long. ))

So I guess today what makes me feel old is that... I still have my first pay stubs that my mum told me to keep 'for the record.' From fifteen years or more agooooo. The memory of mistreatment in so many ways.... remains fresh in my mind. Had to quit that job for my own safety eventually. ~

I worked at a place where the break room was a good 5-minute walk away from my desk, and the bathrooms were the same, and you were given 7 minutes a day for bathroom breaks, so if you went to the bathroom at all during the 8-hour shift, you were marked down. They didn't have anything smaller than a half day mark, so if you were 1 second late getting back from your break or from lunch, you might as well go home, unless you really needed the money, because they'd mark you down half a day.

The job that immediately followed that gave you a 1-minute grace period, and I was working from home, so I was never late signing in, or getting back from my break unless my home internet went down, which happened once in awhile. Only trouble with that was chronic migraines from staring at a screen for so long everyday. Now that I don't have to do that in my job, the migraines have gone away for the most part. I still have one or two a season, but it's not five to seven a month.

Mmmm goodness gracious. Mine was a thrift shop of sorts. Had a big warehouse type place in the back, then biggo store in the front. The amount of sick days you were allowed were so few that so many people would come to work sick, including myself, to just survive. (( This was back long before we all got into wearing masks to try to help a bit more with lessening the spread of sickness. )) I myself ended up with loads of sinus infections while working there... They really worked me half to death I truly do believe. Then with one of my friends, she ended up with a bad ankle and asked to be able to sit down more often on the job. They told her no, and that they would have to let her go if she did have such a 'serious' injury that would keep her from working properly.

Then a week or so later. Guess whaaaaaat? A different person had similar doctors note, but WAS given a seat to sit down on pretty much 100% of the time they were working.

The amount of fairly messed up things that happened at that place... I could likely write a book about but I think I'd get sued up the wazooooo if I ever did? Especially considering I don't have photographic or video evidence of the goings on. To back up what really did occur.
