Extra Curricular: AUDITING CLASSES
This extracurricular activity means the student sits in on extra classes in hopes of better grades. She gains a +2 to Scholarship for the semester, but suffers a –1 to Persuasion and Performance with other students for missing social activities and generally making them self-conscious of their own study habits.


Background:
Kaila comes from a very large, very poor family in a very poor town.  As luck would have it, she was blessed with athletic talent more than her academic drive and it likely saved her, at least temporarily from perpetuating the cycle of poverty that poor families often find themselves in. 

Kaila has worked part time since she was fourteen years old and lied about her age to work part time delivering groceries.  She was working full time by 16 and her education suffered when she rebelled against what she felt was the uselessness of an education.  The only thing that kept Kaila in school was sports.  She was on her high school volleyball, soccer, and softball teams but it was softball that she excelled in.  In order to keep playing, she had to keep her grades up, which she did.  Barely. 

Kaila knew she was good, very good, but she never expected to receive offers to play in college.  When the offers started coming in she was shocked.  College had never been a consideration for Kaila.  They were too expensive, and her grades were okay but not great.  Most of the offers were partial scholarships, but East Texas University offered to pay for her tuition and books for all four years.  It was an offer she couldn’t pass up and one her parents wouldn’t let her pass up.

I am not sure!  Neither of Athem's characters for the previous pitch were jocks, not sure what the current one is like.

Is this System similar/not-so-similar to a Powered by the Apocalypse game?

I have no experience with PBtA. Savage Worlds is very easy to use.

- Attributes and Skills have a die (d4,d6,d8, d10, d12, d12+1, and d12+2). Both are considered Traits.
- The GM will ask for a (insert trait) roll. Anything over a 4 after any modifiers is a success and every 4 above that (8,12,etc.) is a raise. Raises increase the level of success. The only Trait that works differently is Fighting where the target number is based on the target’s Parry (2+1/2 Fighting Skill. A character with d4 Fighting has a Parry of 4). Opposed rolls vary as well. Notice verse Stealth for example.

- There are tokens called Bennies that can be used to reroll a Trait roll as long as it wasn’t a Critical Fail. They are also used to try and soak (avoid) damage. Bennies can also be used to affect the story narrative at the GMs discretion. You begin with 3 (usually) and gain them through good Roleplay or whenever the GM feels like you have earned one.

- Edges are special abilities.

If you want to see the game system in action I highly recommend checking out Wildcards on the TheSavingThrow YouTube channel. They did over 4 seasons of Deadlands and went through ETU completing the Plot Point Campaign. Though if you watch the ETU stuff there will be spoilers.

It is not like PbtA.  It isn’t a hard system by any means, but not as rules light as PbtA.
