So, I'm new. Hey. Thanks for the welcome. This plays is awesome so far.

As you guys probably know, starting out can be a little overwhelming. So, does anyone want to be a guiding hand? I haven't done o/o's yet but I can say I'm feeling fairly human and heteronat the moment. That's not always the case and that doesn't mean that everyone else in the universe has to be.

I love celebrities but that can extend so far as inspirations for other characters, which I've noticed many people here do already. I also love fandoms and such. I don't have a huge mind for high fantasy but could totally get down on some system play with a patient group and DM. I don't know tons of systems but am thirsty to learn.

I hope this post fits and makes sense and that I hear from people soon.

I'm not a mentor or anything, but let me give you two advices.
First, bring your O&Os in serviceable order. When you offer a game for others, that's how other people know whether you're a good fit for their tastes, and if you don't have them, you might be passed over on that grounds alone. (There's people I avoid based on their O&Os not matching with mine, but that is probably to our mutual advantage, because we don't waste each other's time).

Second, socialise with people in the non-game forums. Try to offer games to people you already know from there.

Hey there PC. Welcome to E!

It’s a pretty welcoming community here, so you don’t need to be too shy about jumping in to whatever game is open for recruitment. That said, it can help to set out some criteria. A few things that spring to mind:

  • Story or Smut: This is usually the biggest decision (well, aside from Group v Solo). Most games will have a bit of both, but they tend to lean heavily in one direction or another. Both can be fun, so it really depends on what you’re looking for.
  • System or freeform: Is it a deal breaker if it’s not a system-based game?
  • Sandbox or story driven: Some people prefer one over the other. Again, each have their merits, but most people tend to have a preference.
  • Preferred settings: You’ve said high fantasy isn’t your ideal setting. What about sci fi? Or post apoc? Or contemporary supernatural? Etc, Etc.
  • Player roster: Sometimes there’s going to be an imbalance of characters, especially when it comes to things like gender or sexual orientation. Are you okay playing a game with lots of male characters? Alternatively, are you willing to play as a female character?

You’ll rarely find a roleplay that ticks every single box, obviously, but it’s still useful to set out these sorts of limits, especially when strangers are trying to gauge the sorts of games you’d enjoy.

Other than that, I’d echo what Thufir had to say about getting your O&O’s set up. I know, I know, you're here to RP, not fill out forms... but it's important. Your O&O page doesn't need to be anything fancy, and you can always check the pages of other players to get a sense of what kind of info you want to post. Other than that, it’s always handy to get the rest of the profile set up with an avatar and personal text. I know it can be a little daunting getting started, but it goes both ways: it’s just as daunting for existing players to recruit you when you’re a total unknown. Filling out your profiles, even with just the absolute basics, is a huge bonus when people are looking for players.

Just another friendly person saying hi and offering a bit of advice. I have been here for two years now and I Love it. The most important thing you need to do is get to know people. The Adult socializing threads are helpful. The discussion boards are good too. Here is a thread I was sent in the beginning and it helped me a lot.

There is this one as well:

It takes time to find your way around. It's a very interesting and versatile place. Take your time and look at other people's writing and see if you can spot someone you think you would like to write with. Send them a PM, offer compliments, but don't go overboard.

By all means set up your On's and Off's thread. The matrix is alright, but a lot of people like to showcase their skills and offer a little more about themselves by posting more in depth.
I have gone off in search of myself. If I should get back before I return, please keep me here.
