QuoteFor two years he stayed a step ahead of the law — stealing cars, powerboats and even airplanes, police say, while building a reputation as a 21st-century folk hero.

Wow.  I actually had not heard of him until this hit the news sites.  I think it's interesting, in a way, he really lived a life you only seen in adolescent action films!

And, as you would expect:

Quote20th Century Fox has purchased the rights for a film based on the exploits of the young fugitive.

Now I wonder if this kid is going to see a red cent of this?

What are your thoughts, E?

I hope he gets some royalties, at the very least.  Of course, if they've purchased the rights, presumably he at least got the money from that...

yeah... but who knows, eh?  I could be wrong but didn't Patch Adams basically get robbed in that respect for the film that was made based on his life?

I also love the fact in reading the articles it goes as follows:

Authorities: "He's a fugitive and must be punished for his crimes. >:("
Fans: "Oh! He's a hero! Free him! >:O"
Mom: "He taught himself how to fly a plane. :')"

If the film company want to screw him over, they'll just do a film "based on" or "inspired by", and then he'll get nothing.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.  I at least hope he puts out a book - that one is sure to be a pretty awesome memoir.

I think the Son of Sam laws prevent a convicted criminal from profiting from things connected to their crime.  I might be wrong with regards to property crimes, though.
