Star Wars - Dark Times (Saga Edition, Interest check)

It has been less than a generation since the end of the Clone Wars.

Only a double handful of years since the Galactic Republic was transformed into the Galactic Empire.



With each passing day, the Empire's grip lies heavier on the Core systems and spreads outwards.

On world after world, the last remnants of opposition to the new order are shattered, with those who oppose the Pax Galactica removed, in order to be appropriately dealt with.




While overt resistance is a passing memory, the sparks of rebellion have begun to ignite.

In the Outer Rim, the Imperial presence lies lightest, though life there is not easy. It is here that one group has begun to organise, and here our story begins.



With a single ship, and a singular crew ..




Is this a system game?
Yes. Rules, characters sheets, rolling funny dice. All of that. Specifically the older Saga edition (since this is the one I'm most familiar with). Specific house rules and character generation to be decided, depending on what people want.

When is it set?
I'm looking at roughly 5 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin). The Dark Times era, going into the early Rebellion era.

Can I play a Jedi?
I'll likely allow one, if someone wants to play one, but they will be relatively untrained. A padawan that escaped Order 66, a survivor of the purge who has been running and hiding for the last 10 years or so, or a force sensitive, newly awakened to their powers.

What about a Droid?
"As a meatbag would say: 'I have a bad feeling about this.'" - HK 47
But aside from that, yes. I believe one of the sourcebooks has rules for Droid PCs.

What about a Mandalorian?
This is the Way.

The game would centre around a small group and their ship. They would be a variety of scoundrels and outcasts, who have ended up in the Outer Rim because of Reasons(TM), either starting as a rebel cell, or becoming one as the game progresses. A little dash of Firefly, a bit of Andor, a touch of Rebels and a lot of Bad Feelings about this.

honestly, a petite and cute girl is what i am considering. i would prefer to go with the nyxad homebrew from another game. but can go human or near human if that is preferred by the gm here, normally play the shadowdancer spy recon type. but i am considering taking a nod from my girlfriend and playing the support type, a Human or Near Human Cheerleader Noble to be precise. who would be the younger sister figure to another player who might be showing interest soon that i am in talks with.

Essentially, the kind of stuff that would go under the "small breasts" and "petite girl" tags on Gelbooru rather than another tag i'd rather not state,

Errrrggghhhhh. I was juuuusst thinking about wanting to run a rebellion oriented SW game. You have my interest. Gonna take a peek at the source books and see what comes to mind. Admittedly I do have a little lean toward a force sensitive type/jedi type out the gate, but only because I so rarely get to play the stereotypical cool thing. So definitely not rooted in that, book review could send me a very different way if there are others who are particularly interested.

not going to steal my girlfriend's aesthetic. but i am going to steal her favored class of aggressive offensive support. Human or Near Human Cheerleader Noble Dabbling in Duelist too. and actually, instead of asking to approve a homebrew nyxad. i'm just going to go with a very nyxad flavored human. the Scholarly and Charismatic Type, Starting Duelist and Growing into Cheerleader.

I took my proposal to Umbrie.  

Idea is I'll be playing a petite girl--maybe twi'lek, maybe human, maybe Ilina's homebrew race of Shadow Maidens, who is a knife fighting Scoundrel.  Umbrie will be playing a Noble cheerleader.  :)

if that race of shadow maidens gets approved. i'd want to be one too. otherwise human is just fine. the Difference is with the Shadow Maidens, i can start with Weapon Finesse and Pick up the Ability to Cheerlead at level 1 to get an aggressive offensive support at level 1. unless we are talking waiving the +1 BAB requirement on weapon finesse. where i can cheerlead and duel off the bat. thinking of leaving my offhand empty in true swashbuckler style so i can open doors and use objects. because as the noble, i'll likely be trained in treat injury.

Proposed to Muse, a Rough Draft for one of these Nyxad Shadow Maidens, as a Vibroshamshir wielding cheerleader noblewoman who can be social, but is also a bit perceptive and also a decent healer. keeps her Shamshir in her left hand, keeps her off hand empty for object manipulation and the like. has a damage threshhold of 6 and speed of 8 squares at level 1. but has an unarmored reflex defense of 16 and a will defense of 15 and fortitude defense of 11. her hands free comms are her headphones. she wears glasses too. carries a blaster pistol backup. the idea, is she is there to use her inspiration to help her scoundrel older sister figure proc sneak attack around level 5ish when she has 18 Dex and 16 Cha before accounting for destiny stuff with about 34 HP or maybe 39 after toughness. not durable, but offensive support is her role. or cheerleader who does chip damage between cheers. her 14 starting wis helps her heal and perceive. she isn't the main frontline. she just has to be really close to the frontline to boost the frontline. she will definitely take surgical expertise as her level 2 bonus feat.

I don't envision the captain as an NPC. It will be up to the group to determine who gets final say in things, if they want to do it that way. Optionally, since there are Destiny's and all, you could wield supreme executive power just ’cause some watery tart threw a sword at you :)

In terms of level, probably about level 3 to start, though I am willing to go a little higher if the group decides they'd prefer that. Exact character creation and house rules to be determined.

Toying with the idea of my usual Person/Place/Thing at chargen to get some additional freebies .. maybe an extra feat, skill points or points to buy stats with (I am looking at points buy for chargen).

In spite of a serious shortage of spoons, pluckily heroic Star Wars is tempting... and on a quick skim-read, the Saga Edition looks to be a significant improvement on earlier d20 attempts.

@HairyHeretic  Are you planning to take separately-created character submissions from everyone and accept the ones that best suit your ideas for the game, or select people who will then work together to create a complementary party (e.g. at least one person to fly the ship, at least one soldier, etc)?

@HairyHeretic  Okay cool so whoever winds up in charge will  be decided by the players that cool.  Yep their is the Codru-ji and Its been a while since I looked  at my saga pdfs/books but their is a source book that has a  few tables to make you own Near human species.

The game is open to anyone, at least as of right now. I don't mind people doubling up on classes, as there's plenty of scope for different characters in the same class. As long as the concept fits the game, it should be fine.
