In the harsh realm known as the Dominion of the North, there is one shining beacon of civilization… Tower City. But even here danger lurks as underneath lies the Monstrous Maze where true to its name all manner of horrors roam. Many a fearless adventurer has found fame and fortune fighting the evils of the Maze but many more have met their doom. Others have encountered something even stranger than what they thought they would. For the last year and a day, some leaving the Maze have found themselves not in Tower City but elsewhere. A place where science has replaced sorcery. A metropolis called… Toronto. And they are not alone either as beings from the realm encircling Tower City have found themselves here as well. Whether man or monster, they must all forge a new path in this world that is so strange to them. They are all…

Greeting and salutations! This freeform concept explores what happens when fantasy characters find themselves in the modern world. Mainly adventuring party sorts but others are welcome. They typically arrive through the Maze but other ways such as coming out from the clouds or emerging from the water do occur. Magic will be limited as characters will be mostly cut off from its source in their world but whatever force is bringing them to Toronto allows some access. Plotwise this would be a slice of life as characters adapt to their new world. They can have arrived at any point in the last year and a day, so the degree of acclimation can vary. Also there will be events as not so good things pop up in the city that only our heroes know how to battle. Plus a sexy recurring villainess because that’s just required.

These are just the broad strokes to gauge interest, there are details already planned. Questions and comments are welcome. Thanks for reading!

EDIT:  Not seeing enough solid interest in this. Thanks to those that chimed it.

Before I plant a flag of interest, I wish to check: do the fantasy beings have to be original characters?
Just your average assistant to a villain.

Yes,  inspiration can be drawn.from canon but these would be original characters.

That guy, you know who did the thing with the other thing. No not that thing!

What's the canon?

None. It's original characters. Not using any existing fantasy universe.  If you wishing to be inspired by something you can be but this will be using original characters not from any pre-existing fantasy literature or media. Hence the world they come from isn't from any pre-existing fantasy universe.

Kissa

What type of faceclaims you were thinking for this game? Do all fantasy characters come from same world or can they come from different worlds to Toronto?

I see, so concepts like a DnD drow sorceror could be drawn from DnD but remain OCs?

Yes, although their sorcery would be limited in Toronto.

"Where science has replaced sorcery," indeed -- if milk in a bag is not sorcery, I do not know what is!

I'm tentatively interested.  A couple of questions:

  • How many Wanderers are there who have crossed over, in total?  (This one may lead down a rabbit hole, so I'll leave it at that for now.)
  • Is this phenomenon occurring elsewhere on Earth, as well?  Or is Toronto unique?
  • It sounds like this trip is both unpredictable and one-way only; is that accurate?

  • The number of known Wanderers at the start will be quite small, as I want the focus to be on the player characters and keeping them special. More can be encountered as things go on, in addition to any big bads that pop up. to accommodate plots and ideas.
  • Wandering seems to be only happening in Toronto, which has some superficial similarities to Tower City (located by a large body of water, underground tunnels, a tower that is much taller than other buildings in the city). In fact magic wielders find that what little connection they have left to the source of their power wanes if they leave the city.
  • As far as is known, that is accurate. The inverse could be possible as a potential storyline, but the initial and major focus is on fantasy characters acclimating to the modern world.

I'm horribly short on spoons at present, but I wanted to poke my nose in and say that I really like this idea.  ;D

What sort of tech-level would be found in Tower City - 'classic' faux-medieval, or something else (Conan-style faux-ancient, Eberron-style magitech, etc)?

Whatever works for your character for the most part You'll not actually be in Tower City so it really isn't a factor. Plus it's sort of like the melting pot metropolis of a fantasy lit/RPG world. People come from other places to seek their fortune there. So a Conan type from the wilds and a steampunk gnome could both find themselves taking a wrong turn and ending up in Canada.

MetroFallout

Tempted to have a bard who finds the works of Kendrick and immediately disses Drake with Vicious Mockery lmao

Thanks!  That being the case, are the Canadians aware that this is happening?  Or is this a secret-world kind of thing?

Secret, at least at the start. What happens as the public starts to find out some of their new neighbors aren't just quirky is something that could be explored.
