Shadow--completed
Name: Jo Cargill
Alias: Shadow
Faceclaim: Frantzcesca Casimir
Home: Neo Angeles

Powers: Jo has an odd conglomeration of Powers caused by both mutations and science. See Below:

  • Superhuman Stamina: Jo's muscles produce fewer fatigue toxins than those of a normal human. She can exert herself physically at her peak for several hours before the build-up of fatigue toxins in her blood begins to impair her.
  • Superhuman Speed: Jo can run and move at speeds that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. She is able to run at speeds around 100 km/h. (a bit over 60 mph)
  • Superhuman Agility and Reflexes: Agility, balance, bodily coordination, and reflexes are enhanced to levels beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.
  • Selective Phasing/Intangibility: Jo can make all or part of her body intangible, thus being able to pass through solid objects as if she were no more than light or air.
  • Phased/Intangible Extension: Through practice, Jo has learned to phase other objects along with herself without harm to them...thus the magical bag of holding.
  • Telepathic Resistance: While she is phased, Jo is harder to read telepathically. Most mind tricks don't work without a sustained effort.
Skills: Okay...this could take a while.

  • Excellent Thief: Comes with the territory.
  • Stealth: She has it.
  • Hand to Hand Combat: Merc trained and street savvy, Jo can throw down with the best of them.
  • Polyglot: Due to her travels, Jo speaks flawless French, Russian, Italian, Spanish, and English.
  • Defensive Driver: She knows how to maneuver any vehicle to get away from YOU.
  • Cooking: She ate MRE's, right? She had to learn to cook in self-defense.
Gear: A girl has to have toys, right??

  • Customized Lockpicking Kit: Obviously, a thief needs good lockpicks.
  • Magical Bag of Holding: It is NOT magic, but once something is in there, you'll never see it again.
  • Safe Cracking Kit: Sometimes, one has to get in there. That is what this is for.
  • Black Cat Suit: It's the gig, ain't it?
  • Weighted Night Stick: Solid wood and polymer construction for helping people take a little nap.
  • 2 H&K 9mm handguns: Rarely carries them, still deadly with them, though.

History: Once upon a time, Jo was a cute little girl who was brought up in a military family by an abusive father, a cowed mother, and a big brother who seemed to be well on his way to being exactly like dear old dad. Things were "normal" enough that Jo managed to get excellent grades in school throughout junior high and was well on her way toward an outstanding high school career as well...and then her brother was killed. Somehow, her father blamed her for the issue, and she paid for it repeatedly.

At 13, her mutation kicked in. At 14, she began receiving these "nutrient shakes" that tasted like crud but helped her body heal from the myriad abuses she was put through. She did not know that these "drinks" were meant for her father. The bastard had foisted them onto her to see what the effects would be. When nothing happened, he tried to take them back. For once, her mother stood up to the man. She told him that he'd not take away something that helped her daughter recover from the stuff he did and that if he tried, she'd turn him into his commanding officer. No one knew that these drinks contained nanites that worked to repair torn muscles and fiddled with her DNA.

As soon as Jo turned 18, she took her mother and fled, leaving the broken mess of a man behind. They ended up in Neo Angeles. Quite a bit happened during the intervening years, including:  four years in the army to help pay for school, joining a mercenary band to help pay for her mother's sudden illness (a tumor located on her left lung), being trained for infiltration and extraction after the truth about her phasing ability came to light as well as a few random bits of violence and mayhem.

She finally left the world of battles, blood, and glory at age 26 and came home to her mother. However, just because she had some money in the bank did not mean bills didn't need to get paid. Thus her newest identity as a cat burglar.  Jo only hits the wealthiest, the elite, and has never killed anyone in her search for the best score. She's been working at this for a year now and is more than competent enough to keep herself in the style to which she's become accustomed.

Relationships: She loves her mother, Hiddaya Cargill, and loathes her father enough that she will not ever say his name. The rest will be worked out during the story.

Personality: Jo is a hardened warrior turned thief who believes the world is out to get her. It is NOT paranoia if it's true, right  That being said, Jo is chameleon-like in her ability to fit in with disparate groups of people. She may behave like a roughneck around her former merc band, while butter wouldn't melt in her mouth around people in authority. That flexibility is simply the mask she wears when she has to socialize. In reality, when left to her own devices, Jo is focused, intelligent, temperamental, a strategic thinker, and a planner. She dislikes change, is awful at making up something on the fly, and does not work well with others unless she has to.

Sexuality: Demisexual | Panamorous

Character Ons/Offs: Jo is demisexual and does not engage in sex acts without being deeply attached to the person she is with. Therefore ons and offs will be discussed with whomever she chooses to mingle body parts with.

Had this weird idea for a mashup of John Constantine, Raven, and possibly Edward Elric or at least in terms of personality and types of abilities Dream of the Endless.

Sounds awesome! Would love to see it.
The only real problem now is finding a suitable picture that would encapsulate that.

ZarkonTheGreat

If you're still recruiting I've got a concept that smashes Dr. Strange, Dr. Fate, and quantum leap together. I'd like to borrow Dr. Fates tower, and how Strange handles magic. The quantum leap portion is that I want his magic tied to the tower, and the tower decides which part of the multiverse he's sent to next. Each "leap" is into that universes physical version of the character. The consciousness doesn't go away, it gets shunted aside to hang out and complain with all the other "Strange Fates." that had been previously been absorbed.
Personality wise I said a mix between Cap and deadpool, but I think that requires a bit more exposition to make sense. I figure he's been getting shunted around for while so still has a strong sense of duty and a need to keep fighting the good fight, but has developed some unhealthy coping mechanisms to keep at it.

Edited to make a bit more sense.

So if I were playing Dr. Strange, would you leap into my character's body, or would you have your own?

ZarkonTheGreat

Dr Stange was mostly about the wizard archetype and Dr. Fates thing of working for order against chaos. As far as supplanting another persons character, I hadn't even considered it and wouldn't without the other players consent and a pretty good story reason.
Regarding the body snatching, think Scarlet witch in multiverse of madness when she dream walked into her other self. It's not something I envisioned as an active power. The tower or some other macguffin decides where the character goes. It's always into another universes version of the character. Think if Toby maguire could transfer his consciousness to the other Spiderman actors, and only to the other Spidermen.
I like the wizard defender concept and wanted to try something different with it.

Avernale

To be clear, by "your own," I mean "The body of a character that isn't mine."  I only ask because I'm playing Dr. Strange already.  I don't think anyone's playing Dr. Fate, though, so as long as you leap into him and not me, I think we're good.

ZarkonTheGreat

We're good, no intention of stepping into Strange or Fate. If DrMcQuack gives me the go ahead I'll clear up the concept before I do anything with it.

Name: Oliver Strange
Alias: The Hood also “Ollie”, “You Selfish Bastard”, “Ollie You Prick”, “Stupid Mortal”, “Shitbag”, “Mother-Fucker” (Most likely figuratively but it’s not a zero percent chance of it being literally)

Faceclaim: Brendan Hines
Home: New York City / Prime Dimension (It felt prime?  Certainly not this one that’s fuckin’ Backwards & Upside Down Town)
Powers:

  • Minor Sorcery - Oliver is the son of the Sorcerer Supreme and quite literally grew up in the Sanctum Sanctorum.  He was surrounded by magic while growing up and continues to be exposed to it.  Because of that, Oliver is capable of casting minor spells but anything beyond that requires a degree of skill that he doesn’t have, doesn’t wish to develop, or hasn’t made the effort to learn.
  • Invisibility - Oliver’s hooded cloak allows him to turn invisible for as long as he can hold his breath. (2 minutes and 22 seconds)  This is magical invisibility which means that this prevents him from being seen by infrared or any manner of technological optics.  He can be detected by sonar/radar however should someone be clever enough to try such a thing.  This does not make him silent.  Footsteps can still be heard if he’s lumbering about like an ox. (He tries to avoid lumbering)
  • Walking on Air - Oliver can do just that because of his boots.  It’s not quite flying but it certainly beats walking.
  • True Sight - Because of the cloak, Oliver can see through all manner of magical, psychic and technological based “illusions”.
  • Enchanted Bullets - If given the time...and if he's actually using his head for once, Oliver can enchant some of the bullets he uses in his pistols to have various unusual effects.
  • Concealment - Oliver has an ancient Babylonian ring made of brass that when worn, he can obscure his face with darkness.  When worn it also makes it very difficult for any manner of divination or scrying spells to locate him.  This also includes “finding him by his thoughts” for any clever psychics out there.  It also makes it impossible to Google "Oliver Strange”.  Seriously. it’s fucked up but it’s true.  Anything that has remotely anything to do with Oliver won’t show up in a Google search because of the ring.  He suspects it’s because Google is run by a bunch of evil elder god fucks.  It’s possible he’s wrong but…nah…he’s right.

Skills:

  • Kung Fu - Oliver knows it!  He learned it from Wong and trained for years alongside Qing.  He would be considered a black belt...if he had actually tried to complete his training.  If demons cared about black belts he would be all set!
  • Pistols - Oliver is getting better at using not just one but both pistols.  For the moment; wielding two pistols simultaneously and holding them in menacing ways is still more effective than actually shooting them both at something.

Gear:

  • Hooded Cloak - Property of Dormmamu and the source for most of Ollie’s powers.  Of late, Ollie has learned that he can change the colour of the cloak simply by concentrating.  Since joining the Avengers he usually keeps it as garish shade of yellow.  At times he’s been known to change it to pink in order to impress a group of high school girls…

    • Boots - Property of Dormmamu and allows Ollie to walk on or run…or skip and tra la la on the air like you and I would on the ground.  They definitely have an arcane and well-worn appearance to them like he stole them from someone cosplayer at a Renaissance Faire.
    • Pistols - Oliver “wields” two .45 caliber pistols that he really has no business using.  Practice makes perfect however and at times if he’s planning ahead he remembers to enchant them or the bullets he’s intending to use.

    History:
Oliver Strange is the (seemingly) only son of Dr Stephen Strange the Sorceror Supreme.  While the Sorceror Supreme is indeed...supreme when it comes to sorcery, he leaves a good deal to be desired when it comes to parenting.  Oliver never really could compete with the problems of the multiverse let alone the myriad dimensions that his father was responsible for protecting.  He'd go weeks or months without any sort of meaningful contact with his father. Wong; ever the devoted servant raised Oliver as best he could.  While capable and devoted, Oliver proved to be a significant challenge for the aging Wong.  He employed the assistance of the sorceress, Jennifer Kale and his younger cousin, Qing to help watch over Oliver.

Oliver and Qing became contemporaries.  Friends but also a bit more complex than that.  Teammates. Competitors.  In time; for a brief moment, even lovers.  Opposites in a number of ways, particularly when it came to discipline and focus.  In this case; Qing had all of it and Oliver had none of it.  She was equal parts frustrated and enamoured with Oliver while growing up together.

As it turned out, Dr. Strange had made a number of intelligent and seemingly timely investments over the years and had amassed an impressive fortune.  This allowed Oliver to live a very easy life; so much so that often, Oliver would go out of his way to make life less easy for himself as well as his three "keepers".

In his early twenties; on a weekend where he was feeling particularly bored and particular resentful of his absentee father; Oliver found a particularly well-warded and obfuscated room tucked away in the Sanctum Sanctorum.  There, he found an abundance of ancient tomes, occult artifacts and arcane as well as profane objects.  Suffice to say; Oliver explored the room thoroughly.

Of all the things that he explored and examined, a briefcase (of all things) covered with runes and placed precisely inside some manner of arcane circle was what caught his attention.

Within the briefcase he found a seemingly mundane, hooded cloak, boots and a pair of high caliber pistols.

It was only a few hours later that Oliver discovered that the items once belonged to the villain known as The Hood; a villain of the era that seemingly Dr. Strange had been able to dispatch.  The boots allowed him to walk (or run on air) and the cloak allowed him to become entirely invisible.  The pistols?  Well...they were not as subtle as he liked but holding both of them at the same time did make him feel like a bad ass.

Oliver had a handful of "adventures" as he grew used to the cloak and the boots when he returned to the Sanctum Sanctorum one evening to find it under assault by a number of demons.  As it turned out; removing the items from the warded briefcase and the protective circle had alerted the previous owner and all-around terrible, ancient being; Dormammu to their existence.  Eager to possess the artifacts once more, Dormammu sent some of his very best demons to retrieve them.  While unsuccessful at finding the desired items the demons had done an exemplary job of torturing Wong, killing Jennifer Kale and ensuring that Qing was nowhere to be found.

Using minor spells as well as the pistols and his new abilities but most importantly, using his intimate knowledge of the Sanctum Sanctorum, Oliver was able to destroy a few of the demons and drive the rest of them away.  It was a day after the assault that Wong revealed to him that he was the cause of the assault.  More specifically the items he removed from the briefcase were the cause.  Oliver did not report Jennifer's death to the police, nor Qing being missing.  He really had no idea what to explain to them so after he properly saw to Jennifer's funeral rites, supported by a recovering Wong; the two of them worked together to secure the Sanctum Sanctorum with brand new wards set to keep Dormammu's minions at bay.

Oliver is motivated now to stop being so selfish (not so easy to do), find Qing and learn more from her about what happened that night as well as redeem himself for what transpired that night.

He uses the boots and cloak (and pistols if necessary) for what he deems to be..."for good”.  He can only be out of the Sanctum Sanctorum for a little more than twelve hours before Dormammu is able to locate him once more.  Oliver has been successful at trading away a few of his father’s artifacts in order to obtain some of his own.  A ring made of copper that appears to be enchanted and allows him to obfuscate his location further from Dormmamu’s scrying spells.

It’s not entirely effective however and Oliver still finds himself on the run of sorts.  It’s getting more and more difficult to leave and return to the Sanctum Sanctorum and while there is a limit to how many demons Dormmamu can have on this plane at one time; the demons are getting more clever and keen to Oliver’s tricks.
Oliver’s tricks ran out one night when he was discovered and altogether surrounded by slavering, yowling, relentless minions of Dormammu.  Oliver used an artifact that Wong had made clear to him many times to not even look at, let alone touch.  Oliver did a good deal more than touch the artifact.  In desperation, he activated it.  One moment he was, what he suspected to be spit-roasted by two particularly vigorous and vengeful demons and the next…he was clearly in an entirely new dimension.  To date; Dormammu has not been able to find him…yet.

    Relationships:
Qing – Contemporary, peer…once super-hot girlfriend, now M.I.A. and Oliver is doing everything he can (for Oliver, let’s not go crazy here) to find her.

Wong – Wong is the father he never really had.  As yet, he’s had no luck finding an analog to Wong in this new world.

Dr Stephen Strange - Oliver cannot abide the presence of his father.  While his father thinks Oliver is a fuck up (and he's not wrong), Oliver thinks that his father is a garbage human being and a worse parent.  It doesn't help that after 27 years, Oliver still doesn't know who his mother is and it helps even less that his father refuses to tell him.

Some demons here and there – They’re not ALL bad and he’s fucked a couple.  Well…they’re all actually bad, but that can be pretty fun when it comes to sex right?

An angel – He fucked one of those too.  He’s still not sure if it was a female angel or a male angel.  It’s tricky with angels…

    Personality:
    Abrasive (but he thinks he’s a tell-it-like-it-is-sort)

    Confident (some might say cock-sure)

    Funny (he thinks so)

Emotionally unavailable (he and those in his life can agree on this one)

Devoted…if you put up with him long enough.

Classic under-achiever. (But hungers for approval)

Intelligent…( but he’s sure as fuck not going to show you.)

Oliver likes being in control and very much dislikes being out of control.  Yes.  Some might describe his life as a perpetual state of out of control but…well…it’s out of control by HIS doing so…it’s fine.  Right?   Why does he want to be a hero? Well…he’s most assuredly NOT a hero but it IS nice to help people and do some good of course!  Right?  If pressed…if he HAS to be honest then…well…Dormmamu is the worst.  Like…seriously.  The worst.  Maybe being a hero will put him in the company of other heroes and that in turn will make it less likely Dormmamu will get his giant, shadow hands on Ollie and subject him to an eternity of torment?

Also…maybe…maybe once he gets a little more established someone can help him find Qing.

Sexuality: Women…but you know…sometimes when you’re in a narcotic induced infernal orgy, things get a bit more…fluid?

    Notes:

    Flaws:

    Mortality:

Oliver is a man.  A normal, possibly over-confident man.  He has no special protection.  He’s not super strong or super resilient and yet he’s super confident enough to think that he won’t wind up super dead. He’s probably super wrong.

    Hunted by Dormmamu:

Dormmamu has nothing better to do than hunt Oliver.  There’s a couple things stacked against Oliver. First; he’s the son of Dr. Stephen Strange and Dormammu hates the fuckin’ guy.  This wouldn’t be that big a deal as Dormmamu has a moderately sized list of mortals that he hates and wants to turn their lives into a living hell.  Except there’s the second thing.  Oliver has a hooded cloak and a pair of boots that belongs to Dormammu and he wants them back.  Dormmamu has sent a number of demons forth to seek out Oliver and retrieve the magical artifacts as well as Oliver so that he can be delivered to Dormmamu for an eternity of torture.  Which Oliver feels is a total dick-move on Dormmamu’s part.

    Extras

Since arriving “here” in the last year Oliver has done an passable to acceptable job of establishing ties with not just the local black market but also the “occult” black market.  If Oliver can’t get you what you’re looking for; chances are he “knows a guy.”  (Please note that “guy” might actually mean a woman…or…some genderless being from another dimension that has committed unspeakable atrocities and might have an unfathomable agenda.  Oliver can’t be held responsible for the people he knows.)

If given access; Oliver can be of use in an antiquities or arcane library.  He’s also actually not too bad when it comes to knowledge of a number of ancient occult artifacts that he probably knows how to use and MIGHT help without tearing apart reality and sending everyone to hell. No guarantees though.

Oliver is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Aramaic as well as three demonic dialects, Abyssal, Infernal and Stygian as well as Enochian (angelic)
