Virtual reality has long been a popular subject within the gaming industry, and with technology progressing at such a rapid pace, games have become more and more immersive.

In the year 2020, through the joint effort between a long known Korean gaming brand and a recently recognized American company, HONOR, Online was created. While VRMMORPG had long been a known concept, HONOR; Online was the first to fully optimize the system and create a VRMMORPG focusing on E-Sports and competition. With America being the capital of this particular E-sport, many people from all over the world soon flock with hopes of being the newest big star.

Now it has been seven years since the first server was initially launched. HONOR; Online has since become a mainstream sport, and competitive play is at its highest peak, with the professional players having been commercialized and treated like superstars.

In North America, the second most competitive HONOR region, four teams have been on everyone's lips: Team Rapid-Fire, Team Vicious, Star-Fire, and Trigger Happy Bunnies. The rivalry has been intense between the teams, and with the World Championship months away, it has become even more intense.

Who will come out on top?

So after much time and consideration, I'm throwing my hat back into the race with one of my most ambitious group games to date. I felt it was about time to pick this off the shelf which I'd been holding this idea and see how it faired out in the wild even if it's a simple interest check. This game can potentially be a rather large game. However, for the start, I would only start with two of the teams (I'm one person who knows his limitations.); though if I find people who're reliable to assist me to manage the other half, plan events, etc.

The Q&A
1.What sort of VRMMORPG is it, exactly?
I got inspiration from 'The Kings Avatar', 'Hardcore leveling Hero', and minor aspects of 'SAO'. When it comes to real-life games I was more focused on dungeons, raids, and so on like FF14.

2. How large are the teams?
The teams will be in a total of five positions. Team Leader, Tank, two DPS, and a Support. It might be subject to change, however, I'm confident it will remain at five.

3. What is HONOR Online about?
As the story portion stated it is a VRMMORPG that was created via the combined efforts of South Korea and America to have a competitive scene, however, there is more to the game I neglected to share as it for story purposes. The most I can give is there is much more to the game for the players on their off time.

This more of part two for the question but it's more fantasy-based, so you don't have to worry about someone pulling out a modern age weapon unless someone can finagle it.

4. Will the roleplay be more inside the game or about what they do IRL outside the game?

I would say it would be focused on the game, however, there will be times where the real world and how they interact does at a factor. They will be on teams so social interaction both inside and out of the game is important.

5.how do abilities and such work (both the using and selecting of, are they class-based, custom per person, etc)?

This will be one of the easier questions as I based it on the Persona Attribute explanation from 'Hardcore leveling' for those unfamiliar with what I'm referring too here's a brief explanation.

A Personal Attribute is a skill randomly given at character creation. It is an attribute given regardless of classes or tribes.

6. Is the point of the game more social, slice of life, and thus that sort of thing is handwaved or moot or is it more actual competition via the teams by some sort of system?

The point of the game is the competition. However, I don't want everyone hung up on the idea that no one interacting with each other. It would get rather dull if all you ever did was compete with one another. Also as for the system, I would think of something freeform; as I know some aren't interested in system games. My approach would have been completely different if it had been.

7. How does Team Leader equate as far as a class? They're mentioned separate but alongside things like Support, are they usually an X/Y/Z role, or are they separate from some sort of class system?

Team Leader isn't a class per say it's more of a role the person usually looked upon for guidance by their fellow teammates. So, it's not a class in the game it's just for who's in charge.

8. Are the characters we playing part of one of the mentioned teams (Team Rapid-Fire, Team Vicious, Star-Fire, and Trigger Happy Bunnies)? Which tier would they be starting at?

Yes, your characters will be apart of one of the mentioned teams. As for the tier, all characters would be Tier 2 class-type unless asked by their player to be something lower

9.Is the competition to win a PvE/world event/storyline/server first goal (and fighting primarily NPCs) or is the competition against other players PvP/Smash Brothers style? The Competiton would be a multi-part event collecting key items from various bosses, PvP, and the final event will be secret.

For the whole team leader, I see the confusion in it, and I feel want to explain what the team leader was supposed to in my head. We're used to seeing teams of four, but the team lead is a 'wild card' of sorts. The TL can be any class the character wants to create allowing their team to have a dynamic of their own. I.E. 3 DPS or 2 Tanks on the team.

10.Will the Team Leader have team passive buffs/leader skills?

I'm gonna say it would depend on the character's Attribute. AoE or singular buffs could be something they've gained. If I were to have team leads have passive buffs or skills They'd be something balanced so no team has a clear advantage in the TL department.

11. Are there non-human race options within the VRMMO?

There can be Non-Human races and I don't mind it; however; as for the idea you passed off to me it would be interesting, I would like to get a consensus from the rest if that were something they be ok with as the story is subject to change and feedback like this would create a diverse cast.

This interesting. What sort of VRMMORPG is it, exactly? Is it competitive... dungeon running? Competitive in the sense of say, League? How large are the teams? What is HONOR Online even about? Are we talking EverQuest, or more Sci-Fi MMO Call of Duty?

I'll answer your questions in order as I figured someone would want to know my intentions. So here we go let's answer these questions, shall we...

Is the point of the game more social, slice of life and thus that sort of thing is handwaved or moot, or is it more actual competition via the teams by some sort of system? Definitely some interesting thoughts going on. I'm vaguely familiar with the inspirations but not to any major degree, though am well familiar with MMOs. How does Team Leader equate as far as class? They're mentioned separate but alongside things like Support, are they usually a X/Y/Z role or are they separate entirely from some sort of class system?

What level of VR technology are we talking about here? Partial haptic sensory immersion a la the original Ready Player One or Snow Crash, or full sensory immersion VR as in SAO, Neuromancer, or, well, the ONI headsets introduced in Ready Player Two? Either could be interesting to work with, with the former possibly encouraging more real-world out of band contact.

Crackles my knuckles Alright let's get down to it....

1.How do abilities and such work (both the using and selecting of, are they class based, custom per person, etc)?

This will be one of the easier questions as I based it on the Persona Attribute explanation from 'Hardcore leveling' for those unfamiliar with what I'm referring too here's a brief explanation.

A Personal Attribute is a skill randomly given at character creation. It is an attribute given regardless of classes or tribes.

Personal Attributes

For example, magicians normally can't use bows because they are low in dexterity, but if their Personal Attribute is dexterity, it allows them to be magicians that can use bows. Another example is a character that has martial arts skill as their attribute, they can become daunting healers that fights and heals at the same time.

There are tiers to Personal Attributes

Tier 3 - Skill/Stat Type - Skill Types are granted a unique skill. Stat Type increases the players stats. Players With Skill/Stat Types can find out theirs in the beginning, when they start to fight. It's better for them to choose the class that matches their increased stats and skill.

Tier 2.5 - Monster Attribute Type - The newest Type of Personal Attribute. It allows users to have attributes of the monsters in HONOR Online. The name and tier of this type are shrouded in mystery and any information about gaining this varies from person to person.

Tier 2 - Class Type - allows players to get an extra Class but a hidden condition must be met for this to happen. The player needs to reach Level 40 to know this.

Tier 1 - Person Type - It is a type where a particular person (or object) such as a great person, a celebrity, or a hero in a myth becomes a class. This attribute allows the user to create his/her original skill. Unlike other Personal Attributes, players with Person type Personal Attributes can create their own skills. The player needs to reach Level 40 to know this. (These will be limited)

Tier 0 - Transcendental Skill Type - This is a type of Personal Attribute that Transcends the Laws of the game. Very few players have this and little is known about this type.

2.Is the point of the game more social, slice of life, and thus that sort of thing is handwaved or moot, or is it more actual competition via the teams by some sort of system?

The point of the game is the competition. However, I don't want everyone hung up on the idea that no one interacting with each other. 4. Well for simplicity I feel a full sensory immersion would be better. So there's a clear difference between your character in HONOR and outside of it.

For clarification, is Team Leader like a coach, giving orders on the side-line? Or is the Team Leader in charge of the team, but also happens to fill one of the needed group roles of tank/dps/support? You mention that there is 1 tank, 2dps, 1 support, so I'm just trying to wrap my head around what the Team Leader is doing while immersed in the game.

Thank you for answering all of our questions  :-)

This is a big wonderance of mine. If we are part of the mentioned teams, how long have we been pro players? Is this a very recent thing? Even just getting to the point we'd form up into a team seems like it would require in-depth knowledge of the story and game, as clearly we're skilled people. Unless we just started the game as a team and were like 'We'll be the best! ...Eventually.'

You've opened my eyes to the issue and if that's the case I might have the event be something that's long term. Like some overarching event/competition. It would mean all the characters would be tier 3 Skill/Stat type. I might have a vote to see when enough interest is drawn.

I could see that maybe a company decided to sponsor a new team as a publicity stunt... Like... "Use this VR tech; look how good a completely new player can be!" They pick out a very unlikely team to showcase their gear and this team gets full support to be full-time players, which could allow for juicy drama. Just an idea.

As much as I generally dislike large games, I'm tentatively interested. I just like VRMMO plots, and I can dig going the e-sports route so there's actual stakes. Gotta earn those paychecks and impress those sponsors!

I find your concept and everything you've explained so far interesting. No matter what, I'm sure we'll be flexible to the tailoring of the game as the story plays on. I have only seen two of the animes you mentioned. XD I don't mind playing the filler role for whatever team needs completion. I know when it comes to role assignment, most games get hung up on that with some people being inspired to be one role versus another. I am quite flexible. Now to add to the question pile:

Will the Team Leader have team passive buffs/leader skills?

Are there non-human race options within the VRMMO?  If so, do we select from a few options or are we allowed to go crazy with it during character creation?  :p

Btw, has anyone here seen BOFURI?

Here's an idea.  Maybe HONOR; Online recently got a super expansion pack or went through a major update that basically changed the game-play drastically.  In addition to added content, several things got nerfed and past optimized builds are now outdated.  As a result, past professional teams have to basically relearn the entire game from scratch, though they still hold some amount of advantage over others as not EVERYTHING had been changed.  This gives new teams the opportunity to rise and maybe catch up.  Maybe discover new things that weren't available before.

This would allow the VRMMORPG to have a seven year history, but allow even veteran players to explore the world and learn new things about it.  It could also be the perfect opportunity for new players (if anyone wants to create one) to jump in.  The four teams mentioned in the OP could be a mixture of old and new players, with the older players being the ones involved in the mentioned rivalry.

I am definitely interested. This is my jam right there. I'll give it a few more reads before I ask any questions I might have.

LeSane

I wanna thank everyone who's shown interest. I didn't expect anything remotely close to the attention it's got so, yet again thank you all. I'm kind of embarrassed by this. Enough about that let's get answering!

1.Will the Team Leader have team passive buffs/leader skills?

I'm gonna say it would depend on the character's Attribute. AoE or singular buffs could be something they've gained. If I were to have team leads have passive buffs or skills They'd be something balanced so no team has a clear advantage in the TL department.

2.Are there non-human race options within the VRMMO?

There can be Non-Human races and I don't mind it; however; as for the idea you passed off to me it would be interesting, I would like to get a consensus from the rest if that were something they be ok with as the story is subject to change and feedback like this would create a diverse cast.

Another random question: I don't think we'll get enough to populate all four teams fully. Do you want us spread out amongst the teams, or grouped up?

I meant as in the traditional games. Whatever character occupies the Team Leader position, they have a unique buff that passively buffs the entire team. I was asking if we would have these.

So far, you have 11 people interested, which is enough for two teams out of the four mentioned. That is if everyone is committed to actually participating in the game.

As for the consensus, I like having a variety of races in the game. As for what you do with the story, I am indifferent and have no comments to give.

It's more a question of if we don't have enough to fill those two teams, I believe they meant. IE, assuming we end up with 4 people do you want us spread between teams, or on a single one. E is notoriously fickle about moving from 'I'm expressing interest' to 'Here is my sheet'. Speaking of, how is character creation going to be handled?

As far as the story, I'm fine with having an expansion just land that sort of 'restarts' everything and we have to relearn it, also fine with us being a new up and coming team that is sponsored. The latter might be easier on people as there's not even old knowledge to necessarily know, and offer a more organic 'learning' experience. But either would work, really.

I also prefer multiple races, fwiw.

LeSane

I'd rather have you all fill one team at a time rather than spread out between them as it would stall the game in my opinion. As the character sheet being handled, I'm getting the final draft of it down, but the best of it there will be the player and the avatar of said player.

I'm fine with various races as long as it doesn't get out of hand. I don't need a bird with a Claymore dropping it on people from above. (It's happened in a DnD game I was in.)
