So, I don't have a fancy name for this idea yet but I am excited to pitch it. If nothing else it's certainly something different than the usual Militarum or space marine/deathwatch themed games.

In this game I am looking for some people willing to play as members of a genestealer cult who have decided to rise up against the false Emperor and bring the world under the enlightenment and protection of the Grandsire. The problem is that whether by impeccable timing or foul luck, the forces of chaos also choose that moment to invade the world and turn the already chaotic situation into a true and horrendous clusterfuck. The PC's will take on the roll of a kill team, undertaking a variety of assignments and doing as the situation on surface becomes ever more perilous.

For the characters themselves they will be mostly 3rd and 4th generation hybrids. Basically a neophyte squad, with all the weapons and toys there included. If there are a lot of people wanting to play acolytes (1st and 2nd generation hybrids) than i'll probably open that up too, why not. But no one will be playing purestrains, Abberations or metamorphs, really any of the truly 'mindless' or feral creatures are off limits, for what I hope are obvious reasons. I also don't want to go crazy and have everyone running around as kellermorphs and sanctus assassins. This is going to be more of a Kill team vibe, You will be playing a trusted squad which has a chance to make a name for themselves and pull off some insane feats of bravery, but still very much in the category of 'grunts'. this makes it so there is a wider array of things that can legitimately challenge the players.

Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, etc. If you want to express interest or tell me how this is the shittiest idea to ever be an idea. I look forward to hearing from everyone.

Here is a short intro I worked up for this idea that might hopefully catch people's interest.

"Tracer fire and artillery shells streaked through the pale orange sky overhead, slamming into the sides of already ruined buildings and peppering the streets with yet more rubble. A trio of goliath transports rumbled through the refuse. Pintle mounted stubbers and even mightier auto-cannons spat round after round into the the ranks of bulbous and sickly flesh surrounding them. Those enlightened neophytes who could shoot freely from the backs of these ceremite steeds did so. Adding their own las and autogun fire to the fusillade. What the misguided Imperials called 'Plague-bearers' the enlightened merely viewed as an obstacle. Where the Planetary defence forces cowered in fear or were driven insane by the machinations of chaos and the mind bending shock of coming face to face with a living daemon, the hybrid warriors of the Cult of the innerwyrm only scowled and spat their defiance at this new foe.

The lead truck was equipped with a mighty drilldozer which reduced anything solid before it into a fine dust, and anything 'living' into a finer paste. It was moving forward without difficulty until another missile streaked down from one of the buildings surrounding them and smashed into the front of the vehicle. The damage was clear and smoke was already starting to spew, but Goliath were famously durable vehicles and it powered forward, a little slower than before but otherwise unhindered. The enlightened sister operating the stubber swung the weapon towards wherever the trailing smoke indicated the source of the krak missile, when the crack of a bolter round took her head clean of her shoulders in a shower of gore, and a second krak missile slammed right into the twisted rent left by the first. This missile succeeded in bringing the lead vehicle to a sputtering halt and causing the two other trucks in the convoy to crash into each other. It quickly devolved from there, unable to keep moving the trucks were immediately overwhelmed by the daemons. The sounds of auto rifle fire sounded until the very end as plague-ridden talons and putrid blades gradually took their toll, more than one cultist dived directly into the horde after pulling every grenade pin on their belt, but the outcome was the same.

Magus Valen saw it all play out through his mind's eye. Switching from the eyes of one brood brother to the next as they were cut down or ripped apart in turn. He mourned the death of his martyred comrades while also removing them from his mind. They were dead now, they had failed and to dwell on them was to waste valuable time. But since the arrival of chaos incidents such as this had become frustratingly regular. Before chaos the local defence force had all but fallen to the uprising! The Primus's plan was a masterful one and the petty servants of the false Emperor had been overwhelmed in less than a month. Victory had been so close that even the Grandsire himself seemed to stir with anticipation.

Victory had been snatched from the claws of the Cult, the mere thought of it made the Magus's blood twist until burning ichor beat through his veins. The Primus would continue to wage a commendable war, of that the Magus had little doubt, but it was a war on two fronts. Even with the awesome power of the Grandsire and the First Ones, it was going to be a costly fight. The Primus had his duty, but the Magus had his own duty, a duty to aid the cause and bring this world once and for all under the benevolent protection of the Grandsire. He would galvanize the faithful and give his brood heroes to uphold and aspire to, and small but solid victories to give them heart, And for that he needed soldiers. Not just the strong but the cunning and the daring...

Eye of Horus

Hmm, interesting idea. How one of those hybrids thinks could be fun (and scary) to read. Just a couple of questions:

Dice based or freeform?

What kind of missions (and will there be time for “non mission” stuff too)?

Ollumhammersong

Both good questions.

I personally don't like dice systems in my forum games. When I want to play a system game i'll go find a group at my local hobby place. But I personally don't find that following a system translates well into forums. So this will be freeform.

As far as the missions, well I mentioned Kill team a couple times for good reason. It was a pretty big source of inspiration for this particular idea. Assignments for the team can range from sabotage, assassination of Imperial and chaos cult leader figures, Stealing equipment, raiding supply convoys. One thing that this will not lack for is variety of assignments. And of course the better the team performs the more high risk their future assignments might become.

As between assignments there can be opportunity for other non mission related OOC play if people want. It's also a good opportunity for 'campfire' moments. Get a new briefing, if new players want to join these would be natural points to include them and if existing players want to back out, or make new characters because previous one died during the mission, then these moments would be a perfect opportunity.
