Personality

Derrick is a very driven individual, he doesn't just desire to succeed it's a need for him. He needs to be the best at whatever he tries his hand at, and will obsess over whatever event is coming up in the attempts to make sure he succeeds at it. He can be arrogant, he can have a short fuse, and in general can be a jerk, but as soon as he realizes he is getting carried away. (Which isn't always easy for him to do). He will be the first to apologize. During the in between when he isn't obsessing over something he needs to fix about himself, Derrick shows a much softer personality. He enjoys most peope, and will often seek out someone to make a friend with or have a conversation with. While he may never truly admit it, Derrick drives himself as hard as he does, to find acceptance.

A Little Deeper

Derrick Cross was born as the first part of a rather large scandal that took a good deal of the wizarding world by surprise, and was talked about for ages. His biological mother Martha was a muggle and was initially married to his father Dennis. This marriage was brought to a end nine months into Martha's first pregnancy when she got into a car accident, though the doctors managed to save Derrick, his mother didn't survive. Two months later his half brother Daniel was born revealing that his father was having an affair behind his mother's back. Quickly after this Dennis married his new wife Amelia and moved into her home. A pure-blood family with a very low opinion of muggles. While it was probably safe to say he would always be a bastard in their eyes, the fact that he was a bastard as the result of a muggle doubled their dislike of him. Derrick grew up being told he'd never amount to anything because of his mother. Was made to be little more then a servant was constantly pushed until he could barely move and would crawl into bed. His father ignored the mistreatment grateful for the wife and two other children she had given him, and often times Derrick was left to fend for himself alone. This however began to be a driving force for Derrick, who would take all of their chores in stride, looking to work longer and harder then he did the last day. Always looking to the future, hoping and praying for the chance to get out of the mannor, to go to the JWA, to go to Hogwarts and escape his life where it was. While it would be safe to say that his step family was a terror there were pockets of love here and there to be found. His best friend being his half brother Daniel who never saw much a point to look down on him. And his biggest defending coming from his half sister Clara who grew to admire him. Clara was the one who would impusivly speak up at the worst abuse given too him. He also managed to get in touch with his biological mother's grandparents, who for a few weeks out of the year be allowed to let him stay with them. Even getting him his pet border collie when he turned ten. The first victory Derrick ever tasted was when he got the acceptance letter to the JWA. He made a point to show ever last member of his family. Proof not only was he not a squib, but he had enough potential he might be trained. His brother Daniel was also accepted that same year and together the two embarked on their first steps away from home. Derrick would go to the JWA and would waste no time getting all the information he could, studying until he fell asleep and working his absolute hardest to be a outstanding student. He needed to be considered the best so that he could turn around and rub that in his families face. It was no longer a goal it was a need, his ultimate desire was to be remembered with the likes of the greatest wizards to ever walk the world. And to let his step family forever know that they were wrong about him. He was great, and he'd have proof.

Family

fathers side Dennis Cross (father): is a half blood wizard, who is somewhat of a womanizer. Having had many affairs when he was younger it seemed he had finally settled down until Martha died and Amelia suddenly had a second son. Still since he's married Amelia he has stopped his cheating ways, or at least has gotten better at keeping it hidden. He tends to ignore the abuse his first born son endures, preferring the approval of his wife's family. Amelia Cross (Step Mother): Amelia had a crush on Dennis for quite awhile growing up, perhaps it was her tie to the wizarding world, or the fact she was a pureblood that ultimately attracted Dennis, but in the end she got what she wanted. While Amelia herself didn't really engage in the abuse towards Dennis's bastard. She never stopped it either. She'd provide the boy food and shelter if he worked for it. And that alone was a fair service she believed. Daniel Cross (Half Brother): Daniel is officially the first son of Derrick, and while not all of his family likes him, the fact that he has no muggle blood makes him the favorite. He's more or less the pampered one, not ever really getting in trouble and getting what he wants. As a result he's developed into something the exact opposite of his older brother. Lazy, womanizing, and easily distracted from his goals. Still the two brothers are best friends, and Derrick would come to his defense in a second's notice. Clara Cross (Half Sister): Clara could be the favorite, she is as smart and driven as her half brother, and as easy to get along with as her full blood brother. The trouble she endures is that she admires Derrick. This has given her a fairly bad reputation of being a "muggle lover" by about half of her family. She shrugs it off, taking her punishment when she defends Derrick, and bouncing back without a moments notice to stop them when their abuse crosses the line. Clara loves her oldest brother and her brother returns that love two fold. Mariella and Petrus Rickard (Step Grandparents): Perhaps the only people in the world that hate his exsistence more then his step mother. They are at the very least on equal footing with her on their disapproval of him. Taking any chance they can to remind him how unworthy he is to be living in the home that he is, and reminding him how much better his siblings are then him becuase they are Rickards.

mothers side Martha Cross (Biological Mother): Martha was a muggle who happened to be beautiful enough to catch the eye of Derrick's father Dennis. The two were happily married for a year when Martha revealed she was pregnant. There wouldn't be a happy ending saddly, as she was killed in a car accident near the end of her labor. Still she was survived by her baby boy who the doctors managed to save. Barry Weston (Biological Uncle): Barry is Martha's twin brother, and Derrick's biological uncle. Despite missing the first eight years of his nephew's life it was Barry who ended up finding him and giving his nephew the few breaks he got. Barry is kind and funloving, and tries to be around when Derrick visits his grandparents. Rose and Mickey Weston(Biological Grandparents): Rose and Mickey were Martha's parents and Derrick's grandparents. They never knew that their daughter's infant had survived or most of the scandal that followed thereafter. It was eight years before Barry found Derrick and brought him back for a couple weeks out of the year, but they see all of Martha's best traits in her son, and they love him all the more for it. They are horrified by the stories Derrick tells them, and do their best to pamper him when he's there. While they usually believe spoiling a child is a bad thing, in Derrick's case a few weeks of being spoiled before going back to hell won't make him soft.
