Junior Wizarding Academy
The SchoolThe Ministry of Magic under the control of Vincent Proudmane as Minister, changed the education system of students in Britain, Scotland, Wales and Ireland in the year 2000. All students at the age of eleven would no longer attend school at Hogwarts but would attend a junior academy within the Ministry, known simply as the Junior Wizarding Academy. They would study the intricacies of magic, the consequences and laws pertaining to it; it's vast history both fantastical and horrendous. The intention was to instill a respect for magic within students at any early age and only when deemed older, wiser and well prepared, would they then sit their OWLs in their sixth and final year. Unlike at Hogwarts, no familiars were necessary, no cauldrons or other expensive equipment. A uniform, quills, parchments and books were all the students were expected to bring. At the school itself, under the watchful eye of possibly the greatest duelist alive, Filius Flitwick, students were issued with a standard #2 training wand. This wand issued by the Ministry had extreme limited function, were school owned which meant charms were in place so that no student could steal them from the classroom; they could only cast basic spells in a safe and controlled environment. At the JWA, there are no house distinctions. Students Do Not Board as they do at Hogwarts, it is a day school. They arrive in the morning at 8:30am to begin school at 9:00am. School finishes at 3:30pm. Each year has a class prefect that meets weekly as the student council. The JWA is situated on the first floor of the Ministry of Magic. Students arrive by floo network to the Atrium and then take a lift to the first floor. They return home the same way. Muggleborn students are collected by a ministry 'transporter' and returned after school via the floo network. By senior year, all muggleborn students are given enough floo powder per term to arrive and return home. |

Minerva McGonagall, once the headmistress of Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry, took over the running of the school while Hogwarts itself was closed for reconstruction. When Hogwarts did open again, she preferred to remain at the JWA, feeling the younger minds would benefit from her wisdom more. On the wall in her office is a portrait of Dumbledore, identical to the one in the headmistresses office in Hogwarts.
