A quick primer for the new On / Offs
« on: March 15, 2010, 04:29:54 AM »
Hey all,

I noticed some questions about the changed On/Offs system so I thought I'd provide a guide with some brief outlines of things.  If you have any other questions, post them here and I'll answer them in this first post.

First of all - You can mouse over most things for descriptions.

Secondly - The sexual nature and attraction grids are for your characters not for yourself.  When you are selecting options in there, make sure you are selecting characters you are happy to portray as that is what people are going to be searching for.

Definitions

Some quick terms -

Asexual - no sexual attraction
Intersexed - Individuals with a mix of both male and female anatomy.

Grids

The grids to the left are an example of some selections.

The person who had these options would be happy to play characters with the following characteristics :

Sexual Nature
Males who are Dominant
Females who are Switch or Submissive
Neuters who are Submissive
Intersexed who are Submissive
Transgender who are Switch
and Other character types who aren't Dominant or Submissive.

Attracted To
Males who are attracted to Males
Females who are attracted to Males
Neuters who are Asexual
Intersexed who are attracted to Intersexed
Transgender who are attracted to Males, Females and Intersexed.

The lower blue through black selections are things that you are interested in in a roleplay.  I've selected the Genres group as an example.

From Left to Right, Blue to Black, the five options are -

Like
Try
No Opinion
Dislike
Never

So, in this example,

Fantasy, Romance and Science Fiction are 'Like'
Tragedy, Mystery, Horror and Adventure are 'Try'
and Action & Comedy are 'No Opinion'

No 'Dislike' or 'Never' options are selected.

Please feel free to ask any questions or let me know if something isn't clear.

I have the idea that the 'Attracted to' part can be seen in two ways. (Using above grid choices for this)
1. The player in question is attracted to Males who are attracted to Males (and so on)
2. The player in question likes playing a Male who is attracted to Males (and so on)

...which is not the same thing, of course. Clarification, please ^^;; Which is meant here?

It is 'The player will play characters who are Males attracted to Males' (and so on...)'

The O/Os are meant to reflect preferences in roleplaying and characters not actual real life member preferences (which may be linked but not necessarily).

Thank you! I was a bit uncertain about it. :)

That, I got. ;)

*Brain implodes.* >.<

I kind of came to understand it more in looking at it and making sense out of it from fiddling with the O&Os, but when it is explained my head just jumbles up. *Chuckles.

Any ways, I always noticed that things listed in No Opinion never show up in the list; I am curious of why is that? Would it be better if they were listed as well, maybe some people may be curious on others 'No Opinions' and may try to see if they can get a said opinion out from that user through means of RP?

I know personally sometimes opinions on matters in writing change over time and now and then I am curious towards others 'no opinion' list, but maybe I am just being nosy. ;P

You can infer from process of elimination that everything NOT listed is in the No Opinion category, since the other four will be visible.

This was likely for brevity, to reduce the total length of the profile and render it easier to eyeball things. If most people leave a lot of stiff N O, they'd be much larger otherwise.

Plus, No Opinion may just mean they haven't gotten around to starting or finishing it.
