Hey there folks, thanks for taking the time to pop by and look at this! I am new here and trying to get my feet wet so I was thinking of a fun roleplay that can be short, but has good potential to be long-term if people enjoy that!

Traveling!
So, what I am wanting to do is play a young shepherd that is having to move his flock from his small village to the large capital in order to sell them off to help the family back home. I want the world to be a fantasy world. How 'typical' that is can be discussed in detail between me and my partner.

I am thinking there is come calamity at home. I think he lives with his mom, or older sister. Some half broken home to where they need to do something drastic to get the coin needed to fix the home, or pay for medicine. The trop of 'someone is sick' is old, but it works to get people OUT of their comfort zone.

The market in the village is over saturated so he has to go out on this trip to sell the herd at the capital where his family has some connections and they can make the most gold out of it.

My preferred partner would be playing a guide. My character is a bit inexperienced with such a long trip and will hire them out to guide and protect. The sort of ranger/bodyguard or guide type. I think it could be fun if it was the rough and tumble type, OR is they were also woefully inexperienced but able to talk a good game and get paid to go on the trip.

I think that during their travels they could meet all sorts of interesting character, both good and bad, drama and excitement would ensue! Lots of opportunities for combat, romance, and general adventure!

Now I am the forever GM in real life, and I enjoy making out fleshed out worlds with my players/partners. With luck I am hoping we could sort of co-gm the game and bring fun interesting characters and scenarios to deal with on our travels. Meet plenty of people to do whatever with!

The World

So, the only thing I have set in stone with the world, is that it is Low Magic. I want there to be magic, but I want it to be rare, if it was way too common then we could simply 'magic away' our problems. With the magic in the world I want it to be rare, mysterious, and dangerous. Think like the Witcher. It is not something that is very well understood and there is risk even to the caster from time to time.

I would like the world to have a 'tinge' of realism/darkness. I want monsters to be scary, and for the threat of them to be real. Perhaps it is just dealing with the problem of 5e DnD where people no longer approach monsters with much fear. Even in my games were I try to balance it as much as possible, the threat does not feel real. I like it when characters actually fear the things that go bump in the night!

Though overall I think the game should be fun and light hearted! I just want people to respect the threat of danger, if that makes sense!

Other details, like climate, and races in the world can be discussed more with my partner, as I think some of that is up to preference and what people want to play. As for myself, I think I will be boring and stuck with human.
The love of the mundane
With so many high fantasy stories with epic heroes, I have a strange soft spot for the little guy! I love the idea of a blacksmith who wants revenge and becomes a guard, or the baker who learns to become a thief. The small stories where the BBEG might be the local sheriff, or a corrupt mayor, or a leader of a gang.

To me, it is more interesting to start small and have those humble origins. I dont think every story needs to be 'Epic' and the heroes beyond reproach. I love characters with depth and flaws! Given some of the threads I have read around here, I am impressed with the depth people give their characters. I might just be asking for something that is common, but again coming from mostly table top games, I do not always have the luxury of people who put more thought into their characters beyond how much damage they can do or what spells they can cast.

Thank you all who took the time to read! I hope to hear from someone and see what I can get rolling. Feel free to PM me, or post here! As I am new I am always welcome to some constructive criticism. Who knows if there is any interest it might be something fun to GM at some point.
