Saints Row Rewired

In another world, the excess of the Saints, and the Bravado of Johnny Gat would provoke Zinyak and the rest of the Zin Empire to invade and subsequently destroy Planet Earth. In this world in 2014, Johnny Gat isn't captured by aliens, and Playa, Shaundi, and Mayor Burt Reynolds all die at the top of the Magarac Statue, leading the Saints to be branded as terrorists. Over the next 5 years, Ultor declines as Saints fall in disfavor, and their various IPs and ventures decline in value.

By 2021, The saints set foot in a Santo Ileso where there is no MDI, The Idols have merged with Deckers in pursuit of Matt Miller, and renamed themselves Ravers, the Dustlanders are a much more "Full Contact" LARP, the Silver Gulch Wild West Experience Crew is a front, the Panteros are holding strong, and Aztec Gold has drawn the attentions of STAG and Darkstar, a gang formed of the remnants of Morningstar and the failing Ultor. So basically 4 and Agents of Mayhem didn't happen at all, and that after the events of 3, the group ended up fleeing from Steelport to Santo Ileso where the criminal organizations are different and none of the reboot main cast made themselves noteworthy. That's where this group steps in. Playing all of those games will help players get a grasp of this game's world at least inasmuch as they can pick out similarities and differences. Also many of the IPs from 3 on are functionally in world media content (movies, TV shows, etc).

Required Media
This game requires the use of my my Crime and Chaos Remix and Unofficial Saints Row Campaign Setting as well as the understanding that both documents are "WIP" and will occasionally have parts that trail off, refer to older rules that no longer exist, or otherwise don't make sense. Please bring these to my attention. Some of them will be addressed some may not, depending my needs at the moment. Save these documents and run them in something besides dropbox, I made bookmarks for everything that apparently don't show in dropbox.

Optional Media
As noted, the events up to Saints Row 3 happened, and 3 went down differently The game assumes most of the events up to Saints Row 3 happened, but Gat's Death and the events at Magarac Tower went down differently, resulting in no particular need for Cyrus Temple to try to nuke the US, no possibility of the Playa becoming President, and no particular need for Zinyak to take interest, The details are in my Unofficial Setting document. My discord (linked in my sig) contains the documents, but it has the advantage of being able to talk through character creation. Speaking of which...

In addition to the usual character creation of Crime and Chaos Remix, you will need to consider the following in character details:

• What is your character's name and how old are they at the start of the game, considering that the events of Saints Row 3 happened 6 years prior?
• Bearing in mind that you are an OC, not a Canon Character in the Saints Row Universe, you most likely knew a Canon Character in passing  (and can even buy them as connections if you spend advantage points on it). How did you know them?
• Where were you when Playa died on the Magarac Statue? What went through your head? How did things work out for you between your organization being called terrorists, and your escape from Steelport?
• Imagine that you were called for back up on an event that occurred in a previous game. What happened from your perspective in the event you were called for backup on?
• Do you have a particular kind of diversion, criminal activity, or venture you are particulary interested in?
• At the beginning of the game, the Saints haven't acquired the church yet. Do you have living arrangements yet? If so where? (note that since the original cast of the reboot video game won't play a significant part in the game, you should not live in their building.)
• If you have Conflicted Loyalties, please explain how you have flown under the radar so far. And even if you don't, why should the Saints trust you?

Ideally I hope for a Big Group due to the amount of locations, activities, diversions, etc involved. That being said I'll take as low as 3 other players. I will post an example character sheet in a subsequent post

So geeky question about mechanics, Steel- I'm working my way through the system, and have a character in mind: an Asian party girl cut off by her wealthy parents after she got arrested AGAIN, who now has to scuffle or starve.

If I want her to be 

1) Lazy- she's a princess, used to having shit handed to her

and

2) have an Attitude Problem related to racism

 how would those interact? Would her berzerker state just be at a hellacious disadvantage?

(also considering Selfish/egomaniac in place of this)

Well, Laziness strictly refers to the TN of physical tasks that are "too hard" for your unmotivated ass.  Attitude problem refers to an emotional influence roll, which when fails requires attacks and movements "toward the source". Some of those attacks will be using the stats for Laziness, but the TNs will only stop you from hitting your targets directly, not lashing out. After all, it's TN 0 to hit nothing in that general direction. Also lazy people lash out all the time, and even if you successfully Influence yourself, you can still verbally lash out. But that's a roleplay decision.

You could justify Laziness allowing you to make the Influence rolls after you already failed if your laziness is a factor in you not being able to hit anything, or moving toward the target for too long, or fast enough to Lose Endurance e.g. if you sprinted toward the target, that could wind you enough for you to think twice. But you'd still be making the Influence roll from Attitude Problem. Also:

I'm still undecided on a character at the moment. Currently leaning in the direction of either a driver or a brawler at the moment. Haven't had a chance to really dig super deep into the rules and such.

Saints row huh? It's been a while since I've seriously played those. And I seem to be in the minority for liking the reboot.   Granted I got distracted probably half way through the game and that was after getting distracted by dustlander antics so...

I liked it too. Got what I paid for day 1, kept at it the whole time. I immediately recognized the validity of an entire staff of spectrumy writers being enough on it myself to identify with some of the problems they have that don't really seem all that gangstery. They felt like more or less real people who happen to take very little seriously, including capital crimes. The fact that I used the voice of Misty probably worked in my favor.

And yet...

I couldn't help but have some ideas for a story that was a little less off the rails while acknowledging the whole of the fandom (that I'm aware of, which 1, 2, 3 with all the DLC, 4 with all the DLC, Gat, Agents of Mayhem, and reboot with all the DLC). This setting assumes 3 ended in a way where its DLC, 4, its DLC, Gat, and Agents are all media ventures that failed as a result of the Saints being branded Terrorists but they are there.

And Reboot? It's mostly there for the landmarks. The map is wonderful. Many of the landmarks will remain canon, but I would like some level of collaboration on unspecified map points.

Honestly the LARP both before and after the GoT stuff, was among my favorite parts of the game. I used to also LARP, and the only thing missing was calling out damage values, which I totally get. I do have deep appreciation for the fact that even MDI and cops will pretend to be dead when you kill them with LARP weapons and doing so will reduce or eliminate respective wanted levels. Just like yeah, let's completely ignore this criminal that pretended to kill us.

Thinking I might try to combine my two ideas. A driver that likes a bit of fighting when she isn't racing around in her ride. I figure she does some fighting on the side to have more income to tune up her car. She wouldn't be great inside or outside of her car but she'd be fairly good at both.

Still not one hundred percent settled on an idea and if you think it would be better to just focus on one or the other then I'll have to decide between the two based on what else we have at the time.

Personally I like the first three games, haven't played the newest one so I can't say whether I liked it or not.

Got 4 or 5 plays under my belt. I am actually kind of sad I can't recreate (or find through the disabled Sharing) Kinzie. I thought about doing that for her NPC image. Might have to do another playthrough.
