Biden comes to the job with eight years of experience at being the Commander's Number One which is a hell of a lot more that a spoiled brat had four years ago.

He may be old but that gives him what he knows to do the job.  He's been watching the deterioration going on over the last four years and has not been sitting on his bum waiting for today.  Even before he won the election he was making plans, doing research and talking to the experts about what needed to be done.  This isn't a game to him.  It is serious and intense.

He will never be a fly-by-night with a bad hairdo running around making a fool of himself.

I'm not an American, but before the current Unpleasantness I spent a lot of time there due to work. I have plenty of American friends and contacts and colleagues.
So I know that it's in many ways not my business - I know that when people from outside the UK take a point of view on our politics I tend to think: "yeah, but you don't have to live with it, butt out."
But major powers are important internationally. We know that that's true of Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, and it's doubly true of the president of the US. That person can set a tone for the way that the world conducts its affairs. And by God this has been the worst four years I can remember (and I'm getting on now. I remember Carter and Ford). I remember when we thought Reagan was the greatest threat to world peace we had ever seen, or when Dubya was the pawn of neocons who didn't understand how the world worked and just wanted to stomp around planting flags. But Trump is something I never thought I would see in my lifetime - an actual threat to US democracy itself. That shit is scary. Don't do it again, I beg you.
From where I sit, Biden looks like a geriatric with too much on his plate, and probably not enough levers to do what he hopes to. But he's a normal, functioning chief executive, and by God that'll do for now.
Stay safe, and we're glad you're back.

Unlike the last guy, Biden isn't afraid to let someone else do the work and for them to get the credit for it.

Joe Biden was hiding almost throughout the entire election race because he would constantly fuck up in public and he's also been in politics for 47 years and throughout that entire time, he has done nothing but bad shit like the 1994 crime bill that has and still does affect Black Americans to this day and he had voted for the Iraq War and he had constantly advocated for cutting Social Security and he have said constantly that if an executive order for Medicare for All were to land on his desk, he will reject it, just to name a few off the top of my head.

So, you're saying that rejoining the Paris Accord is bad?  That rejoining the World Health Organization is bad?  That cancelling the Keystone XL Pipeline is bad?  Cancelling the 1776 Commission is bad?

This is what he has done on literally his first day in office.

Re-read the site rules. Partiularly #2.

Aiden is obviously referring to the ICE camps where children are being held in horrible conditions. Regardless of a person's feelings on immigration (legal or illegal), children being detained in conditions like the ones in most ICE facilities is barbaric. Even a government investigation obviously stated that ICE detainees get fed spoiled food, are kept in dirty conditions, kept overcrowded, are denied basic goods needed for hygiene so they don't get ill.

Unlike other websites that are a bit more free-for-all when it comes to politics sections, our site tends to have a higher standard of decorum expected here.

Your post is not civil. It's not the first rude post you've made. I'd advise changing your approach if you expect to retain posting access to the politics board here.

Cite your source for this claim, as per this policy.

I didn't make a claim: I merely asked a question.

Who built the cages, Joe?

Also: Nice subtle passive-aggressiveness! I totally did not notice it! Totally not, dude! Totally not!

Beguile's Mistress

Every time I hear someone make fun of Joe Biden for his speech I want to scream.  I know the problem because I have the same one.  I deal with a speech impediment.  I stutter when I try to get words out when I'm excited in some way.  I recognize the signs.

Making fun of him is as bad as Trump making fun of and mocking the reporter with a disability who tried to question him.

This is not who we are.  We should be better than that.

People won't make fun of Biden's poor mental capacity if people don't make fun of Trump's poor mental capacity.

Saying someone is passive-aggressive does not make them so.

You did not cite a source for your claim disguised as a rhetorical question.

On, uhm, less tense note...

I was watching snippets of the inauguration yesterday, including Biden's walk to the White House and I have to ask:

All these women in colourful, long, billowing coats. New fashion trends among the American political elite? ;)

As for Biden's first decisions: some huge relief there. Finally some of the damage Trump did is getting fixed. I still can't believe he had the US remove itself from the Paris accord and the WHO...

It was a total horrorshow. I remember in their first face to face debate Biden called Trump "unpresidential" and I think that is a perfect description. There are norms and expected standards of behaviour on the international scene and in international politics and Trump either just didn't get them or refused to follow them and that was a disaster for America's standing on the international stage.

I began to really and truly loathe Trump on the day he was in Britain on a state visit and walked in front of the Queen. To many Americans (not those here I expect) that didn't seem to mean anything and I read some online comments even applauding him but to Europeans whose cultures come associated with the baggage of 1,000 or more years of various monarchies, some good, some bad, some enlightened, some incompetent, but all of which enjoy the concepts of simple respect and decorum, it was a terrific insult.

For me as a European one thing Biden brings back to the international stage is that aspect of decent proper behaviour. You know where you are with Biden. You can deal with him and his ambassadors and his team's different departments and acknowledge that a certain level of decent behaviour is going to be reciprocated. You may not agree with him but you know you can at least engage meaningfully. That may sound simple but it is the foundation on which international relations build. Trump and his departments were a joke (literally) and dealing with him and them was almost impossible.

While Biden was giving his inaugural speech a man in police uniform was seen kneeling alone at Beau Biden's grave. Apparently the person who tweeted this took the photograph. I can't say any more about its authenticity however.

The Lovely Tsaritsa

I read, US Senator Cruz, says Biden joining again the Paris Accords, means Mr Biden cares more for Paris, then US.

Senator Cruz is very stupid, if he thinks this.

Ted Cruz is very stupid, yes. This is only one of many ways he has shown it.

Senator Ted Cruz does not think this. He is pandering to his base. He no more thinks that the Paris Accord reflects the views of the citizens of Paris than he thinks that the Geneva Convention reflects the views of the citizens of Geneva.

I would also like to remember that great joke in Yiddish. The definition of Chutzpah is murdering your parents and then asking the court for mercy because you're an orphan. Senator Cruz, just a few short weeks ago, voted to silence the voters of Pittsburgh and the rest of Pennsylvania when he joined his pandering, pondscum challenge of their electoral votes. The chutzpah on the man.

If you remember the 'Lawnmower Kid' meme, there's one with Biden inviting him inside for a glass of lemonade.  Not posting here because child, and I'd have to sort through three million Twitter posts to find the link.

On another light note, Scottish brewery Brewdog, who do have a knack for publicity, have launched an online petition for a Scottish airport to be renamed in Joe Biden's honour.

This happens to be Prestwick Airport which Donald Trump uses when visiting his Turnberry golf course.
